Final Blog – Daniel Mercado – Farewell

Ct – 101 has truly been fun. This my first semester as a digital communications major so I didn’t have any real expectations. This class has been a sincere and honest introduction to what I have to look forward to. It was fun, engaging, creative, and allowed us to be expressive. It was also challenging. Picking up news skills always is and Professor Seslow was amazing walking us through the work.
Putting together our own blogspace and teaching us to gather the materials needed to build up a blog was WAY more fun than I anticipated. From surfing Giphy and Pixabay to find the images and gifs to support our text, to creating our own gifs via Photopea and of course Giphy.  My main regret is that I didn’t get to sink my teeth in enough.
We created and registered our own domains !! and created our very own websites, This honestly was my favorite part. It was equal parts exciting and frustrating. WordPress was intuitive and easy to use. it was easy to pick and just get going. The customization was a little on the simple side but I can’t wait to sink my teeth in and edit the site some more. I saw this as an opportunity to Start something some friends and I always talked about. I welcome you to dopeassdorks.com.
This is our home page. Where my fellow nerds can see a small gallery to know we specialize in these nerdy areas (don’t come here looking for “Star Trek”………kidding of course). I loved making the header, we have our main title hyperlinked of course for easy navigation and access to our other two pages. Finding and reusing some photos  to add the small image gallery was simple thanks to Seslows tutorials. Editing the home page was pretty simple ! I wanted a welcoming color set and love the orangish gradient color scheme that were available. I tried to keep it simple and easy to follow.
You scroll down some and can see some of my previous blog post. transferring the post from the class’s blog to my own was an easy squeezy process. I had the zoom recording running the entire time I was creating the site lol. A quick copy and paste and we were in motion.
and one final scroll down and we come to our footer. It has our two other pages and some hyperlinked social you can find. The socials all lead to myself as this is more of a trial run. Follow if you want but, its just my boring life……. for now.
Next up is page two.
It’s a simple contact us page. I found a transparent picture of our good ole professor X to get the message across that we love the X- Men, also transparent so we can let those beautiful color of the background pop.
We keep it simple and clean here under our other good professor. We have some more hyperlinked socials to allow for messaging and an email address to reach me at. We even remixed a joke taken from professor Seslow shhhhhh don’t tell him.
On to page 3
It’s an about page. I greatly appreciate wordpress easy to use templates for creating new pages. We add our fancy acronym for dope ass dorks: D.A.D.s. I aim to add other people to the site if some others decide to take part that’s why its plural and basic. It has an image of me and quick summary of who I am and brief synopsis of what we aim to do at Dope ass dorks.
All in all It was a blast. The things we learned we fun. I loved making my own gifs, memes, and images. Do I think they were good ? no, I love them none the less. Ryan was an excellent teacher, easy to talk to and always accessible. I loved making the site it was amazing experience and I fully intend on using going forward. If I were being absolutely honest I would say I deserve C at worst, I should have done more blogging and provided more commentary on my fellow students work. I feel I could’ve given more. Life gets in the way but that is no excuse. At best, if someone is feeling i would get a B, I love this class it was so much fun and I genuinely took away a lot.  I look forward to learning more and implementing what I’ve learned here and creating much more out here on the big bad internets. I tried to absorb as much as I can from this class and it most certainly solidified my confidence in the field I’ve chosen !! Thank you so much Seslsow

Assignment 9 – A domain in my own name …. kinda

Dorks are cool now a days !!!
Dorkdom has invaded almost every facet of multimedia. Most of the top grossing films of all time involve superheroes or some other type of sci-fi elements.
That and being a life long nerdy boy had me hoping and praying the domain name I wanted to use was available on www.reclaimhosting.com.
Some friends and I have had an idea floating around for a while. We would gather and create a space for ourselves to express and entertain others who are also of the nerdy persuasion.
So check the availability of the domain I want to use and Boom dopeassdorks.com is born.
The process was simple and smooth, though I can’t imagine everyone had the same experience as me.
Thanks for footing the bill York, can’t wait to set up the site !!!

DS-106 Stuffs I can do and stuffs I want to do

I WANT TO THE DO STUFFS !!!
I kind of love the DS106 assignments repository. We love a fun and challenging thing to do. We love to flex our brain and creative muscles. I do feel like the user interface could use a facelift. I briefly looked into the the daily create but felt like DS106 was the site I waned to use. Daily create felt worse to navigate and frankly that made it a turn off.
Step 1: Choose an assignment.
I know it’s kind of a cop out to pick the assignment we did in class but, I had to pick this assignment out of the love for one Bob Ross. Hell, I’m even going to us the image in the prompt.  On to step 2
Step 2: Find the image
To no ones surprise this was an easy find. A quick google image search of Bob Ross and it was found !!
We save the image and then it all mountainous glory !!
Step 3: We decide on what we’re going to fill the image with. I’m thinking something along the lines or some Marvel and DC characters. so we head to Pixabay to find some transparent characters.
We make and save our choices.
Step 4: we head over to Photopea and start adding the heroes we want to the add to the scenery.
Step 5: We proceed to fiddle with the image and the added heroes. It was a lot of saving images and adding and removing them in and out.
And here we have the final product !!!!
Overall it was a fun and simple assignment. All the sites we cool and easy to use. I got use some characters that I love and slap them into one of the famous Bob Ross’ beautiful painting. I did find Pixaby’s stock limited but I did what I felt was fun.

Eventually I’d really like to take a crack  at some other assignments DS106 has to offer like this one here

I’m thinking it’s going to take a lot of work and learning. I’d have to learn how to properly edit a video. I would have to learn to write a script for a specific amount of time and fun yet daunting task !!!!

Passion – Assignment 4

When I think about the things we’re passionate about I think about the things we love, the things we cannot live without.  I love Comic books and superheroes. They’ve entered just about every aspect of my life, they’re the back ground to my phone and computer, they’re what I read on the train and in my spare time, they’re what most of content that my various social medias and youtube suggest for me.

A quick glance at my youtube will show an assortment of superhero content. I love hearing about what character is stronger, or what various adventures some of these characters that I’ve loved for YEARS.

Some of these characters don’t even feel fictional to me. To everyone this is Iron Man to me this is Tony. As wacky as that sounds he’s more like a close friend to me, close enough to call his by his first name.  I love this man and his cape wearing and shield throwing friends.

Thanks for letting me nerd out everyone !!!

Assignment 1 – Happiness

Warner Brother’s is home to DC Comics and DC is home to some of the most popular heroes known to fiction. Home to Batman, Superman, the Flash, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman. Warner Brother’s and DC Comics have had mixed results with these wildly popular heroes on the big screen. Few of their films have gone on to be major successes and have big box office draws and even fewer have been given any critical praise. The franchises are filled with characters handled so poorly many have given up hope that warner and DC could salvage anything from the original attempt to build something to rival the Marvel cinematic universe.

What makes ME happy is that it was recently announced that a new pair of CEOs are taking over at DC comics and will lead the next ten years of DC films. One of these new CEOs is James Gunn the director and writer of the Marvel film “Guardians of the galaxy” and the DC film “The Suicide Squad”. Handing over the reins to someone like Gunn gives me an immense amount of restored faith in the future of DC films. What me makes me even happier is that they’ve released the slate of DC films and television shows for us to look forward to.
