This is what I was inspired to create, I just kinda let my mind roam with some of my interests and things I like. Such as spider-man fighting in a desert against sandman and then Goku being all the way back there. I don’t really like whales but I like the idea of sky whales I think it’s pretty cool but I do like whale sharks that’s why I added it there.

This is what I came up with. For the TV one I thought it would look interesting with the error and the bouncing dvd’s. For the second slide I had no idea what to do so I just decided to create a winter type slide. My favorite season is winter and it was around the time of halloween so I added the nightmare before christmas.

So I was reading assignment #5 and I wasn’t sure which visual assignment to pick but thankfully the d106 website had a “try random one” button.

So it landed on this

Excited to make my own website, I knew I had everything needed to make something cool. Again, off the strength of my passion for music (in my post below… lol) I created a mmm.page where I can showcase all my work on one place. It kind of makes it easier since I don’t want to put everything out right now officially, SoundCloud has become my testing ground. I don’t promote my music often or at all so I’ve herd. This website will be my start to sharing what I created quickly without anyone getting to bored of the plain everyday websites we listen to music on. I would love to know how people would react to this layout I put together, so in that case you all are my test subjects…  >:)

Honestly I like how the page came out a lot and being able to personalize it so quickly is a game changer. I considered the Pro upgrade but, lets just see where this goes for now because $10 a month is still an investment, haha.

Its probably going to be on my tabs 24/7 if I ever want to listen to my own stuff, mmm.page is so quirky and cool, Also I kept in mind that the desktop is different from the mobile version. This made me want to spice it up for different platforms, so I added the clouds and an extra playlist in that area, pretty neat stuff.

anddd we finally CAUGHT UP TO ASSIGNT MENT #7

Its been a long day and night ladies and gentlemen, it feels like I worked a Digital Storytelling Shift somewhere on somebodies website… @ryanseslow … lol jk But I honestly Enjoyed every last minute of it.

When you put your mind to something, you best believe you can achieve it. but also I want to graduate so cheers to that. Now I got an 8 page paper, Some finals and some pictures to get funky with for my photography class, and we cannot forget about the COMMENTS haha the sweet comments, yes Professor, The comments gotta go-

maybe something where we are assigned to a different person in the class for the week and we deep dive on each others work and ideas instead so people can get a solid insight and motivate each other in the creation process. While also engaging with the class as a whole eventually. Maybe it could work but its worth mentioning ykno? <3 

And how did the whole class not know this? I CANNOT BELIEVE THEY DIDNT KNOW??!!? THIS!!!!!!! LIKE I COULDNT BELIEVE MY EARS WATCHING THE VIDEO FOR LAST WEEK!!!! like no way this was possible… PROFESSOR PLEASE CLICK THIS!

STORY TIME // TRIX 7 NEWS

The first project that I choose was Sound Effect Story 
I picked this one because I have experience with audio on a digital workstation and have experimented with creating sounds with synths that sound like real life sound like animals or sound effects. Mostly for this project I found samples of other sounds like sirens and glass breaking to gun shots and etc. While also adding in my own method of creating life like sounds. I was able to create a helicopter sound cutting thru the air as you would hear it from inside the building. This was the challenging part because taking music and making it into something else isn’t what you tend to see everyday.

Can you Guess what the story is about? (Lower Volume at first!!!)

I used the same program that I talked about in my previous assignment Called FL Studios. Adding a reverb and using filters helped me achieve these sounds while also playing with the sound and volume levels I found what works best in this situation.

And for the second Assignment I choose to do Breaking News
This was a good one because I want to practice recording my voice to nice levels and manipulating it to sound like different people so this was a nice challenge as well as an addition to my previous assignment where I made the audio of the story, but if you guess correctly you would know that this is the 2nd part to the story! Enjoy!

The most interesting part about this is that I was actually able to get AI Using CHATGPT to generate the WHOLE script FOR ME! I just added names location and setting and bam. Technology is really getting advanced, because damn, it sounds so good. 

