Assignment 15: Final Blog

We have reached the painful part of the semester when we say goodbye. The online learning experience is a tad bit cruel when you won’t see your friends in the halls or on-campus after this. I feel like I’ve learned the importance of spreading knowledge on the internet. The internet boy Aaron Swartz gave himself to the same entity that turned against him because high powers charged for information we all probably take for granted. I’ve incorporated many gifs into my digital identity. I love how I can use individual gifs as a secret code for my friends for inside jokes. I will make more memes in the future, but my overall favorite is the gifs. I notice I use them way more than before this class. I learned what vaporwaves and copyright were; I was not familiar with them before

I think I deserve an A for the content and energy I brought to this class. Although creatively I’m challenged, they weren’t required, although I tried my very best. I love how lacked this class is in comparison to my other classes. Due to personal reasons, I fell into a deep depression and fell behind on my assignments. I was able to catch up with reassurance from the professor. He was accommodating throughout everything, and I genuinely thank him for that reason. I do no like WordPress. I don’t know I like the layout of CUNY Academic Commons better. It was way easier to customize my blog post.

My best work includes storytelling abilities. I have posted all my assignments to my site exclusively to generate traffic to my site. I wrote a touching piece about my two-year-old daughter Taraji Scarlet for her birthday. It started as a Facebook post, but everyone on my Facebook was so moved by it. I decided to share it. Motherhood others include Vaporwaves and Dreads

Half of the class blog assignments were exclusively for my blog, My review of my classmates’ blog, my copyright entry, and an update on my MTA bus experience are on my website. Please check it out.

My website is about me and my entire experience in CT101 to see all my post that probably lost in the feed as well as poems and real life experiences. http://wheelchairbae.com

Assignment#8: Vaporwaves

I love the nostalgia of vaporwaves as a child of the 90’s I was brought make memories i forgot existed.

I remember that 90s cup that was in ever water dispenser machine such a simple thing i still remember.

I do think it brings back childhood memories for me although some thinks i completely don’t understand i understand its significance for people who enjoy it. It is a virtual acid trip if you will to times we no longer can live in.

In honor of Vaporwaves. This is my digital art. It is a take on the popular movie mean girls featuring a cross over movie of the early 2000’s is The Wild Thorneberries and the Rugrats crossed over into “Rugrats Gone Wild”  both are mean to other characters in the show but they befriend each other in the movie.

Assignment 7: Mid semester Assessment

In all honesty I have focused more on content then on customization. I really wish there was more time to dedicate to it but between classes, Covid, holidays, my toddler who just so happens to be exhibiting signs of terrible twos (pray for me). I cannot seem to catch up on all the things i envisioned originally for my site. But like the professor keeps telling me “That’s okay” My need for everything to be perfect has caused me to kind of lag behind in this class and caused me great stress. But learning to not strive for protection in a 101 level class done online in the midst of a global pandemic is one thing I’ve learn so far. I have also learn the importance  of posting good quality content and reader engagement will always come first versus customization. Good Energy is something I enjoy creating

Without the constraints of deadlines i can be very creative. My favorite projects thus far was

The first thing I did was spend 20 minutes looking at eyes close up on google. This green one stuck out to me.

Secondly,  a tattered American flag (this art was inspired by a dream i had the night before)

Lastly, I wanted a good versus evil dynamic to my art and found this picture and loved it.

Now that we have our pictures lets get to work!!!

Step 1: I uploaded the eye picture on the app.

Step 2: Then I add the flag

Step 3: I have to get rid of that white boarder around the flag. On the app there is a magic button that removes it.

Step 4: I enlarged the flag, I manipulated the opacity of the flag.

Step 5:  I added the Good Vs. Evil drawing on top of the flag.

Step 6: I have to remove the black border on the image.

Step 7: I enlarged the image and adjusted the opacity of the image.

Viola! Here is the final product.

I named this piece Amerikkka

Pretend you are at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and you see my art. You read the caption write below it.  Heres what it would say

“Trump exposed the America we already knew existed” – WheelchairBae

🤘🏾

The eye represents the prospective viewer. The green represents capitalism in which America thrives. The tattered flag represents the wars we started and how ancestors put in work for America to fit into their homes that never accepted them. The current state of America that refuses to address racial disparities. People who hate us often burn our flag as a symbolic hatred for the real people in power (Not Us). The child is next-generation forced to follow unjust laws and beliefs of ignorance, which caused a divide between good and evil. RACISM IS THE EVIL Unity is good. WHICH SIDE ARE YOU? People wear masks; Trump exposed the real racist out here. People aren’t afraid of being racist anymore. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN-Who was America Good too? Depends on perspective, The symbolism of trump not wearing his mask and catching coronavirus is the western view of “civilization” The need to save people who are different from others. The ignorance of not protecting yourself by wearing your mask from the virus exposing others to sickness is Very American. HISTORY IS REPEATING ITSELF. History is often told from the winners’ perspective now that the whole world is impacted. Everyone’s views matter now. WE NEED TO ADDRESS THE RACIAL PROBLEMS IN AMERICA ITS LITERALLY KILLING US ALL. 🤟🏾

and Making my own memes

With everything going against me in terms of how i thought my blog would be to blogging about my CT101 class and how cool it is.

