Assignment #3 – Are Internet Memes Art?

Memes are Art!

I view memes as a form of expression. A way to communicate your thoughts and feelings through pictures and words. They pretty much cover what it says in our following definition.

Britannica defines art as “a visual object or experience consciously created through an expression of skill or imagination.”

That’s got to tell you something about what is considered Art. Although the definition is not quite specific, it does tell us that art is a form of expressive imagination!

Here are some other definitions of Art:

Are Memes Art? Hmmmm

Absolutely, memes are indeed art. Memes are a way

for the person to truly express themselves and show there creativity

towards a certain topic and it is here to stay!

Now besides Among Us here is a classic meme!

Assignment #3: Are Internet Memes Art?

Memes are such an important aspect of the internet that it’s safe to assume it is more than just art; it is a culture.

When most people think of memes, they think of something funny, and with good reason too. Users of instant messaging apps like Facebook Messenger tend to use memes in the form of images or gifs to create an emphasized message that is usually hilarious and a bit outrageous, like a bunny with a humanlike smile to show how happy they are (this gif made me laugh quite a bit.)

However, you can use memes to show other emotions besides happiness.

What’s also great about memes is they introduce people to new topics and genres! An old but great meme that is still remembered today is the “Rick Roll”. It was a meme that was created around the time when Youtube first came out, and the main idea of it was to trick users into clicking on a video, then showing Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley.

I was introduced to Rick Astley through the Rick Roll meme, and I still listen to his music even today.

I think my favorite part about memes is the massive variety that is available. Websites like Imgur and GIPHY  provide new memes to the internet everyday, and they let you know which ones are trending. In my opinion, the most hilarious memes are the ones you can relate to the most.

Whether it be my sad bank account balance,

Laying in my bed and having trouble sleeping,

Last minute panic from trying to do a ten page paper in one night,

Or even trying to stay healthy during the school semester, all these memes, in one sense, are a funny but are also somewhat accurate portrayal of how I feel about certain things. It’s come to a point where memes are not just an “activity” I take part in, but rather, a method of self expression.

What’s awesome about memes is although most people simply just view them, we can ALL make our own memes! Using Make a Meme, I was able to make some pretty cool ones about CT101.

I’m really loving this class so far, but I just realized something…

Assignment #3 – Meme Art

For starters, let me just state for the record that I LOVE MEMES. I believe MEMEs are ART.

MEMEs can hurt and help at the same time. Some may feel certain MEMEs are inappropriate and bad but OVERALL MEMEs are a GOOD.

MEMEs are excellent for communicating and self-expression. Many people are misunderstood through text because there are no visual signs like body language or facial expression being seen nor is tone being heard like in voice when you are over the phone.

MEMEs are a way to communicate, for self expression, for entertainment and marketing purposes. (Probably used for many other reasons who knows)

Personally I use MEMEs along with GIFs to communicate better sometimes. Or even express myself for time to time if they are relatable.

Are memes ART?!

Are internet memes a form of Art?

Of coarse!

Just like ART, it’s a form that allows people to express themselves creatively.

Meme: an element of a culture or system of behavior… https://www.google.com/search?q=what+is+a+meme&oq=what+is+a+meme+&aqs=chrome..69i57j0l7.6499j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Now, what is culture? Well, its definitely an art!

ART: the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination…

This all adds up! It proves that memes can be considered a form of ART.

I believe that memes are good for communication because it gives us a better picture of what one is expressing. Just texting isn’t enough. Memes can also allow someone to relate more. For example, lets ask ourselves, how many times have we said, “this is true” or have laughed  about memes because you connected something with it. You see!

Many times we don’t want to talk, instead we just want to send a picture that shows how we feel at that moment.

Thanks to memes, we can do that!

Like this! This was me when we started CT101.

Another example is when someone says that CT101 class is a chill class. Just saying that is not enough to express what you think.

You have to see the picture to get the full idea. Just like Art pieces, some artists draw to express themselves better.

Assignment #2 Gifts

First day feelings were all over the place, being that I should of taken this class first instead of level 300 CT classes. I began to feel overwhelmed.

I love to learn and explore new content but, I was also very nervous being that this was brand new to me. Im always up for a challenge to see how far can push myself to learn and adjust to new things.

I honestly like this class much better than my other classes, being that its more hands on egging content. Where as in my other classes I have to teach myself, I feel like the student and the teacher.
As the weeks are going by Im feeling more relived because the class is not as bad as I thought it would be its very clear to learn and understand.
I am curious to learn all the basics of CT in order to better myself in further classes that I have to finish taking for my ct minor.

Assignment #2 GIFS

Before I understood what was going on in this class- I automatically put all my five classes in the same category. HARD. Already dealing with classes online made my brain hurt so I just prepared for the worst to come. But the professor was able to make the class welcoming and gave more of a description of what we would really be doing this semester- instantly I was relieved.

This is exactly how I was holding my coffee once the professor began explaining and saying the words, “This will be a fun course.”

