Throughout this semester we have carried out many activities which are very interesting. The first ones that come to my mind right now are: Make your own memes lol, create your own website and learn about gifs. Performing these activities are not so common in the rest of the classes that I have taken. 

What I liked the most about this class was learning. For example, I did not know that the type of images that I like that are seen a lot in electronic music concerts is called “Vaporwave”, I did not know exactly what had happened with Aaron Swartz and what I learned from him helped me see the things differently, I did not know how to do some things in photoshop and here I learned it. So I learned a combination of interesting topics for me, and I think that’s why I liked the class.

About my website, I don’t know if I’m going to keep it. I have a project in mind that I still have to develop and once I do, I might use it to promote it, so I would have to change the whole edition (which is almost nothing at the moment lol)

Currently, my website is very poorly designed, I put a couple of plugins that don’t affect the design but the way of working. My website is inspired by one of my favorite artists who was Avicii. His logo is the current icon for my website and the main image is an image from his album which is a very nice tree which I leave it here…

Something complicated was customizing my website since I had never done it before. I had taken a web page design class but was using a programming language which was HTML. So it was hard for me to learn how to customize my website.

I took four classes this semester, but CT101 was different. In all the other classes the main thing was the content that the professor was going to teach. However, in CT101 it was not only that, but the comfort of the student as well. Sometimes chatting with the student about topics that are not part of the class makes the class have a different mood. In this class I hope to get an A since I have applied all the content learned and I did not miss any class or at least that I remember. And even though I know my assignments weren’t perfect, I tried to do the best I could. There were certain assignments that I did not fully understand since some said for example “customize your web page” and then they said “if you did not do the midterm assignment, so do it” (this is just an example) and as I had already done the assignment of the midterm, I did not publish anything on the blog. But in the end, I really enjoyed this class and many thanks to Prof Seslow.

Have you customized your website yet?
Well, I have to say that I started editing my website the day I created it. I was very clear about how I wanted to edit my website but I have not yet managed to do it and I am still working on it.

I had no experience editing web pages in this way. I learned how to design web pages in HTML sometime ago.

But this way it is easier. LOL

I wanted to make my website a place where I can publicly comment what I think on controversial issues where you can see both sides of the coin in a certain way. And that was the first thing I did, give my opinion of something about Donald Trump.

Adding Social Feeds

Would you add your personal social media to your web-site?
Personally I would not add my personal networks since what I have there are photos of me and personal things. Unlike having a social network that is linked to my website, my personal networks do not have any information that has a relationship with my website.

However, if we do it the other way around, that is, putting your website on your social network can be beneficial since it is a type of marketing and your followers and friends will be able to see what you share on your website.

Now, I consider that there are two types of web pages, those that have an economic purpose and those that do not. So, if your page is about paintings that you have done, I think it is a good idea to put a social network about you since there is curiosity to know who the author is. But if you have a web page where you sell things, I do not consider it appropriate to put your personal web page, instead, it would be very good to create a social network with the name of your web page and promoting the product that your page has.

I think this is the role of a social network related to a web page, carry out some kind of promotion and marketing

Did you like the memes I made in week # 5?
To be honest, I don’t try to make memes that represent how I feel about CT101’s class. I just thought that memes are a bit funny which was a bit complicated for me since I think that memes are like a culture, and I am still learning about American culture.

What I did is basically create my own house in the famous fiction story “Games of Thrones.” I called my house “Bergling”, my motto is “Without mercy, but with honor” and the animal that represents my logo is an owl.

I want to show you everything about this page.

And each option has hundreds hundreds of activities. But my question is how creative they have to be to create hundreds and hundreds of this activities. They have to have a good imagination.

Copyright copyright copyright…

Copyright is a way to protect your work under copyright. This means that no one can use your work without first giving you credit or giving you a share of the earnings if someone is making money with it. 

The subject of copyright is a very controversial subject since there are divided opinions, there are people who agree and people who disagree. Personally, I think copyright law is stupid since it are not interested in protecting the work of authors. Instead, they only want the companies that take over the work like producers, music record  and publishers to benefit. Those who benefit the most are these companies that charge thousands of dollars for “their” works.

**Assignment Option #2

The two quotes I chose are these:

“The Supreme Court only defines fair use as needing to “alter the original with ‘new expression, meaning, or message.’” The lower courts interpreted this to mean that, in order to make fair use of Cariou’s photographs, Prince must “comment on Cariou, on Cariou’s Photos, or on aspects of popular culture closely associated with Cariou or the Photos.””