Now that I have the chance to talk about my passions, boy do I have so much to share with yall.

So much to talk about but Ill just focus on my main thing right now which is 

MUSIC!!!

Music is my main thing, I consider myself to be a pretty well seasoned producer/artist. I began making music in late April 2017. I was born in Brooklyn, NY and  lived in Queens, NY my whole life. That’s where my stage name comes from, JAYSXEAST. A blend of my name and where I’m from. [JAY-SEE-EAST]. I always loved music as a kid and would keep a Toy piano that played Greensleeves and it would help me fall asleep every night.

I then got a battery antenna radio where I would listen to music directly from there, and would always need new batteries and couldn’t sleep if the radio was dead either.  Mostly stations like Radio Disney and Z100. I was falling in love with music everyday and  I never realized it. I got a CD player and got my first album from my sister Under my Skin by Avril Lavigne and would funny enough go on to associate her songs with an elementary crush of mine named, Veronica. I was a strange kid lol. I Got Justin Timberlake’s – Future Sex/Love Sound for X-mas and played that on repeat religiously. My mom also got me a Pussycats Dolls album, but I  give that back to her unopened… I went on to downloading Mp3s off of LimeWire and Ripping them from the local library’s collection on the computer at home, and finally loading them on to my mp3 player that was the size of a AirPods case, could you believe that!

In 2017 I explored my inner self deeply meditated and tried so hard to deeply understand myself and what my existence means to me, and where does my passion begin? I came to the conclusion that music has been all around me and close to me for my whole life. I never thought that I would be able to make a song of my own, on my own. Strut is still one of my favorite songs to listen to. 

It was released on my birthday about 3 years ago July 2020.

So far ive been releasing music online via Distrokid to distribute my songs to multiple streaming services. Distrokid was something that I always dreamed about, a service that allows me to post music officially just like my favorite artist.

The music program I use is called FL Studios, and its been my favorite since. My other music friends and teachers that I meet tend to use other DAW’s Like Ableton or Pro Tools but I’ve kind of settled for this one.

Unfortunately I only put one song out for now because I fear that I want the quality of my songs to be perfected and after some time after improving I will take things down that don’t align with me anymore, but thankfully I started to repost my older stuff on Soundcloud.com so people close to me can have somewhere to check my old stuff out and to see what I’ve been working on.

There was also a point where I believed I was sounding good… until I paid 300 Bucks to compete in a showcase tour in Brooklyn. Man it was fun to participate but boy did I regret not being more prepared, I am today but now I just enjoy the sounds I make and when I drop some FIRE BE READY!!! 😉

Also I was scammed, Coast 2 Coast did not do it for artist they did it for money…

#3 MeMe’ing-ness

Memes and are they Art? According to the video, Leo T. stated which i found important to the definition of art that was pretty much summed up as. If you experience it and share for others to then experience what u felt, given thru a particular medium, it is considered art.

Whenever I want to hear others opinions on a subject I usually check out the question on Reddit!

The definition of ART is just art itself. It is a lot if you’re ready to learn about it philosophically. Here is a Website that speaks on the History of the  Definition of Art.

Memes aren’t beautiful all the time though, sometimes people use memes to make fun of others, even if its a celebrity there are good and evil ways to go about this. Calling it art is better though because Art doesn’t really have any motives until the artist makes that statement.

I think Memes are a fun little way to highlight short instances in time that are relevant to culture around the time they are made. Flash backs to the past and key things to never forget, and also the best parts of entertainment consumed. They speak to different audiences and can shorten an entire story to the summary with a sentence and picture.

First day of CT101 I really thought “oh wow sweet a computer class, I love computers” “work should be ez”…..

Its offically Time to do assignemt 7 and here I am on #2…..

I wouldnt be able to call my self a procrastinator if i didnt procrastinate, now can I?


