Week #9 Web Customizing

Hello, is somebody there?

Phone Hello GIF by NBA on ESPN

hey, its me…

Have you customized your website yet?
Well, I have to say that I started editing my website the day I created it. I was very clear about how I wanted to edit my website but I have not yet managed to do it and I am still working on it.

the simpsons GIFI had no experience editing web pages in this way. I learned how to design web pages in HTML sometime ago.

Hack Coding GIF by Matthew ButlerBut this way it is easier. LOL

I wanted to make my website a place where I can publicly comment what I think on controversial issues where you can see both sides of the coin in a certain way. And that was the first thing I did, give my opinion of something about Donald Trump.

After all, I am still working on improving the design and usability of my website. If you want to visit my website with Avicii style, here is the link.

My website

The name of my website is The JRod Lifestyle, this website is not so much of an interactive site but more of a blog site for me to share my adventures and the fun I have on the internet. while sharing blogs on my site I feel like I can inspire more people to live their best life, by sharing things I am passionate about maybe I can inspire others to follow their dreams.

My website makes me feel happy about being on the internet. I have been doing a lot of posts for this course lately but this has not felt like work because I enjoy doing research and creating things on the internet which is why my website has been changing a lot in the past 48 hours, I have shared some posts on my recent trip to the Dominican Republic, I felt like this trip has been in a perfect time because now I have more things to add to my website and not just a plain series of activities that I engage in while I am back in New York, hopefully, I find more things to update my website within the near future.

I have about 4 extra posts on my website just in case someone wants to read them.

CT101 Final Blog Post

Ct101 has been the best/ most interesting class I have participated in since I first became a student in York College. I always thought that online learning was unpleasant but doing the activities you assigned made it easier to adjust, giving me more motivation to complete this course. In this course I learned how to create GIFS however way I want them to be, also having the benefit of using them whenever I would like to.

In one of the classes/ assignments I learned how to create a picture where there was more than one version of myself in a picture. By doing that I introduced this affect to others and now we can use this affect on social media and etc. That was probably the most proud of myself Ive ever been, just transferring what I learned from homework to entertainment for my friends.

Creating the website was what I enjoyed the most during this class. Adding and customizing the site with everything I liked made it even better. Being able to have the opportunity in creating something that I can continue in the future caused this course to be really useful.

I was kind of nervous at first when the professor gave us the responsibility to create the websites because I thought it would be ridiculous and have less characteristics than I thought it would. I honestly stared at the task for so long that it took me a few days to figure out what I wanted to do.

I ended up wanting to use this opportunity to make a website for my fashion sense, politics, and awareness of street art. I always wanted to create some sort of instagram page just for that but creating a website is even more interesting and advanced. The only frustration was trying to show who I am as a person through the the website, making sure the colors blended with the pictures I had up. I couldn’t get it together but towards the end I was able to understand that the theme color had to just remain white. Now my website.

My website  http://macdeesauze.com  is for you if you enjoy the latest fashion trends or if you love art and how its being used in the world today. In the beginning your introduced to a sneaker (my favorite sneakers) as the main picture of the site. While scrolling through the site your exposed to several pictures that describe me: artistic, fun, and a stylist. My post are mixed with content of art pieces Ive seen when just walking around the 5 boroughs and clothes I’ve found unique or straight up a great fashion piece. In the future I will continue using this website to help me network and show others that I am serious about what I do.

To conclude, in this course I believe I deserve the grade of an A because I was committed to this course and I gave everything I could as well. Overall I’ve learned so much and I have been entertained through it all. I was open and excited to learn knew things, as if I was kid waiting to get in the toy store.

Copyright

Copyright gives you the legal right to own everything you publish, copyright keeps people from stealing information from other websites or any other place on the internet. I find copyright to be very helpful for people that want to make sure that they don’t lose their information to other people on other pages trying to steal from them to use the information for their own benefit. We all have to be careful while posting things on the internet because there is a big number of things that can be classified as copyright, but If we are careful we can avoid legal issues involving copyright or any other problems.

Btw, Check out my other blog posts on my website The JRod Lifestyle.

Week #11 Social Feeds & Posts

Hi everyone

Cartoon Hello GIF

Have you been?

Adding Social Feeds

Would you add your personal social media to your web-site?
Personally I would not add my personal networks since what I have there are photos of me and personal things. Unlike having a social network that is linked to my website, my personal networks do not have any information that has a relationship with my website.

However, if we do it the other way around, that is, putting your website on your social network can be beneficial since it is a type of marketing and your followers and friends will be able to see what you share on your website.

Now, I consider that there are two types of web pages, those that have an economic purpose and those that do not. So, if your page is about paintings that you have done, I think it is a good idea to put a social network about you since there is curiosity to know who the author is. But if you have a web page where you sell things, I do not consider it appropriate to put your personal web page, instead, it would be very good to create a social network with the name of your web page and promoting the product that your page has.

