Here we are: CT101 – Digital Storytelling! The Spring Semester of 2024!

Ok, this blog post is a lot things, but first and foremost it’s a welcoming! Im excited to meet everyone and share our 1st class session to connect and learn about each other. I hope that you like animated GIFS, we are going use a lot of them here, and make them too! We are going to spend a lot of time discussing ways that we communicate.  

There is a myriad of compelling content to cover this semester in CT101, which will happen in many fun ways! **This is the direct URL / Link to our class Website – https://ct101.commons.gc.cuny.edu/ <—that link is where EVERYTHING is happening for CT101. I’m not a fan of blackboard (who is?? Its outdated and clunky..) and I will only use it to remind the class about password sensitive things or send a class e-mail. Please make sure you are familiar with the CUNY academic calendar for the semester as we will follow that..

The CT101 Class Modality / Structure – CT101 will be taught synchronously in person this semester on campus here in the lab on the 4th floor in room 4m03 (academic core building) – we will also have course work that will be assigned and completed outside of class.

Please know, I am always here to help you be the best that you can be in our course. And we are all here to do the same for each other. Our class is a community! A big part of our class is exploring your creativity and being experimental with the Internet! Plus, we will learn about the evolving array of digital tools that are available to us. We do quite a bit of the creative work from our own personal work spaces as we integrate the class work into our lives. Please know, I will always screen-record each and every assignment’s description, how-to’s and tutorials and share those videos here on our website. Please think of this website as a repository of information, energy and inspiration for the course (and beyond!)

  1. Hi my name is Justin Torres, I am an upper junior and my major is Communication Technology (CT)!
    I don’t have a favorite movie but my activities I usually play video games on my free time, go outside to venture out in the city (only in warm weather), favorite ice cream flavor would have to be chocolate, vanilla and strawberry (unless they have unique flavors of ice cream). Favorite apps is usually YouTube since i don’t watch TV like i used back then and I’m interested to learn about this class, hopefully relearning codes and images because i did coding back in high school, 4 years straight. Feel free to get to know more about me and ask questions everyone! 😀

    2. Hey Justin, nice to meet you. Vanilla and Strawberry are some great ice cream flavors, but I cannot support your decision to write chocolate. I also find myself on YouTube as a replacement for tv, that and Netflix. What type of video games do you play because I also used to play some, however, my free time for it has been limited.

  2. Hello, my name is Terrell Springer, and I am a senior who is majoring in Music. It’s hard to name a favorite movie, but I liked Kung Fu Panda 1 and 2, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Avengers 1 to 3. My favorite activity would be playing music and listening to songs for things that sound cool. My favorite ice cream is cookies and cream, and strawberry shortcake. I don’t have a favorite app, but my most used app is YouTube. What I am most interested in at the moment is listening to music with for things I like in order to imitate them on the instrument I play, piano. As of right now, I am trying to imitate some cool basslines I hear.

  3. Hi everyone! My name is Rehaana Mohamed and I am an upper junior that is majoring in Psychology. I have so many favorite movies but if I had to choose one, I would probably say Enchanted because it was my favorite movie growing up. My favorite activities include playing video games, watching TV, going out shopping, painting, and doing makeup! Back in high school I took a few art courses, such as computer graphics, ceramics, and advanced painting, so I have been exposed to quite a few mediums of art. My favorite ice cream flavor would have to be chocolate chip cookie dough and vanilla, though I do like all flavors. My favorite app is probably YouTube and TikTok (as much as I don’t want to admit it). At the moment, my favorite activity is coloring. I bought a bunch of alcohol markers and an adult coloring book that consists of cute characters of bears, ducks, dogs, and cats; it’s just been really fun and relaxing to sit back and color. It’s very nice to meet you all and I am very excited to be a part of this course. 🙂

  4. Hello, my name is Aniya Young and I’m an upper junior with a major in journalism. My favorite movie is The Greatest Showman and I like to cook, bake, read, and write. My favorite ice cream flavor would have to be vanilla but I love any ice cream with hints of caramel. Cookies and cream is also a great ice cream flavor. My favorite app on the web is YouTube. I prefer cold coffee (iced coffee) to hot coffee any day. Nice to meet you all, I’m very excited to take this course, I have been hearing only good things.