Logging into my other classes make me dreadful and sometimes make me wish I never had to participate. Its the slightly the same thing with all of them- lecturing for 2 hours and giving out assignments under “Course Materials”

Hearing the same thing repeatedly throughout the weak can drive someone insane- this GIF represents my actions whenever I hear another professor doing the attendance

But this class motivates me to do more. Who would have known I would be in a class that is actually interesting ! Writing, reading, and even completing task is a new adventure.

Cant wait to see whats to come and how I have transformed into someone who can work my way online !

My daily thoughts process using Gifs

So like most Gifs come in handy when you have everything to say but you don’t exactly know how to say it. I find that with being in college and working full time, I experience at least 10 emotions throughout the day.

I am the type of person that turns off their alarms and says “5 more minuets” then I’m late.

Having a job is sooooooooo not fun

What I really want to say:

What I really say:

And of course my happiness is coming home:

But for some odd reason I decided to take an evening class, not just any class STATISTICS….

Although my day is usually uneventful, my nights are always my favorite part.

Assignment # 1 Internet Happiness

One thing that makes me happy is cars. To be specific i love woking on em from doing a regular maintence change to hooking up the car with a crazy exhaust system or even doing a sick custom music build

Outside of school beside on doing my assigments for all my classes and doing my hw and prepping for quizzes and tests. I’ll always be working on my car to the point where my parents think I have an addiction because for any reason i find an excuse to go do something to car from washing it to putting on a sick decal to make it look cool

Assignment #2

So far this course has been really exciting, it has filled up my expectations for this course and has been really motivating. this course has made me look forward to learning more about what this is really about. It is still kind of confusing but it is fun to be in this class.

Assignment #1- Internet happiness

Hello Everyone! Yea, I’m a bit late because I was having difficulties posting on this site, but today I’m going to be talking about what on the internet makes me happy.

One thing that makes me happy is Video games.

For as long as I can remember, I have been obsessed with video games.
I would sit down not only play games but also keep up with any game-related news on websites like IGN, watch YouTubers like PewDiePie, and play online with friends.

But I put the games on pause while I get my life together. I had gotten an office job, starting going to school full time, and planning for the future.

Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, I lost my job, haven’t seen any of my friends(in person at least), and have just been incredibly bored.
But now that I have a lot of free time on my hands, I found myself going back to games.

As soon as quarantine is over with and it’s safe to go back to work, I will be abandoning the games, but for now, it’s cool because I got to go back to what I enjoyed most.
As for COVID-19, I hope everyone stays safe and pulls through this pandemic.

Also, to anyone reading this, if you own a Gaming PC and would like to play online with me, add me on Steam.

This me 10 minutes before my first CT-101 class.

… Get my morning Coffee.

This is me 10 minutes after first CT-101 class.

When I learned what we were actually going to be doing in this course. It was like breath of fresh air.

We live in the digital age and since we’re  going to be stuck at home taking classes again…

Yup me too…

It would be great to not only become more technologically literate but to have our own platform where we can share our experiences  with one another.

Also, I think we can all benefit from some humor.  Some of the content that has already been post is not only fascinating but hilarious, so kudos to all of you. I really enjoy reading each post.

On a different note,

Don’t attack me but … I think Gif should be pronounce JIF.

Only because Gif to me it too close to GIFT and when I hear someone say it, it makes think of presents. JIF even though it’s a brand of peanut butter,  my brain doesn’t confuse the two thing. So fight me.

This class is awesome though. Unlike my other courses I feel that I have  complete freedom to express myself. To be honest,  I feel awkward turning  my camera on in classes. I don’t know, there is just something about it that make feel self conscious and exposed.

Homer gets what I mean.

This class has so far inspired me to become more creative in ways I didn’t think of before.

But unlike my other classes where we need to spend an arm and a leg for books. Our text book is the internet and as we all know…

I hope everyone has a great Sunday and if your football fan you should check out Mr. Chiseled Adonis (Warning: Strong Language) for some hilarious highlight commentary .  See ya’ll next class.

Assignment #2- Gifs

Before attending my first CT 101 class, I had already mentally prepared myself to be drowning in the rigorous workload that is often seen in college courses.

On the contrary, I was pleasantly surprised by the relaxed environment. The professor seemed genuinely excited to teach the course which changed my perspective about the class. Sometimes, when professors portray a certain attitude towards students it affects the energy of the class. Hence, it was a nice change in scenery.

Furthermore,  the assignments offer students the use of creative freedom to display our ideas, emotions, and thoughts within our assignments. I was intrigued by the idea of writing blogs instead of answering textbook discussion questions. I felt confident with the ability to learn about the lessons rather than cramming facts into my head for tests.  As a marketing major, this was indeed a different world.

Compared to my other courses, CT 101 is a hands-on course where we review our work with our peers and create blogs that are related to the skills we are taught in the previous class.  In addition, I expect to learn about different outlets on the internet, For example, GIF’s and how to create these features, we often see on the internet.

As a senior, this is the perfect way to end a chapter with some creativity. Although I graduate in Spring 2021. But you get the idea.