With all that being said I think I deserve an A for all the content I’ve posted and how awesome the class is

Assignment #6: Registering My Domain Name

And The Domain Choice is —->wheelchairbae<—-

I felt the process was fairly easy but I messed up big time. I typed my email too fast and it was a big thing to fix. I was unable to verify my email because of this. If you have this problem you have to accept the change  of address request the will allow you to verify the email. Thats the only issue i had with registering my domain name.My next step is to transfer all my post from the class website here

Assignment #5: Part 2: Internet Boy Response:

The Internet’s Own Boy: I thought this would be a snooze fest as soon as I saw this assignment. I was so wrong I cried during this film. I want to thank you, professor Seslow. This movie inspired me to do what I think is my life’s work. Aaron is what I believe is a unitarian universalist. I think he developed this from his role models. Also, I think the inventor of the internet, Tim Berners Lee, hadn’t given the internet for free (THANK YOU TIM), we would still be in the dark ages. Aaron knew well before his time. He wanted to be apart of something big. Something worth dying for the ability to access information. He exposed corruption, and although there is a thin line between what is legal and illegal, hearing his story is not uncommon. The government has a problem with people who invoke change. COINTELPRO was the first organization I thought of when I watched this film. It was an agency used to discredit and derail political organization who wanted civil rights. Used to target and assassinate people like MLK  and many Black Panthers. Aaron knew that there was so much corruption. I hate JSTOR for being so careless to leave the doors open in the first place for Aaron to download the files, but we have all done this without the fear of being arrested.

My favorite quote, “Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius ” Aaron was an intellect who wanted to make a difference at a young age that caused his social skills to be premature because he was never close to children his age. He hated the teachers who taught him and education as an institution. His desire to learn and teach others is very inspirational to me. The social aspects of him seem not to match his capabilities. He got himself fired by not showing up to work, and he never likes the feeling of being restricted. The idea that his life would be over because he couldn’t use a computer and being a felon was a blow to him. The label of the criminal would be a restriction to Aaron to a particular lifestyle. Unable to vote, financial freedom, his trial left him in debt. Not because he did anything wrong but to become a deterrent.

Aaron is the foundation of the Internet rights movement. The right to access information, both public and private, for free.

Assignment #5: Part 1: Choosing My Domain Name

I have a few names in mind.

#WheelChairBae. I use this for my self here on this forum as a disabled person who is nothing like what people assume I am. I do use a Wheelchair but I love to take shots with my friends, I love getting tattoos and racing my boyfriend who can walk. Bae is slang for a baby as in what you call someone you love. Life has taught me many thing about who I am People who love me love me in spite of my differences. The funniest thing about me is I do enjoy running over peoples feet when they stare at me.  When I was in high school the Kermit meme is what the teacher would take my attendance. I was happy when drake came out with that song my friends and I could lay Chamilionaire lyrics to rest.

#DissemationProject

Dissemination-the action or fact of spreading something, especially information, widely.

#IntersectionalRollingRebellion.

There is term a leased in my class called Intersectionality which is thee interconnected nature of social categorizations such as race, class, and gender as they apply to a given individual or group, regarded as creating overlapping and interdependent systems of discrimination or disadvantage. I think a lot of my problems in society Im a black disabled women which is very much interconnected I face racism and ableism and because I am a woman the wage gap does affect me. I think my website will be an interconnected blog that can benefit many different people even if you’re not disabled information can help someone you might meet who is or a family member.

Assignment#4: Digital Storytelling Project Flexibility Part 2

For this project I choose the Ghost From Ds 106 Past to complete this project you have to go through the archives of the ds106 website (or search #ds106 anywhere on the internet) and recreate it to the best of your ability while still making it your own. I found an my inspiration on instagram a superimposed superman on an eyeball.

Going into this project I was a little intimidated because of my limited abilities in Photoshop. I begin looking at photo editing apps to see if I could do this. I choose the Bazaart Photo Editor and Design App its only available on iPad and iPhone.

The first thing I did was spend 20 minutes looking at eyes close up on google. This green one stuck out to me.

Secondly,  a tattered American flag (this art was inspired by a dream i had the night before)

Assignment 3: Are Memes Art?

Art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.