The course is fun even tho I am the student who was absent for the past like 4-5 days. (literally lost count). I really come home to sit on the computer but I started to leave open the CT101 class to remind me what Ive been missing… but I STILL FORGET

This class is so expressive, as a art major this gives me insight into my future and what the online world offers, so I can then utilize it for my own gain. Intangible products make the best revenue in my opinion, which is a goal for me to learn how to do. This all starts with my knowledge of the internet.

I get frustrated when writing and reading for long periods of time, so using GIFs to express myself is dope, because this-

Is how I feel at the end of the night when its past 1 am on a Tuesday and I know for a fact I’ve already lost half the battle by not having my work finished on time.

With the help of different websites that contain free tools, I was able to create my own digital art. My inspiration for creating my digital art is inspired by my fandom of Star Wars. I wanted to create digital art that involved UFOs and Space.

The experience of creating digital art is very fun and I had a blast creating digital art that I find enjoyable. Tools such as GifCities, GIPHY, and mmm.page gave me the resources and help that I needed to create my digital art.

Wow, here we are at the midpoint of our CT-101 semester! Time… goes by waaaaaay too fast.. Let’s take a minute to reflect, let’s take a minute to regroup, catch up, let’s induce a class reflection!

Let us ask ourselves the following questions, and reflect:

“How am I doing in CT101?  What have I learned? What new skills have I developed, cultivated and displayed regularly? How do I assess my performance through a self-reflection in this class?”

The assessment part is very tangible and clear as we have been producing results over the last 7.5 weeks in the form of blogging, commenting, creating visual imagery, discussion via various forms and class participation.

Picking A Domain Name, too!

It’s Time to Pick a Domain Name as well! Well, lets get thinking about it!

It’s time to begin thinking about choosing a domain name  that can represent your digital self! <– (we will watch this video in class together)

Its time to start planning the website building aspect of this course! Exciting? It is indeed! But first, what is a domain?

You can’t (and shouldn’t) pick just anything..

This part is important!

It has to be unique! And it also has to be available!

It should be relevant – it could be based on your real name,

Or a nickname and or something meaningful to you!

You will need to search for its availability using a domain registrar and you can pick from a number of different ‘top level domains (TLD)’ – for example .com, .net, .us, and .org – then you can have an example like – “mypersonalsite.net”

As we go forward to select and register our domain names.

You’re also going to need web hosting, which will allow you to put files up online and will be discoverable through your new domain name! We are going to use a form of ‘shared hosting’ where you get a portion of a server – think of it as having an apartment in a building..

With shared hosting you will be able to do a lot of things including installing your own instance of WordPress! (via WordPress.org and not wordpress.com – they are a lil’ different)  With WordPress installed you can then start building your website for your domain name. I will cover a series of demonstrations on how to do this and I will record all of the demonstrations and tutorials.

But, what exactly is Web Hosting?

We use a company called Reclaim Hosting, with which we have a contract with so you can enter a coupon code and start your account for free.

**The coupon code will be e-emailed to everyone via blackboard starting next week and the week after – so I will be reminding you to check your York college e-mail address to get the code.

Digital Art Making Immediacy

I’ll be honest…this assignment drained me. I have no idea why…but it probably had something to do with the fact that I had no ideas. I saw the words creativity, the very word that should spark some remnant of imagination and get the creative juices flowing, however, I just went blank. Which made doing this assignment somewhat of a burden 🥲.

As a person who likes to be organized and remain somewhat consistent, I tried to keep everything cohesive, even though we were warned we’d make things he don’t like or care for…I’m happy I took the first step to get over this hurdle of unorganized creativity so to speak.

To create my two pages as stated in the assignment I created them on MMM.page along with some assistance from Google Images, and Pixabay. Mostly using the stickers on the website and some weirdly specific images from google I created this first page called “Something” I know…very evocative.

