CT 101 Final Blog Post/Ilvea Lezama

Let me start off by saying this semester flew by … Just last month we were writing our mid-semester review and now here we are writing our final post…

**Fake cries in Spanish**

What have I learned in CT101 … the question should be what haven’t I learned. I BUILT my own website, I am have created my own domain, I have created giphys, I have taken background out of pictures, used DS106 (I found it confusing in the beginning). So many tangible things obtained in throughout the semester, is amazing. Because of the dedication I have put into my work week by week, because I been present in every class (late! but present), because I am a curious child of the universe and I ask endless questions … I believe I deserve an A+ and my work and drive are here to back up my statement.

I know I mentioned it earlier but I CREATED MY OWN WEBSITE. I just keep adding on skills to my resume and honestly I am scared … I am scared I’ll be the next Steve Jobs and take over the world. It would be too much for the world so I am going to be considerate and take it easy, I don’t want the world to worry about this amazing force to be reckoned with (ME). I am a Gemini, I carry that Kanye energy with me … sometimes you have to because if you don’t carry that confidence who is going to carry it for you.

I am so vocal about my achievements that once I even created my domain, I bragged about it with all my family and friends. I enjoyed pretty much everything we did because I am a curious person, everything and anything I could learn is an add-in skill for me. I am planning to work more in depth on my website over the summer. I want it to be like me … open to all options. I don’t want it to have a specific theme, I want it to be about wellness but also post some of my poems, writing pieces, photos, funny videos and just anything that comes to mind.

I had a vision for my website but unfortunately, I couldn’t make it happen. I have a PC at home and if you’re going to open my website with a PC you might encounter the same problem. The photos are not visible, and my website does not look as appealing as I would have loved it to be. I had the opportunity to work a bit on it thanks to my sister’s tablet. WordPress has something against PC’s and not Apple computers. I am hurt. Steve Jobs will always be a genius, nothing but respect for the man. but I mean come on! what did PC’s ever do to WordPress that I can’t access my website (fully) 🙁

I had a vision of having this Namaste website, very welcoming, peaceful type of site. I took some screenshots with my sister’s tablet of what I have so far, throughout the summer I will take my time to work on it thoroughly, hopefully by then WordPress has forgotten we ever had any sort of beef and it lets me work freely on my vision. I been frustrated since last weekend trying to work the site … and I am over it, right now! I need a break …

See photos below for what my website looks like … Namaste! I think I am the most excited to post my poems and pieces I have written. In the summer I make it a goal to read about 3/4 books but this summer I will be adding to work on my website. Here is InamasteWellness.com

Even the quality of the screen shots are trash. I don’t know if you guys can tell but I am overly upset over encountering this problem, I know it is not the end of the world but I wanted to deliver a great website, I wanted to give a tour of such on Tuesday 5/23 but I will not, I am not pleased at all with how it looks. I hope all of ya’ll had a better outcome than mine. I can’t wait to read ya’ll post and watch ya’ll videos of the websites tour.
P.S. Professor Ryan, thank you for a wonderful semester full of learning life lasting skills.

Assignment #10 – Customizing series, Part 1!

I been having a frustrating time working on my website, it started all very simple but then all of the sudden, my wifi took me out the website and it went from having a website to having none. checkout the photos underneath.

                                                                         END
At this point I have decided to take a break and let it be until I see Prof. Ryan on Tuesday, hopefully by then the problem with accessing our websites in school gets resolved.

Assigment #9 – “The Journey Begins”

Using Reclaim Hosting was very straightforward and FREE :))))))

Uncle Joey is coming to remind us!!

But just when I thought I had it all figured out with my domain name … I couldn’t access it … an error message kept coming up so then Prof. Ryan said to try it at home because it could of been an error at school (AN I.T PROBLEM). I came home tried it and it still didn’t work …

So then I emailed the genius himself!  Prof. Ryan! he said to submit a ticket to Reclaimhosting.com and now I am just waiting on them to respond back.  Hopefully I can get this resolved and start working on my website.

MY WEBSITE IS WORKINGGGGG

How awesome is this … we are working on building our own website! a lot of us have goals and dreams of becoming entrepreneurs, so this is literally the best thing ever, we will have complete control over it! we could add, redesign and do as we please with our website and content — after we register our domain name. Now the hard part is …. what domain name do I want?! I am into so many things .. I don’t know where and how to start.

I do want it to be along the lines of wellness, yoga, keywords used in yoga, but definitely wellness related like self-care, self-love that is what I am all about. Let’s see what my top five name ideas are:

  1. inamastee
  2. inamastewellness
  3. ibodymindsoul
  4. imindfullshare
  5. iselfcare

hint all my potential names start with (i) because my name starts with the letter i 🙂 looking forward to to seeing what everyone else has in mind for their domain name ideas!

