Assignment #2 – Making our first GIF post!

Making our first GIF & GIF Post Narratives!

Assignment #2 – (scroll down for the full video tutorial)

Exciting times! Lets make some GIFS and explore the history, contexts and potentials of this Internet Culture Sensation! GIFs are obviously here to stay! How far will they go?

But First, and Importantly:

What makes a successful, compelling and engaging Blog Post?

We have a contrast and a result to work from now that we have published out first assignment, looking back, did you cover all of these aspects listed below? (you can always edit and update your existing posts!)

Good Blogging:

  • is thoughtful with your post titles –  How will your audience know what the post is about if you don’t make this clear and engaging?
  • giving your opinions, feelings, insights & philosophies – Ct101 is a platform for you to share, express and discover the potentials of creative writing through media and narratives.
  • backing up your resources, inspiration and research with links, we need to see where the information has come from.
  • proof reading your grammar and punctuation. Its OK to work stylistically, but it should be kept consistent.
  • and always embedding cool media that’s made or found from elsewhere to give context and keep the audience engaged.
  • what could we add to this list?

(you can click on the images above and they will re-direct you to their websites. I did this by selecting the “custom URL” option in the media / image uploading specifications area and added the URL)

Imgur and Giphy are great platforms to explore and create GIFS with! They have a HUGE repository to choose from! In our Zoom class this week (week #3) lets check out both of these platforms in a series of live video tutorials, both Imgur & Giphy are free to use and work with. (You can sign up for your own account, both are free) Lets experiment with both platforms this week as we work on this post. Be sure to share our thoughts on what you think about both, did one work better for you? If so, what were those features?

**Below is the class video tutorial for week #3. Referring back to the video will be helpful in completing the assignment.

*The Assignment Details:

Lets publish a NEW BLOG POST of your own and comment on one of your Classmate’s GIF Posts!

This week – lets create a NEW blog post using your CT101 Author access on our class website and embed a series of new Reaction GIF s that narrates your feelings about our CT101 class so far! How can you tell your story in GIFs so far?

Think about these questions; What did you think on the first day of the CT101? Did you like hearing about the course and its creative content? How does CT101 compare to some of your other classes? Also, address what the potentials of this class are?! (yes, you can make this post as long you wish and make it flow like a story – This assignment description that you are reading is also a BLOG post example of the assignment!) Each reaction GIF that you use should be accompanied by a sentence or two or three of verbiage to help describe the GIF and narrative you are communicating.

**And be sure to also comment on one of your Classmate’s GIF Posts!

Here is an example of me responding in GIF expressing above : “Demonstrations and examples will be shared and executed in our class Zoom lab time, don’t miss it!” (and if you do miss it, Ill post the video tutorial from class here below) Sinister audio fades in and out as Skeletor GIFs himself into oblivion!

Lets get started!

**PS – Here is a handy tutorial on how to make a GIF from a YouTube URL using Imgur from Prof. Smith a few years back –  My first GIF post

How do you say it / pronounce it? Gi-f or Ji-f?

The battle continues! And the Internet will not ever let us

Oh, and what about some GIF history?

Here is the WIKI for the GIF file format – its a good read.

Final Post- FIN

About Course and Skillsets

Taking Ct101 has been a fun and exciting journey. I initially thought this class would have been a lot of work but I was totally wrong. I thought I would’ve had to be computer savvy and be able to have prior experience of using the internet and different software. But boy was I WRONG! This course is very user friendly! Professor Seslow is so great at his class course tutorials; that even if you missed a week of work you would still know how to do the assignment.

There were a lot of times where I missed a set in a live class session and the zoom recording saved me. Lol

I have learned so many skill sets like gif and meme-making, hyperlinking, embedding videos, creating my very own domain, and challenging myself to learn how to create logos. The CT101 website was set up in a way where every week we were learning a new skill set and were encouraged to recreate content containing all we learned. These assignments were never too difficult in my opinion, seeing that I am a millennial and the content was familiar to me.

It’s a bittersweet feeling to know that this course has come to an end.

Website Information

Because I enjoyed how we were able to pick and choose how we wanted to do things and we had most of the creative authority. Especially when it came to our websites! (Heres the link to mine)

I thought I would have had more time to develop my website. I created my website with the intent to self journal. So, I would blog about my self-care ideas, quarantine-safe fun activities, and/or my every day-to-day struggle as a young adult. One major success is that I was able to follow the step thoroughly to develop my website. It wasn’t hard to customize it to my liking because I had a visual in mind already. I was going for a stylish but simple look because I am girly but not too extreme. One of my biggest frustration during this process was TIME. Between my other demanding classes and CT101, I didn’t get a chance to post as much on my website as I wanted to. But seeing that I’ll be done with classes this week, I will definitely keep up with posting. I feel as though writing can be very therapeutic and so this is why I will upkeep my site.

My website is set up pretty much like the tutorials the only thing is that I have included an about me page and a gallery. The about me page is just a little summary of me and what the website will entail. The gallery is just there for all the logos and/or pictures I make upload in my blog post.

Grade

I feel as though I deserve an A, A-,

HERE ME OUT! Lml

I have managed to complete all of the week’s assignments. Also, I have put my best effort into creating content that was completely thought out and structured. I was always taught when you do something make sure you give it a 100% and that’s what I did in this course!

GIFS

This is my first time creating a GIF ! Can’t wait to show you mine! When I enrolled in this class I was a bit nervous and curious on how to use digital features. I knew that we need to use specific digital tools to complete our assignments.

My friend recommended this class to me, saying the class is fun and I will learn so much. So here I am.

Attending the first two weeks of class was amazing! Professor Seslow is passionate about what he’s doing. I am loving this class already, it is full positive vibes.

This is the GIF I created

STAY SAFE EVERYONE !

Domain Registration

I’m officially an owner of my very own website.

So out of my 3 domain option names, I chose to go with RAAIWLou.Com!

I personally felt that they name was fitting for all the thousand & one ideas I would like to incorporate into my website. I’ve settle on doing a blog, self journal kind of blog website. So, each week I would sure one idea and/or event that has been the highlight of the week. In doing this, it gives me the opportunity to share all my ideas I came up with in my last post. (Here’s the link to checkout my brainstormed ideas: https://ct101.commons.gc.cuny.edu/domain-name-assignment-2/?preview_id=2152&preview_nonce=57fb21556f&post_format=standard&_thumbnail_id=-1&preview=true

This process in registration goes my domain was soooooo easy. It was so effortless and user friendly, that I was able to register from my IPhone! It took me about 2 minutes to read over the instructions and another 2 to complete the process! Lol

I wish I would’ve did it the day of when we got the assignment. I know, It’s the procrastinator in me!

Here are come screenshot of evidence that I’m registered:

1st Pic: I got an email welcoming me. How sweet?!

2nd Pic:This was the last in which you had to do, which is to verify my email.

3nd Pic: I just clicked the link reclaim provided & my email was verified in less than a minute.

Overall, this was one of the easiest assignments to complete. You just had to follow instructions & your good to go. For the future assignments, I think it’s going to get more difficult because I’ll have to make the final decisions about everything for my website. And boy am I my best believe biggest critique! But I have high expectations/hopes to create phenomenal content!
