Final Course Reflection Blog Post

I can’t believe this is it. This is the end of the Fall 2020 semester and especially this course. I am both relieved and saddened.

I enjoyed this class so much for many reasons. Professor Seslow helped in so many ways not only to me, but I’m sure other can attest to his great assistance. His kind morning greetings and asking of how our week is going always put a smile on my face. It seems as if that because we are online now professor rarely ask questions like that anymore. Professor Seslow was the complete opposite. He never missed a beat. He never just jumped right into class. He was kind enough to wait at least 7 minutes for at least the majority or everyone to join the session. I found that to be a very kind gesture. It may be something so minimal to others. but to have a college professor wait on their students is a privilege, and I truly appreciated it.

Being that I am completelyyy terrible with computers and anything involving technology related work, recordings of our zoom sessions were helpful to look back on whenever I got confused before doing an assignment.  I also enjoyed this class not only because of the interactions between the professor and all of us, but the interactions between my classmates and I. Leaving comments or reading each other’s posts was a very enjoyable thing for me in class. I took great pleasure in knowing that there would never not be anyone commenting on my work. If no one else was going to comment on my work, I knew I could count on Professor Seslow to. Thank you classmates !!

While there were a lot of good times in this course for me, there was just one mishap for me. I’m kind of disappointed in myself because I was not able to complete my website. I would be working on it and customizing it to my liking and then it would either just delete my last editing completely just  delete everything I worked on. This caused me to get upset and give up. My domain name is registered and all but my website is not done.

I’m not proud at the fact that I don’t have my website complete, but after looking at some of my classmates websites/blogs my faith was renewed. I decided that even this course has reached the end, that I will continue to pursue building my website and sharing with the public eye.(friends, family, social media) It’s my fault for not fishing my website on time but I have confidence that when I finish it, it will draw a lot of attention of the audience I’m trying to entice.

I do hope and trust that my classmates will continue to build and grow their website/blogs. I have faith in you all.

The garde I believe I earn in this class is a B-.  I say I deserve this grade because I believe I did good this semester. Did I do exceptionally well as I could have…definitely NO. However the odds were surely against all of us this semester just as much as the last and we were still able to conquer and get our assignments in. My website is incomplete/possibly vanished but I promise to myself that what I learned in this course, I shall apply to possibly helping others with there digital story telling work. I would definitely recommend this course to a friend not only for the credits  but also for the beneficial skills you will acquire after taking this class.

What is Copyright?

Copyright.gov states that Copyright” literally means the right to copy but has come to mean that body of exclusive rights granted by law to copyright owners for protection of their work.”  Copyright exists so that the person. group of people responsible for creating a certain type of content can get the recognition and ownership entitled to them.

For this assignment, I watched Larry Lessig’s “Laws that choke creativity” Ted- talk. I find that what Lessig had to say was very insightful.  His approach to breaking down the similarities and differences between law, technology, culture, creativity, and etc, was rather interesting to take in. One quote that stood out was ” we live life constantly against the law, ordinary people live against the law, and that’s what I– we are  doing to our kids. They live life knowing they live it against the law. That realization is extremely corrosive…. That was Lessig’s closing statement to the audience. I was completely blown away. Those words forced to me really try and understand where he was coming from.

DS 106 Assingment

I chose to do a “bucket list ” for my first DS 106 assignment.  If you are not sure what a bucket list is, dictionary.com defines a bucket list as “a list of things a person wants to achieve or experience, as before reaching a certain age or dying.” You guys are not going to be able to see all of what my list includes… lol, but I will share a few. Disclaimer: List is not in order.

I always wanted to visit the Maldives. The Maldives, according to Wikipedia  is “a small archipelagic state located in South Asia, situated in the Arabian Sea of the Indian Ocean, it lies southwest of Sri Lanka and India.”  I always wanted to go on a vacation to the Maldives. I saw it on someone’s instagram page for the first time and told myself I should research it more.  I always heard of the name of the country but had no idea how it looked like. After looking at more pictures and doing more research, I was amazed. It is an extremely beautiful country, I can’t wait to travel to it and take in the sights it has to offer.

Also on my bucket list is skydiving. From watching videos of other people do it and hearing their experiences after they jump sounds thrilling and even more enticing to do. I wouldn’t want to it by myself though lol. It’s not because I’m scared to do it by myself but I believe “what other way to have daredevil fun, than to jump out of a plane with your best friend(s)?”

Lastly, I would like to give to charities that will benefit west African countries that are struggling with poverty.

Vaporwave Assignment

According to dictionary.com, vaporwave is defined as a ” subgenre of electronic music which features heavy sampling and editing, surreal and futuristic themes, and 1980s and 1990s imagery, musical styles, and consumer culture.”

I’ve seen the vaporware art movement before but not as much recently. I always thought it made my eyes hurt because the colors were so bright. However,I also thought it was eye catching as well.  I’m sure that is the concept of all vaporwave art, attention.  Down below are some of my favorite vaporwave art!

Mid-Semester Assessment

This semester has gone by so fast and I thought it would go by slow!

The things I have learned so far from this class were undeniably very helpful and benefiting. I registered for this course thinking it was going to be stressful. It was at first, but only because I was making it stressful myself. I was able to get the hang of the assignments we were doing with the help of Professor Seslow. He is a very organized person and possess great teaching skills. Professor thank you so much!

Learning how to make my own website and indulging myself in a bit of graphic design was very fun. I would highly recommend someone who hasn’t took this class to take it.

Registering Domain Name!

My domain name is officially registered and I am so excited!

The next step is stop personalizing my website with WordPress.  This course is pushing me out of my comfort zone and I actually don’t mind it. I’m not a big fan on courses that involve using using the computer, simply because I am not a tech savvy person. However I can’t wait to start personalizing my website and to see how it all comes out. I’ll let you all know how it turns out on my next post!

Domain Name Time!

It’s time for us to create a domain name and I couldn’t possibly be any more excited! I’ve looked forward to creating one ever since the beginning of the course.

I’ve came up with some ideas for possible domain names. My name is Jordan and one of nicknames I’m called by a lot is “Jay.” I like to talk a lot and I guess you can say I love being in the spotlight. Therefore some names I came up with so far are, JayWoodsTv.com, TalksWithJay.com, ChatWithJay.Com….

Hopefully I choose a domain name and register it successfully. I can’t wait!

Assignment #2-Gifs

Before fall semester started in general, I was already feeling a bit overwhelmed.  Adding a strictly technology based class to my schedule put the icing on the cake.

I am not the best at anything technology related lol. That is why I was extremely happy when I realized that the class was a “101” course meaning it was for beginners!

The first day of class is finally here. I am a little bit nervous still but very excited to start.

Meeting Professor Seslow for the first time was a pleasure. He was very welcoming from the beginning of the zoom meeting and spoke very calmly.

During class we discussed the CUNY academic commons account sign up, what the syllabus for the course is like and future assignments. I was shocked when he said that there are no tests for the class. I was like….

The zoom meeting ended and I could say that I was really pleased with the first day of class. I look forward to doing our future assignments, seeing my classmates post and also posting more on the CUNY academics site!