Assignment #7 — Mid-Semester Re-Cap Time!

Mid-Semester means … we are almost done! well more than halfway done at this point …

How am I doing in CT101?

I believe I am doing very well with CT101. I have completed all 6 assignments plus this one I am all caught up. I have the tendency to be very stern with my homework, I don’t like for my homework to pile up because than I get too stressed out and I feel like pulling my hair out. This semester I am taking five classes; so homework’s are a priority.

What have I learned and retained the most?

I have always had a problem with retaining information, it is something I have struggled with my whole life. The videos Prof. Ryan records for class are such an excellent thing for me because I can always refer back to them. I do remember how to use the websites and their software’s, but a little reinforcement never hurt anyone.

What new skills have I developed, cultivated and displayed regularly in my weekly posts?

Out of all the programs we have worked with, Giphy has been my favorite ones so far, also removebg because I could literally remove the background of any desire image by just clicking “remove background” can it get any complex than that?! and back to Giphy, I have learned to make GIFs by embedding videos to make GIFs.

What do I know now that I did not know before taking this class?

HOW TO USE WORDPRESS. I remember taking graphic design classes when I was in high school and that’s the furthest, I ever worked with technology. It has been a really interesting journey from the beginning of the semester to now.  All the programs with have used in the class I have never used before it, and I am looking forward to what the rest of the semester has to offer.

What grade do I believe I am maintaining and why do I deserve that grade?

I have completed all 6 assignments and participate in class, engage in all types of discussions because I am a curious soul who needs to know the ins and outs of everything.

Do I see my weekly blogging work expanding creatively? If so, please explain why –  or am I stuck in a loop where my posts seem to look the same most of the time, how will I change that?

I would say as weeks pass and we learn a new program with the usage of them my work has expanded creatively. The more programs we use the flexibility and ability to get more creative we have. I felt stuck in a loop when it came to working with DS106 at the beginning but rewatching the class recording over and over again helps a lot!

Are there any assignments that you are missing? If so, list them.

Because of the way I work and the way I am when it comes to my classes and the commitment I have with them, I am not missing any assignments. I was back up with assignment #5 and #6 but I caught up during the weekend.

Are you commenting regularly on your classmates posts? Are you responding back to comments given to you by the professor & your classmates?

I do not comment on my classmates posts regularly but I will work on that soon. I do comment back on the feedback I get from prof. Ryan and the classmates that comment on my posts. That is the one thing I can improve at and also getting to class on time instead of 20 minutes late. My goal over the next weeks is to comment on my classmates’ posts.

Let’s make some ART – Assignment #6

I am pleased with the programs we have explored so far, definitely looking forward to to learning many more. This week’s theme is ART — with incorporating different websites and their content together.

How does creativity work? Where do most people get their creativity from? Is there a such thing as being uncreative? I truly believe that each one of us are creative someway, somehow. I believe some of us are an inspiration for others creativity! WE ARE ALL MUSES.

I love Julia Fox, she is an Aquarius Queen!

Getting back on track; Figma and mmm.page are both free, but I only ended up making an account for Figma because mmm.page was giving me problems (not sure if I was the only one). One website I have fallen in love with is Pixabay because I used it for last week’s assignment, and I am familiar with the problem. When I think of creativity, I think of Outerspace, I think of the galaxy, the moon, the universe … all these elements we were blessed with, so naturally when I thought of a background to choose for this project, I chose …

I love the tools that we are given by prof Ryan, I love how easy it is to work with Removebg, I uploaded a picture someone took of me and took the background off, it was as simple as 1,2,3 actually I think 1,2,3 takes longer to say LOL than to press “remove background” on the generator.

There it is … before and after
I been playing with Removebg, just picking random photos and taking their background off. Now below will be my first half of the assignment by using Figma, Photopea and Removebg (which just became my favorite site).
I call this image the three faces of happiness featuring yours truly. Now that I have completed inserting, moving and overlapping the key elements in the photo above, it is time to see how it would look when applying the filters from Photopea.
I chose to the Pallete Knife filter with the filter it went from the three faces of happiness to the three figures. Now the final result after playing with all filters is here: I used Photopea to incorporate three different filters and combine them with the original image. I incorporated it as a background; it was a very interesting process.

