Exploring My Classmates Websites

Exploring The World Wide Web

For today’s assignment, we had to explore some of our classmates websites, and in doing that I saw many fun and creative websites that were  just awesome.

The one that stuck out the most to me, was Cassie’s website There’s Life Outside. First off, I love astronomy and all things about the universe, and I haven’t seen a good conspiracy theorist in awhile, and Cassie I think you are really onto something with your website. It was straight-forward and to the point, and I like how you designed the background, and the pictures you included. It is very unique and very creative, well done!

(An Astro Vibe!)

I also enjoyed Angel’s website A Strange Perspective, it’s the perfect amount of optimistic and realistic. Your perspective of the average human being exploring and enjoying life is very interesting, I like how your writing is very complex yet simply put.

Being a writer myself, I can appreciate when someone writes from a place of truth, for in the truth lies the key to a balanced existence. Sounds a little too deep, but it’s true. So Angel and Cassie, you guys both did a great job on your websites, and I can’t wait to see what you come up with next.

The Future of My Website

How will i be using my website going forward?

Well first things first, i forgot to tell you guys my website name, its AnilMangroo.com. It’s nothing yet but a blank canvas ready to be covered.

So honestly, I initially wanted my website to be about my major, a place where prospective employers could view my contributions to my major. However, given how simple it is to setup to a website, i just may create another website that will showcase my work and credentials.

I think my website will display who i am, my photography, my experiences and  journalism that i’m proud of. Which is why i choose my name to be the domain. After this class has ended, if i could post 3 posts a week of either art or events i think this website would be successful in my eyes, i plan on linking my instagram and facebook accounts to gain attention.

I took a look at Professor Seslows website and it really inspired me, like seriously, professors a legend. Im about to graduate this semester and im considering returning just to learn some communication tech & animation.

The artwork and layout of his static cover is exactly something i want. I have an idea in mind, but its all speculation and could change at any moment.

If i could say one thing, i wish my high school had taught us communication tech or website development in our early years, maybe then i could’ve had my original domain name @anil.com. I know this class & information could benefit a ton of students with a vision however it sucks that it wasn’t given to them at a younger age.

INTO THE UNIVERSE WE GO !

ARE WE TRULY ALONE???? 👽

Are We Truly Alone?

The concept of life is quite complex and the idea of other life forms existing out there is truly mind-blowing. This blog post was interesting to do and I can’t wait to start discussing all the things life has to offer us here on Earth. Feel free to tell me what you think about what else you think is out there. Do you even believe in a multiverse? Do you think we’re alone? Any suggestions for my website?  I hope you enjoy this blog!

Customizing My Website

Excited to have my own website! Pretty overwhelming! 😃

I was able to successfully register my domain name and set up my WordPress website.  Wow, I never thought about having my own website.  Pretty exciting! 😃

Watching Professor Seslow’s video, I was able to play around with the WordPress settings and add some customization.  So far I’ve changed the background color on my website, added a plug-in, played around with the primary and secondary page settings, and more.  The challenge for me is, I haven’t decided exactly what I want to use my new page for…I’m at a loss…it’s frustrating. 😩

Me at a loss…frustrated! 😩

I think for now, I’m just going to use my new WordPress website for school purposes.  I’ve used it so far for my journalism class to write articles, and I’ll be using it for CT 101 projects.  Maybe in the next few weeks or so something will spark an idea what to use my website for beyond school.  Fingers crossed! 😳

Me with fingers crossed…hoping an idea is sparked for my new website. 😳

Domain registration & Web hosting set up!

Its a breeeeeeeze,

I’m still trailing behind on past work, but the good thing is Professor Seslow Records class sessions. Setting up my website and getting everything together has honestly been a cakewalk because of it. Im able to go back and replay anything if i had any issues. This is great while many other professors i’ve sadly previously taken do not record class sessions for privacy it puts a strain on other students who need help.
The hardest thing i incurred was 2 things:

Again picking a domain name; i spent an estimated 30 minutes contemplating if i had any other better ideas

And lastly customizing the websites background color, i spent around 15 minutes going through color options.
I know i know, i could always go back and pick a different color but I want my website to be the best thing from the jump.

One thing that i should remind students is by adding meta to widgets its much more simple to login to your website from the front end, just FYI if anyone wanted to do that.