“The constitution states that the purpose of copyright is to promote the progress of science and useful arts. It was intended to cultivate creativity by letting artists and inventors profit off their work for a limited time. Instead, what has happened as we’ve criminalized some type of creativity and like patents we’ve turned copyright into a weapon.” 

I agree with both quotes. In the first quote it basically talks about giving credit to the original author which Prince did not do. And in the second quote, I think that copyright is like a weapon where those who have the most money benefit and it hurts creative people who try to create and make things better.

Personally I think that if someone uploads a song to the internet, and I use that song to sell it elsewhere, I think that copyright laws should be strong. But if I pick up and use that song for no financial purpose, I think copyright laws shouldn’t be applied

But apart from all, there is another copyright that also sucks, and the right to free information. And to sum up the sentence above, just think about what happened with Aaron Swartz.

I know I have a couple of gif and it is because I think it’s a serious matter since this has the power make a better world with the free information.

 

Hi everyone..

Vaporwave… Like many of you, I had already seen images and videos of that style but did not know that they were called that. I mostly saw these types of images and videos at electronic / dance music (EDM) concerts. DJs use them as background videos in their presentations.

To me, vaporwave is a digital style that is made up of one or many images within a single image. It has bright colors and 3D style figures that create a plus in the image. I hate it? I love it? well, I like it. It is very striking to see these images and especially on video since I am also a big fan of EDM and seeing each movement in the video to the rhythm of the music is amazing.

I created my own vaporwave which is inspired by who was the DJ / Producer Avicii.

Hello everyone. I’m going to leave a couple of comments on the websites of my classmates. First I want to say that in general there is no good or bad design, only with different tastes.

I would say that this web page is about baking cakes and desserts, and I say that because she has an image at the top of her web page a whick, eggs and foam that I don’t know what is to be honest. The design of her page is simple since it only has one image and also uses a white background for the rest of the page. I would recommend adding a bit more colors to make your page more inviting and friendly.

The design of this page has red and black as main colors, which combine very well. However, she also uses the color red in the main title of her page (WHEEL CHAIRBAE The Rolling Rebel) and this makes her title a bit difficult to read as it does not highlight the red with a red and black background. So, I recommend changing the color of the title font. The rest of your page is oriented to the right and leaves its left side empty so I would add something there.

I especially like its design. I find it simple and elegant. As background images it has on social networks like instagram and facebook which makes sense since its website is about digital marketing. I personally think this page is ready to start publishing digital marketing methods to attract more viewers.

Hello everyone..
First I want to say that CT101 is a very different class than I thought it was. Seeing what the class was about, I thought it was a tedious class in which there was a lot of big and boring homework. But from the first day of class I realized that it was different. The energy I felt with the professor was different than what I thought (in a good way).

Main skills mmm… I would say that one of the main things that I have learned in a way is about design and right now I am doing it by customizing my website.

Also, in classes like these, there is a lot of information you can learn and I personally have learned about Photoshop, about gifs, and even about other topics like Aaron Swartz.

What are my strengths so far? To be honest, I don’t know. I think I still need to learn a little about everything.

What do you need to work on and make improvements on?
In this class I have learned that a lot of our work is related to creativity and I think I still need to work on that. We use our creativity either on our website or in the blogs that we do weekly and it is something that I think I need to improve in order to do a better job both in this class and in others.

This class is also a good way to express what you think and feel (Now more throught web pages). So, as a communicator, this class and especially about how the class is, I mean, through blogs, has helped me in that part. It has opened me up more and say what I want.

About the grades, I really don’t know what scores I have hahaha. I hope they are good of course.

Hiiii… I just created my website 😀

It was actually quite easy for me to do it with Professor Seslow’s tutorial. The steps to follow can be a bit confusing due to the number of options there are, but thanks to the video I didn’t get lost and I was able to do it.

It is exciting to know that I have my own website and this thanks to the college and Professor Seslow for the help. The steps are simple, but in one of the options it said “enter your email (for a better process use your personal email as your gmail)” or something like that, I did not know whether to use my York email or my personal email as recommended by the page. In the end use my York email.

Now I have to think about what my website is going to be about, I have a couple of ideas but I’m still not sure. One of them is to criticize songs, since personally I really like very deep lyrics that for some people it doesn’t say anything but for me it says a lot. So I would like to make criticisms of that and also of movies.

Another idea I have is to simply write down the things I think about what is currently happening. For example, talking about things about Covid 19 that I consider important, or things about my country (Ecuador) that I consider are wrong. In short words, say what I think and feel!