Digital ds106 – Assignment #5

Analyzing which generator to use from DS106 site had me stressed.
Trying to identify what two project ideas to work on has been SUPER overwhelming because I have never had the chance to work with the site before. But ultimately, I managed to complete the assignment and enjoyed the process. Also, this skill could be applied to my resume as a tool/software that I am familiar with so that is always a plus. Once again thinking of finding two project ideas to work on where one has to be completed and another one “that I would want to work on, has made me feel
                                                                  SUPER OVERWHELMED!
Nevertheless, I got started with rewatching the class recording. Thank God and Prof Ryan for the video recordings, they help so much! I rewatched – fast forward – rewind – freeze – and do it all over again until I finally got it.
ds106 Assignments: Populate the landscape inspired my first project. I followed step by step what Prof. Ryan did but instead of picking a Bob Ross painting I dogged into beach paintings.  I came across Beach Scene, 1862 by French painter Eugene Boudin
Once I came across it, I knew this would be the image to work with.
I love the beach even though I don’t get in the water most of the time just the fact that I can seat under the sun and receive the radiant rays’ shimmer on my skin with pureness and delicate while listening to the waves. Then BOOM! I opened up Photopea … which I was afraid of in the beginning because of all the layers to it.
I selected New Project and inserted the Beach Painting, literally DRAGGED the image in without a problem.
Meanwhile I had Photopea open, on another tab I had Pixabay opened. As soon as I picked the image above I kind of had an idea of what I wanted my final project to look like … Once on Pixabay I searched up extraterrestrial (transparent) so it had no background to it & it could be credible.
Now this is where this bad boy above came in handy! Once I had that one ready, I said mhmm… what could possibly be beaming up …
You guessed it right !! An awesome SLOTH! hahaha — unusual right? I love sloths … they are such a mood sometimes. Once I dragged all of them into Photopea and played around a little … meaning I inserted them multiple times because they didn’t come up but then I came to realize a very specific thing.

Also look at the video below, it will help you with browsing around Photopea.

Make sure the image you want to move around is on the top or else it won’t be either visible or you won’t be able to move it as prefer. I know you guys have been waiting for the big big big final project! here it is …
I am pleased with the results, sometimes simplicity is sophistication. I liked my end result … Imagine being at the beach and you seen an extraterrestrial ship beaming a sloth! I would probably grab the sloth and get beamed together :). I do see myself making more of these types of projects, once I have an idea, I like to execute it.

Digitally speaking about my Passion

If you are more of a visual learner, the video below is a great way for you to learn about the brief history of how far the internet has come since the beginning of time to now. I think influencers and internet personalities should thank Mahir Cagri for creating that bridge between himself, the internet and the public. According to Cagri, the movie Borat was based on him. That movie would of never made it in this time and age, cancelled culture would have driven it out of all streaming platforms. Cagri, blogged with his broken English about traveling, women, and his love for accordion.

My early years of blogging started with Myspace, with my first social media friend was Tom.

I am not sure if many of you will remember MySpace but it was IT back when I was in middle school.  I used to use different generator pages to change my background, to add music and to send different types of glittery graphics. MySpace now is a music streaming page, but you could watch the video below to learn a little bit more of its history. It is 15 minutes but pretty interesting, give it a chance!

After MySpace diminished, I opened Facebook then Facebook started vanishing in popularity because Instagram came around, while in Instagram one of the first pages I followed was Humans of New York. A very impactful page because it is very self-identifying. We as humans love reading stories about other people overcoming difficult situations, we all love heroic stories, it is in our nature.

I love reading personal blogs! you get to learn so much about an individual just by the things they share. The last 3 years I been in a spiritual journey —After coming out of a dark space in my life. I knew I needed to direct my energy towards something that was going to bring me INNER PEACE. This spiritual journey has introduced me to getting closer to God, yoga, meditation, journaling, being in contact with nature, appreciate the sun, the moon, the stars, the energy that surrounds us. I meditate every day, every second, every moment of silence. To meditate is to be mindful, grateful and aware of yourself. It is not as hard as one might think, a moment of silence can redirect your whole day.

Here I am meditating at Stowe Mountain Resort in Vermont

My favorite Yoga instructor is Adriene Mishler, her Youtube channel has 30-day challenges, she has quick 10 minutes yoga videos, Yoga when you’re feeling unmotivated, Yoga for beginners, how to use Yoga to get a good workout in, her channel has it all & if you don’t like the way she instructs, once you’re in the Yoga channel more instructors come up. The video below is only 5 minutes, just watch it and if it motivates you go ahead and try it 🙂

I have hectic weeks — I have classes Monday thru Friday, I work Sunday thru Thursday, I am a mother, so my days are HEAVY. There is always something going on … but Fridays are my mindful days (before my son gets back from school). I do a quick Yoga session at the gym, do my work-out and dedicate that time for myself. With so much going on in our lives we sometimes forget to give time to ourselves, we forget we are our own best friend, and we need to take care of ourselves emotionally, mentally and physically before taking care of others. I encourage you to put your phone down for three minutes, get in touch with yourself, listen to your thoughts, be present. I hope you took something positive from reading this today, Namaste.