Anywho, this was my experience setting up, nothing crazy! Thanks for reading!

#7 Mid-semester Assessment

I can’t believe how fast the semester is finishing up. But so far this is one of my favorite classes, and I believe I am doing pretty good so far.

I have learned a lot!…and I mean a LOT through this course. This class has made me learn and do things that I never thought I could do myself. CT-101 really brought out the creative self in me. The greatest learned asset in this class is being able to photoshop and edit images.

The skills have I developed, cultivated, and displayed regularly in my posts?

There are quite a few, one is the photo editing skills like I said earlier, which was my favorite part in this class so far. Working on the DS-106 assignment was really exciting and enjoyable. I was able to develop some digital art skills through that assignment working on the movie poster mashup.  Another is the writing skills through these weekly blogs where I got to create GIFs and memes for the first time.

Reflecting through my posts, my first two posts are a bit too bland truth be told because I had no idea what I was doing.  But then in the third post, I did more research and started putting more effort into making it more readable. The topic was Are Memes Art? I had a few ideas in my mind on how to put it, and everything worked together in the end and I was REALLY satisfied with that post for the first time in CT-101. The topic itself gave me chance to stitch both historical pieces of information about memes, with the memes I created myself for the post. I think I was able to keep the blog fun, interactive and informational at the same time. The class had given me a whole new view of blogging where I have only been reading other people’s blogs on the internet before and now I got a chance to learn that for myself here at CT-101. Now I know how to blog! Yayyy! I know how to make GIFs and memes! and most of all I know how to photoshop and edit! which once I thought I could never do it myself. In this class, I take my time to post assignments, one reason is that I often feel insecure about my posts and I cannot post unless I feel a little satisfied, so I often do drafts and work along with time and modify them which had really helped me a lot. And yes, definitely I feel my blogging work had expanded over the semester from zero creativity to a level of 8 maybe if I rate it out of 10 and still gotta long way to go. These are all my CT101 posts so far :

  1. Post 1
  2. Post 2
  3. Post 3

#6 The Internet’s Own Boy

The “Internet’s Own Boy”, Aaron Swartz was far more than just an immensely talented programmer. From the development of the basic internet protocol RSS to co-founding Reddit, his fingerprints are all over the internet. There were a lot of significant moments in the documentary that shows us how fascinating and exceptional Swartz was. One of his quotes that caught my eyes was:

‘If you had magical powers, would you use it for doing good in the world or making piles of money’–Aaron.

Swartz was always full of ideas. Through his talents, he could have had billions if he wanted but instead, he used it towards social justice, to make a difference in this world, something most of us could not do.

“Information is power”reads the first sentence of Guerilla Open Manifesto written by Aron Swartz. “…and just like all powers, there are people who want to keep it for themselves.

Swartz believed that knowledge is power and all knowledge must be free and accessible to every single person in this world irrespective of who they are or where they from. All Aaron wanted to do for the world was to bring about public access to the public domain but in return, it brought him so much trouble which ended up in his suicide. Now the US government can argue that they were simply doing their job by investigating fraud. Like Swartz says everything in this world is blinded by grief and power including our right to knowledge.

Latest Blog Post– Not So Much To Check Out

So I’ve posted on my blog for the first time, and I’m still getting used to the whole thing, so bear with me! I’m still trying to get the creative juices flowing!

Me, trying to get those juices flowing | via giphy

You won’t see much in the post, just a quick intro on what the thought process was in creating the site and what I plan on using it for. I mentioned that viewers expect posts related to my interests, daily thoughts and feelings, and nostalgia.

For example, some things on my mind as of late:

  • Mental health, especially during a pandemic
  • Activities I plan on doing during the summer and local places I want to visit in my free time
  • The things we reminisce on from childhood days, whether it be music, TV shows, movies, games, experiences, hobbies, etc.

Essentially, anything that comes to mind, that I may feel obligated to share with the world. I’m choosing these random items because you never know–someone else may have the same ideas and may want to engage in something relatable. So, I’ve created a platform for that and I’m proud of it!

Share your Website’s URL & Some Social Media Fun

Share your Website’s URL & Some Social Media Fun

This week in CT101 we will share and explore each others websites, learn about creating and adding social media content into our posts – (this might be your own work or work taken from your favorite feeds / brands / people) to expand your narratives. We will also chat about “custom links” and how to add them to your websites navigation menu structure. Of course I will record this process during Zoom and post the video here below afterwards.