According http://webopedia.com

Memes area concept or idea that spreads virally from one person to another via the Internet. An Internet meme could be anything from an image to an email or video file; however, the most common meme is an image of a person or animal with a funny or witty caption. The proliferation of social media has led to Internet memes spreading very quickly and reaching more people. Many Internet memes use humor and appeal largely to the adolescent and post-adolescent demographic: this demographic is much more likely to discover Internet memes, understand the humor behind them and be willing to forward it on to friends.”

The digital age has changed the type of media art is seen and created on. The use of paints and sculpting will always be needed, but the downside is these things break and get damaged over time. Memes are timeless in a sense they aren’t link to a period in time or an artist style. MEMES ARE ART

I had a horrible experience on the MTA Thursday after class. I got on a bus. My daughter and I boarded the bus, and the driver never secured my wheelchair. She told me it wasn’t her job to do so. She allowed my chair to skid while she drove as I held my daughter in my lap. By law, the bus isn‘t supposed to be in motion until my chair is secured. She wouldn’t give or name and badge number I reported her to the MTA. I even plan on Suing the MTA for negligence. I have made it my life’s mission to call people out on their crap when they violate my rights. Memes allow me to show how ridiculous people sound when they say ignorant things to me in relation to me being disabled. This is to bring awareness to inclusion and give a voice to people who may not be as vocal as I am.

Assignment #4: Digital Storytelling Flexibility Project Part 1

I choose the Word Cloud assignment from DS 106 my first project, it was easy to complete by myself. It requires you to use different words that have meaning to you. You turn it into a cloud by typing those words into a Word Cloud generator. WordArt Generator was the website I used. (They do charge for you to own it) However you can screenshot and crop the image. I love the 90’s vibe of the font I choose because it remind me of  the font for The Wayans Bros. The font is (Caesar Dressing).

I decided to twist this project by using a picture of me as a backdrop. I have been learning about a source’s bias when interviewing in my journalism 280 class. I realized how biased my word cloud would be because I didn’t want to put negative words in my word cloud. I decided to ask my social media followers on Facebook and Instagram to describe my personality using one word. While some most positive, some were negative (my sister is my biggest hater). Many of my friends didn’t read the previous comments and often repeated the same words.

Some words that are mentioned within the art are: Lit, Dope, Afrocentric, Genuine, open-minded, loud mean, welcoming, loyal, red, devious, sarcastic, welcoming, beautiful, ratchet, intelligent, dedicated and outspoken. The colors are what is picked up from the image (Red, Black and Green) are the colors of the pan african flag and the green depicted is actual black. Its funny how my Africana studies influence always seems to come through my art in some way. This was the first thing I noticed.

In CT101, I’m learning the importance of communication because of remote learning. Accessibility is important when trying to engage with different types of audiences. Journalism incorporates the use of social media to interact with our audience, even after I posted on my social media people continued to give me words to use which was great. This project’s photo is a personality shot that gives whoever is looking at it a glimpse of who I am. The words have meaning because they come from people who have met me in different life stages.

The Final Result

Assignment 2- Creating My First Gif

This is my reaction to the first day of CT101. I am really interested in using digital media to advance my engagement in my journalism career.

CT101 is chill in comparison to my other classes. This class has no deadlines and seems very chill. Im in a writing intensive class that requires a lot of reading and writing.

 \

I am always thinking about the type of creative content I want to create for both of my classes. ( My previous degree is Africana Studies) I was “woke” way before it became trendy.

I plan on creating worthy viral content that people can relate to and build a more extensive following via social media. I created this gif of my one year old daughter Taraji. Her facial expressions are always hilarious.

I am a self advocate for Disabled Awareness because I have Cerebral Palsy. I use a wheelchair and constantly have to educate people about the misconception of having a disability.

Assignment 1 – Internet Happiness

My internet happiness is getting all the tea. Tea in the online world refers to gossip. I love it all, whether its Facebook, Twitter,TMZ and The Shade Room. I love reading comments and these stories that are the inspiration for memes.

The most memorable Tea that was a debate amongst my friends and I was the August Alsina and Jayda Pinkett Smiths relationship. Jada, who is 48 years old, began dating August Alsina, 28 years old, while separated from her husband, Will Smith. The phrase “entanglement” went viral after the story broke.

Jada and her husband Will Smith (Left) Jada and her “Entanglement” August  Alsina (Right)

The debate over this relationship is August Alsina was a friend of Jada Pinkett’s son. He was very ill with drug addiction and other health issues. He reached out to her for help. While the age difference between obvious enough, the fact that she was still legally married and left him to go back to her husband. In my opinion, Jada used him because she was filling a void in her relationship by sleeping with him. She broke that mentor bond for selfish reasons. He was in recovery, and this didn’t help in any way.
Another thing is the double standard of it all amid the #MeToo movement. If Jada were a man, she would be considered a predator like Harvey Weinstein or R. Kelly.

Here is August interview

Here is Jada’s response