I decided to utilize MMM to design a poster that I plan to transform into wall art. I feel a unique connection to scarab beetles, and I’ve also chosen to craft a poem to accompany a separate poster.

I recognize that I need to become more familiar with MMM and Figma, as I’m still relatively new to using them. Navigating both platforms posed some challenges for me overall.

Then over this weekend I  went club hopping in the city and ended up, taking shots, backstage of The Box, a very famous club in Manhattan. This is a gif of my best friend and the performer at The Box. I  made this because I  see myself using this gif in the future.

I  also used https://www.remove.bg/ to remove the background from my scarab beetle. I  thought about leaving it plain but then I  love the color blue so thats why I  added the background.

I would like to say art is something that is expressed throughout ones daily life and in that, are different forms.

Two assignments intrigued me in particular when i first saw them. one was a visual assignment while the other is an audio assignment. both were interesting to me because i love scenery of nature or just open spaces in general. second, its because i love music. The Visual assignment i went for required me to be able to show the 4 seasons. in the example that it provided, it seems like i needed to show the seasons changing in a singular spot. So i did my best in order to replicate this. i knew i probably could do this assignment because of the materials that i was taught were available, otherwise i probably wouldn’t’ve know what to do.

The audio assignment i chose required me to get a music piece and change the instrumentation. this could mean taking a guitar piece and changing it into a piano piece. id choose piano because its the instrument i know how to play. Yet, i don’t have the skills to be able to change a music piece into a different instrument. i could try but i wanted to try that on my own. i definitely need more knowledge about music and how music is made. i probably don’t need to know the basics and can do it by ear, but i am sure it would help.

I wasn’t sure how id complete the visual assignment. I have never used any form of editing or photo programs or apps so it felt new to me. i wasn’t sure how to start so i began with looking for ideas. i was trying to think of really nice places that would appear really different in different seasons. one that came into mind is central park in Manhattan. specifically, a place called “the mall” in central park. i haven’t heard of it till today. i decided to look online and find 4 pictures of this area of central park in it the 4 differing seasons.

           

           

are memes art? definitely. although memes have not existed too long in the grand scheme of things, there were definitely meme precursors that were also art- the comic strip! think of peanuts, the far side, garfield or any other comic strip… those were analog memes; a funny little picture and words for context to tell a story and make the audience feel something (humor, namely)

you can argue that the comic strip was “more” of an art than memes are because the artist actually had to sketch the featured drawing but memes often consider digitally altered or created images that the artist put time and effort into creating- no different than doing a sketch in my opinion…

memes are art for many reasons;

firstly, because they require skill and practice to make at an advanced level. like any other art form (painting, dancing, sculpting, etc.) , it is one that could be perfected over time. and like any other art form, it exists on levels scaling from primitivity to mastery.

memes, like all other art forms, have sub styles- there’s dank memes, niche memes, ironic memes, deep fried memes, etc. and once a new style of meme is created by someone, they inspire other people to make similar memes… like in art, the style of one artist or memeist will inspire hundreds of others to embrace the same style and implement it into their own work.

memes are art people they make people feel something. happiness is the first emotion that comes to mind, but I have definitely come across memes that have boiled my blood or have made me feel sad, I’ve even seen memes that made me feel shameful I could find them funny.

most importantly, memes are art because they shape our culture. memes are timely, and document important social events. memes require context- sometimes the context will have to do with pop culture, sometimes politics, sometimes the PSAT– without the context, you’re lost.

i think some people’s reluctance to recognize memes as art stems from some form of elitism because as pointed out by the guy in the video , memes have the potential to be participated in by everyone; memes are inclusive whereas more classical forms of art sometimes are not. i love the quote he cited from Tolstoy- “to invoke in oneself a feeling one has once experienced  and having evoked it in oneself, then by means of movements, lines, colors, sounds, or forms expressed in words so to transmit that feeling that others experience the same feeling. this is the activity of art.” i completely agree that this quote can be directly applied to memes.