Here we are 3 weeks into being the proud owners of a shiny new Website! We are customizing our pages, building menu navigation, tweaking colors and fonts, and blogging away into oblivion! It is exciting, and discovering new ways to create and share content are a big part of this process.

**The Assignment for this week: (2 parts)

First: Its time to share your website’s URL, please add it to the comments section below in this blog post (My example is already there as an example, your URL should look similar with your own domain name)

Simply leave a comment below sharing your website’s address and press the “Post Comment” button!

Be sure to include the –  http://  part.   (some of your have added https:// – thats OK too)

Here is an example–>  http://your-website-url.com

This is my example of my website URL – https://ryanseslow.com

Second: Explore some of the website’s of your fellow classmates! Leave them a comment, or two about their progress directly on their website! Then, write a blog post here on CT101 OR on your own new website sharing your thoughts and feedback about discovering your classmate’s websites. Be sure to include their URL in your post (and hyperlink it!) What do you like about the websites that you discovered? Did you find a favorite blog post, or project? Share it! Give some feedback!

And, Why are we doing this?

Well, to share our development, support for each other and their process of course! Maybe your classmates and peers missed your last few posts and are in need of some feedback, inspiration and contrast. Lets dig in!

Part 2 – Adding Social Feeds & Posts to WordPress

Its not that hard! I promise – Its time to talk about the impact of social media and the many roles it can play in our storytelling and blogging practice.

The recording this week will walk you through the process of embedding social media content and related media that you see taken from the class zoom sessions. Please consider adding some of these tips and tricks into YOUR websites posts, pages or sidebar widgets!

Have Fun!

I did it again..

I did it again. I made another blog post on my website. As aforementioned, my website will contain everything you’ve never learned in school about how to finance. This is in the context of stocks, saving money, crypto, credit, etc. Thus blog post I just created is about cryptocurrency and a little background on it. I’m sure you’ve been hearing a lot about bitcoin as of lately. If you want a quick background about cryptocurrency in a non boring and interesting context, go ahead and click THIS  link. I promise you you’ll be impressed about what you learn. After you’ve read the blog post you’ll be disappointed that I didn’t go into further detail, since you’ll be so intrigued. But don’t worry, there is more to come.

Plans for my website

After much deliberation with myself, I’ve decided what I wanted my blog post to be about. My other 2 choices were for it to be about cars and about current events. Here are the reasons why I didn’t choose those ones. I didn’t choose cars to be the main subject of my blog posts because there are already tins of car blog posts on the internet and in order to take full advantage of the blog post I would have to be reviewing cars in person, which I don’t have the time for. As for a blog post about current events, the blog post will basically be like a newspaper. Although there’s nothing wrong with this, I don’t find it an interesting topic.

Now lets get to the good stuff, I choose to revolve my blog posts on “capitalism.” As terrible as that sounds, hear me out. I mean capitalism in the sense of providing people with tips that will help them to succeed in a capitalist society. This includes tips on increasing credit score, money saving tips, financial apps to use, motivational quotes here and there,  tips to maximize the available income that you have and everything else finance related. I think people of my generation can really benefit from this, as this information would be free and available to anyone. Hopefully I can learn how to add ads to the website to make it fund itself, so the website can remain free for all.

My goal is to create a blog post that doesn’t just end once this class is over. I want to create a blog post that I can keep adding onto and make it of benefit to people.  I’m excited to learn how to utilize word press so I can start building this website from the ground up!

Its here……….

A website is like a house.

Word press is like the bricks and cement that forms the foundation ……..

The domain name is like the door and windows ………….

The theme and design are like the furniture ….

And …………

The content is like the food……

However, a house is not a home if no one is living in it ( or if you are living alone)

I hope YOU  can visit …..….

A cup of tea ?

My Website Is Live!

Hello my fellow classmates. I hope you are all doing well with your websites and the customization of them. While mines is still a work in progress, I was able to write a post detailing my plans for the website.

You can check out this post on my site cutsbyjuss.com:

My Plan For This Website

I plan on populating my website with more content soon and making it more user friendly once I learn more about setting everything up through WordPress. Thanks for reading!