    2. Hi, Aniya, it’s nice to meet you. I notice we have the same favorite ice cream flavor which is cool! I also really love iced coffee, I think it would have to be one of my favorite beverages ever. Baking is a fun hobby that I also enjoy; what is your favorite thing to bake?

  5. Hey, my name is Sylvestre. I’m a freshman majoring in communication technology, I’m looking forward to what I can do with this class. My favorite movie has to be Annihilation. I love sports as well, so I play multiple sports. Food and traveling are some of my favorite things to do. Strawberry is my favorite ice cream flavor. I stay on Instagram according to my screen time data.

    2. Hi Sylvestre. You said you play multiple sports. What are they and which one would you say is your favorite? What cuisines do you like? And lastly, do you solo travel, and if so, do you like it better than traveling with others?

  6. Hi, my name is Mishla. I’m a senior and my major is psychology. I don’t have a favorite movie because I barely watch movies. My favorite ice cream is cookies and cream. The activities that I want to get back into doing are drawing, painting, and crocheting. The app I spend my time on is TikTok. For all the other apps, I don’t care for them (such as Instagram). TikTok is more interesting, I learn more from it compared to Instagram, and it’s like YouTube incorporated in it. That’s why it’s basically the only app I use.

  7. Hi everyone, my name is Joi Calinda. I’m a senior here at York studying journalism. My favorite activities include traveling, hanging out with friends/family, and shopping. Watching TV too. As for my favorite movie I have a couple of them which include White Chicks, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, and many more. My favorite places to visit on the web is TikTok and Instagram. In addition I like strawberry and butter pecan ice cream. I recently started liking the brand “Ben and Jerry’s”.

  8. Hey guys, my name is Aiden Ramsawak. I am a starting junior majoring in environmental health science. My favorite movie changes from week to week, but I love story-based video games. In fact, I’m a huge lore buff, and I love to read. In fact, I love to read so much that’s actually a problem because I’m always running out of material to read nonstop. Anyway, I don’t have a favorite food; I just love food in general. My favorite apps are YouTube, Netflix, and Fanfiction. I can already tell I’m gonna have a good time this semester, and from what I can see, this class seems to be fun, so I’m looking forward to it.   10. Apologies for the delay in responding; I’ve ran through some challenges on my way here. Hello everyone, I’m Jasmine Vega, an upper junior marketing student with a minor in communications technology. I enjoy anything related to cosmetology, like hair, nails, and makeup. While I don’t have a favorite movie, I love indulging in Napoleon ice cream for its variety of flavors. Why have 1 flavor when you can have 3? My go to app is the Beli app, and I often find myself at Whole Foods, my favorite place. Currently, I’m navigating the overwhelming pressure of defining my future but also keen on going on more adventures and strengthening my relationship with God. I’m currently trying out this class to see if it’s a good fit, and I really hope it turns out to be an enjoyable experience for me 🙂

  11. Hello professor my name is Adrian Mongouge. My major is computer science. I am looking forward to learn and try new things in this class. My favorite things to do outside of class time is reading, watching Amine, playing video games, and listening to podcasts. One of my favorite foods is mac and cheese. I had my up and downs in my journey of life but keeping at it has help me dealt with challenges and realize that anything is possible.

  12. Hell0 Professor my name is Nadia Daley. I apologize for how long it took me to post this, i had trouble creating an account. My major is journalism and im looking forward to being able to express my creativity through my work. In my free time i like to write short stories or short movie ideas. I also play a couple of sports and i’m involved in many clubs. My favorite movie is The Incredibles because no matter how much the normal people hated them they needed them in the end.

  13. hello my name is savannah ,I had problems logging in sorry , im a freshman my major is computer technology .on My free time my favorites thing to do are to sleep , do hair and I love watching cooking videos. What im looking forward to this semester is trying to do more things with gifs conserving I barley know how to copy and paste on my computer so its a Challenge but ill accomplish it