Let’s get Artsy with Memes

Bob Ross meme

I made the meme above with Makeameme which I found very easy to work with. There is other two versions of it, but the free version has blank canvas for you to create your own. I made the meme above because the real question is: Are Memes art? I would definitely say so! and you know who else agrees with me? Aristotle, Andy Warhol and Leo Tolstoy.  Memes is art because people use them with the sole purpose of communicating their experiences. Don’t believe me? watch the video below.

We can’t talk about Memes without discussing the history behind it. It has been an idea since 1972, the internet was meant to be big since the thought of it. the concept of Memes became an idea in 1972 by Richard Dawkins

Then boom! many years after we have the first meme ever created — the dancing baby. I played different types of music while looking at the meme and yes! the dancing baby dances anything from country music to Punta (Honduras native dance). it’s creator Michael Girard and Robert Lurye worked with how they could with their 3D animation software, and they did a good job with it, I mean the baby has better moves than Mick Jagger. So, I give it a 10/10.

On the other hand, “All your base are belongs to us” I give it a 1/10 for effort lol. It doesn’t help the fact that the translation is way off but that happens more than we think, I notice it with a lot of shows in Netflix … I watch Spanish Series with English subtitles and I catch some translations like beyond off and I say to myself huh! that is not what he/she just said.

Memes are here to stay, especially now with the growth of social media outlets like Twitter, Instagram, and Reddit. I am a Twitter user and half of the interactions on a post are Memes not actual phrases or words. I think memes are more self-expressive, now a days we are more comfortable with sharing an image to show how we feel than to put it in actual words. As the years go by, we will have more and more memes being created. There are more shows being created with characters we will identify ourselves with. Those characters become our “mood”; this is just the continuation of trend setting.

You see the meme above, from Pineapple Express one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. That is the fun part of memes! You could storytelling without meaning to. You see the concern look in Seth Rogen‘s face but then James Franco looks like he is trying to calm him down, that itself is a story.  For example, I made a few memes of my own on how I feel about CT101, Prof. Ryan and when I get an email notification letting me know he has commented on my post.

Are Memes art? The definite answer is YES IT IS!

Let’s get creative!

Let’s get Narrative!

A few of my colleagues in the Journalism department have taken CT101 and I said Aha! let me give it a shot (I am glad I did). When Prof. Ryan talked about what we would be doing throughout the semester, it was delightful to hear. I am a creature who loves learning everything and anything. Also, thanks to Steve Wilhite for creating this type of format because that is how we are making this assignment possible.

I like challenging myself, I like to get creative, I like to explore the land of the unknown … something like COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY.  I like to make mistakes, fix them and hopefully never make them again.

I am accepting the challenge of getting creative because in my field of study (journalism) I have to stick to the facts and there isn’t space for creativity. I am taking 15 credits this semester, and this is the class that has allows me to kick back a bit and don’t stress too much.

I made my own accounts for Giphy and Imgur. I found it easier to make GIFs with GIPHY than with Imgur. I think because we got introduced to GIPHY first, maybe? I feel more comfortable working with it, something about it is more familiar. I am still not giving up on Imgur, I’ll poke around more until I get to create something I am proud of. I am hoping to expand my knowledge with both platforms and other technological outlets.

This weekend I spend time making some GIFs with using Drake and 21 Savage’s new music video “Spin bout U” from their collab album “Her Loss” which I am sure many of you have heard of it. I actually enjoyed it very much! make sure you check them out, I made about 4-5 GIFs (like the one below). GIFs have become a way of expression for many people, including myself, I can’t wait to get some free time to create some more. It is a very entertaining way to express our thoughts and feelings! Feeling flattered because GIFs are a millennial like me 🙂

Assignment #1 – What from the Internet has made me happy this Week?!

Hello everyone, what from the Internet has made me happy this past week?! well lets get started …

The Grammys happened on Sunday, the opening show got everyone moving. Performed by one of my favorite artists Bad Bunny who performed “El Apagon” and “Despues de la Playa” two songs from his album”Un Verano Sin Ti”, album that won Best Musica Urbana Album!

For the past year or so I been away from social media platforms but Twitter and TikTok because well I need some type of entertainment sometimes …
I stay on Twitter because as a journalist major, I need to be on top of the latest news! and I also get daily reminders from WE THE URBAN
a page I highly recommend you guys follow on every social media platform
I don’t think I have to say much about why I stay on TikTok because I think we’re all pretty hooked on it LOL … I learn something new every time I scroll, and I always have a good laugh with them funny videos!
The best app out there that makes me happy happy happy super happy even on the gloomiest days is SPOTIFY, I get it all, from Music to Podcasts! all for mine 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
Loved completing this assigment .. I AM READY FOR THE NEXT ONE