Well that’s it, my website is bryalbacg.com. As I explained in the last blog, the name of my page means this: Bry = Bryan (my first name), Al = Alfonso (my second name) and B A C G are the initials of my two name and my two lastnames, and this combination becomes in bryalbacg 🙂

First I want to say that I have already heard about Aaron Swartz and his legacy.

I have always been very curious with topics related to hackers, hacktivists and people related to information technology and a couple of years ago I was doing research on white, gray and black hat hackers, and I came across an article about Aaron Swartz. From my point of view, I knew him more as a hacktivist person who wanted to make the internet a better place with free information about what you want.

The idea that I consider important that Aaron mention is to have free information on the internet (I don’t remember if he said it in the video of “The Internet’s Own Boy” or in an interview since I saw many interviews of him) and it seems very silly that all that information is available only to a certain group of people like us just for being students. I think that if it is learning information, it should be free worldwide.

We as students have access to the college library where we can find millions of verified articles and it is because CUNY has an agreement with copyright owners such as The New York Times. But people who are not students cannot have this information for free.

I was also very interested in Aaron’s law which is about how “digital crime” should be judged since the sentence they gave Aaron was too exaggerated, and this law helps people related to “digital crimes” have a better sentence depending on what they have done.

The downside is that someone always has to die to make a change and leave a legacy in the world as Aaron did it.

Mmm for a domain name…

What would be the name of my website? Mmmm I would say…

The truth is I don’t know, I only have a couple names in my head but I’m not sure which one to use yet.

• The first would be my name and my surname “Bryancardenas.com/net”
• The second option can be “Bryalcg.com/net”
• And the last option could be “Bryalcardenas.com/net”

The first option is very clear to understand, it is my first name and my first surname; the second option has the first syllable of my first name Bryan, the first syllable of my middle name Alfonso and the first letters of my first and second last name Cardenas Garcia. If we put them together, we get Bryalcg. And my last option is like the previous option, a combination of the initials of my two names Bryan + Alfonso = Bryal + my last name = Bryalcardenas. Also, this name Bryal I always use as a username on different platforms such as study programs, or social networks or even video games.

Now, I don’t know what I would talk about on my page. Previously I had a blog in which I published poetry written by me, but this site was anonymous. But now I want to be something different. I would like to criticize songs and movies, but I would like to do it in Spanish. I feel more comfortable writing in this language.

I think memes are art because it has an author and a very important intention behind it (entertain and make people laugh). Also, I consider that art is a way of expressing feelings, and memes make it. There are memes that make you laugh, that make you reflect, that make you think, among others.

I believe that memes are art, but personally I think it should be categorized as the sub-branch of something (I don’t know what specifically). I mean, we cannot compare a DaVinci work which was made from zero with creativity, technique, and hard work to a meme where I can look for an image from the internet and add text to it.

The new trend of seeing and making memes is mostly in young people, but as time passes, a larger group of people are entering this culture.

I think it can be good for art and also a good way to communicate. Memes, like a work of art, can express emotions and feelings that can be equal to or much stronger than a photograph or a painting.

It’s time to go to class … here we go again…

First, when I read about the class, I thought it was going to be a super complicated class with a lot of writing (writing is not for me …) but when I read that we were going to use digital tools to make a digital narrative I found it very interesting. So, after read that the word “design” came to my mind..

Then, with the prefessor’s instructions on how the class was going to be and seeing that one of the purposes of this class is to learn and have a good time, I thought, “mmm yeah, this class is for me!! lol”

I think the most noticeable difference of this class compared to the others is that “creativity” is used much more here. In my other classes there is not much space to put something of your own. Here as in this assignment, there is a lot of creativity since you decide what to put, what to write and what to show and that is something that makes you like the class more.

I hope to learn a lot in this class and develop my creativity further. !!

Internet Internet Internet…

I think everyone in this pandemic had a great friendship with the Internet, I know you used it for many hours a day. Personally I spend a lot of my time in this world either reading, listening to music (someone else listens to music on YouTube? Lol) watching movies or series. A couple of weeks ago I started watching a series called Prison Break.

Prison Break is a series from 2005 and it was the second series that I had seen online and I remember that I liked it a lot, but I no longer remembered what happened in the serie because I had seen it more than 10 years ago. So I wanted to watch it a second time.

Anyway, Prison Break is an American series that stars Michael Scofield. He robbed a bank on purpose to be sent to prison as his brother was in prison on death row. So his plan is to escape with his brother. His brother’s name is Lincoln Burrows (the older brother) and he allegedly killed the brother of the Vice President of the United States. Anyway, the story between the two brothers is very good and I recommend you watch it.