I think this is the role of a social network related to a web page, carry out some kind of promotion and marketing

Website’s of fellow classmates!

For this blog post, I chose to look at a gaming and sports website, from the author Clark. I really like that his website has a lot of colors, it caught my eye once I opened his page. Also, the page seems very organized and I liked the use of images especially on the homepage. Unfortunately, there are no blog posts as of yet, but without a doubt, I know that his website will be very popular since a lot of people are into gaming especially in a pandemic where a lot of people focused on their hobbies as we waited until lockdown was lifted. So, I think this website is a great way for people to distract themselves and focus on the entertainment aspect of life.

Next, I viewed Claudia Campos website and I really loved the concept of sharing recipes and having a website to blog about our favorite tasty treats. The images look delicious. I love how warm and inviting the homepage image is with the mug and the smiley face/ cupcakes.  One suggestion I have is, make a video of you making the product to add that personal touch to your website and make your blogs stand out from other blogs. Overall, you did a great job and it all looks sooo good!

WordPress customization Part 1

The first time I was customizing my website I had a hard time figuring out how to organize the menus and what colors to use while I was customizing the first setup of my page. customizing my page with WordPress was interesting because I never used WordPress before and I was trying to work my way around this and it took a little while but once I figured that out I started working harder on the website and got more work done faster.

My first image for the website was giving it a retro look and make it look as interesting as possible and it was fun to play a little with the themes and different formats that it had to make it as vivid as it could get. The themes could get very confusing at times when it comes to customizing but that is the fun of it, to figure out how it works and how to make sure everything stays in place.

Week #6 Meme & Project Flexibility

Hii everyone

Macaulay Culkin Hello GIF by filmeditor

Did you like the memes I made in week # 5?
To be honest, I don’t try to make memes that represent how I feel about CT101’s class. I just thought that memes are a bit funny which was a bit complicated for me since I think that memes are like a culture, and I am still learning about American culture.

Project Flexibility
If you don’t know about my project of flexibility, you can check my assignment #4 Here

What I did is basically create my own house in the famous fiction story “Games of Thrones.” I called my house “Bergling”, my motto is “Without mercy, but with honor” and the animal that represents my logo is an owl.

I want to show you everything about this page.

And each option has hundreds hundreds of activities. But my question is how creative they have to be to create hundreds and hundreds of this activities. They have to have a good imagination.

Personally, I like the activities of “Visual Assignments” and these are some of them:

You can see which you like it..and leave here in the comments which one you prefer.

Social media and posts page

For these pages, I have some content but not a lot, for my post page I have planned to add pictures of cities I have visited, blog posts explaining some of the things I saw in a certain part of the city or the world, and I want to add videos of the top view of the city.

The social media part of my website is not going to have a separate page but it is added to the top of the page so that people could find it easier and find ways to communicate with me.

This is what it looks like now since I have not added a lot to the page but in the next weeks, I will add pictures of my following trips to the Caribbean.

Copyright

What is Copyright!!??

What You Must Know About Copyrights - LAWS.com

Copyright is a legal form of protection for an author’s work. It is a sort of intellectual property. In simple words, any type of content can be protected through copyright. It provides exclusive publication, distribution, and usage rights of the author. Copyright law helps talented authors, the exclusionary right to make and sell copies of their works, the right to spin off their works, and the right to spectacle their works to the public. The categories of work that can be protected by the copyright laws are books, songs, films, paintings, photographs, software, and poems.

The quote I like from the Larry Lessign TED talk is “The war against illegal file-sharing is like the churches age old war against masturbation. It’s a war you just can’t win”

Mid semster reflection

This first half of the semester has been great, I have been feeling a little down with the fact that we have to take classes from home, and just being stuck here all day makes me feel overwhelmed with all that is happening.  This course is one of those things that takes my mind off of things that make me feel stressed or upset. During these last weeks, I have been feeling more determined to give my best when it comes to my college courses because I have not been doing my best since the schools shut down and we had to move to distance learning.

The creation of my website was a task that I really enjoyed, I have put a lot of hours into the customization of my website but is not yet as great as I want it to be but as far as I keep working on it I can improve the issues with the page outline and features.

My website is a little empty at the moment because I have no idea what to do with it but I am hoping soon I can figure it out.

I meant to post this reflection a while ago but I forgot it in my archives while I was doing it and never finished it. but I do want to add that the first half of the semester was amazing, I learned a lot about how to navigate the web on a whole new level, and about how the internet is more important than people come to realize. It is a way of creativity that gives everyone their own ideas on how they want to express their thoughts or feelings. This course and the creation of this website are things that have kept me excited about college throughout this past weeks and hopefully I can keep doing better by the end of the semester.

My domain name

When I was choosing my domain name I was debating on what to choose because I had so many ideas but then I came to realize that the name for my website should be what defines me, not really as a person but my internet identity, I named my website ojrod.com  because this is basically me, I came up with JRod as my internet identity in high school and since I liked the ring it added I decided to make it my persona for everything online that I own. This username is personal to me because it is made from my initials and part of my last name, which I found to be pretty cool. That is the idea behind my website address and the creation of it.

“The Internets Own Boy: Reflexion”

This film was painful yet fantastic to watch, I feel like this film should be used as an example for people that wants to take away our rights. The internet is where we can find our freedom from the real world, we have so much to explore, and helps us be who we are.  People should not be denied the right to express themselves freely on the web or in the streets.

The story of Aaron Swartz is a story that sets an example for everyone in the world. it was amazing how he was such an intelligent guy, and not just intelligent as in book smart, but intelligent in his life choice, he decided to give people a place on the internet to express themselves like they wanted to. the sad thing is that he paid a high price for this. but this gives us all a lesson, it tells us that if you believe in something and you have a passion for it then nothing can stop you.

Final Blog Post

We have come to the end of the semester. Who would’ve thought I would actually miss taking a course?

CT-101 will be definitely be marked as one of my favorite courses throughout my college journey. Not because there were no exams (even though that contributed to the course’s likeability), but because I am walking away from this class having learned so much and learning was not a burden.

One of the first things we learned to do was make memes and gifs. I think this was my favorite part of the class as it gave me access to a world that I was trying to get into for so long.

The “Yes, baby” perfectly described my reaction when I made my first meme. It was such a simple task but after trying for so long and FINALLY being successful, gave me such a feeling of accomplishment. For memes, the recommended site to make memes was Imgur but for some reason, I did not quite like this site. I felt like there were not enough empty memes, and so that search time prolonged my time in making a meme. So instead, I found myself using Imgflip quite often.  This site is very easy to navigate and making a meme from this site is easier than counting to 5. I’d definitely recommend it for anyone that wanted to dabble in memes.

Next, came the gifs. If you looked at any of my posts, you would see how much gifs I inserted into my posts. This time, I used the recommended site, Giphy, and it has been my favorite gif making site. This site is also very easy to navigate and I love the plethora of gifs that they have. I think I’ve made more gifs than I should have but that will not stop me from continuing to do so…it’s become too fun to stop now.

One other great opportunity that this class has afforded us was the opportunity to make our own website. Before this class, I had already had an existing website for blog posts (feel free to check it out- https://shanaeharte.wixsite.com/website). And though I love this site dearly, I was excited to create a new website that would focus on a more serious subject.

And from that, came the birth of straighttalkwithkysa. The idea for the website was formed before taking the course but the course helped me bring the idea to life. My ‘Straight Talk with Kysa’ episodes features “talk shows” of me discussing social issues- mainly violence against children.

In a previous blog post, I wrote about all the ways I customized my site. The main thing to see on the site are the 2 episodes of STWK that I have filmed (which can also be found on ThriceAnointed‘s page on Youtube.) Because this course doubles as my honors course, I wanted to do more than expected for the class- so as to meet the requirements for the program.

So, there will be more episodes uploaded on the site, hopefully soon. But, even after the semester ends, I plan to continue recording films and uploading them to the site. The goal is to eventually build a recognizable brand that will raise awareness for violence against children around the world and will hopefully, decrease the levels of violence acts committed against children.

The skills learned throughout this semester will definitely be used as I continue to grow my site. I never want my website to become monotonous- it must always be engaging and inviting. So, even if there is a week where I cannot post a video, a blog post filled with all the learned elements from this course should suffice.

Now to discuss grades…

Not to be cocky, but I think I’ve safely secured an A in this class. I remember being scared to take this class because I was not tech savvy, and I cannot safely say that I am all the way tech savvy now, but I believe I accepted every challenge that was given and executed it well. Hopefully, the professor feels the same way about all my produced work.

Undoubtedly, this has been an amazing course and I am definitely going to miss seeing all of you guys’ posts. I don’t want to say goodbye, so for now…

“culture where creativity was consumed but the consumer is not a creater. A culture which is owned with the “vocal cords” of the milions have been lost.”

Larry Lessig

This quote really made me think about the unfairness of media. Its crazy how one can steal ones creativity. I never though of it like that.

I think users of the web should consider the problems of sharing things thats to not belong to them. I will honestly say that when I reshare content, I do not consider the problems and the inequalities that comes from  it. However, I believe that the “big” influncers like intstagramers or youtubers should definitely consider it because alot of people are watching their content and would probably think that everthing they share belongs to them, when in reality it does not. Thats inequality and unfair! Imagine someone taking your property! Fair use is certainly not this!
