My overall experience with creating an account and setting up a domain…

This class is quite challenging,at least for me,
particularly when I have assignments without deadlines.
I often find myself postponing these tasks because they don’t seem as urgent or important as others with clear due dates. Additionally, without a deadline, it’s difficult for me to prioritize this task over others. I typically organize my time around deadlines, so lacking one complicates effective time management.
Another significant issue is maintaining motivation. Deadlines usually propel me to complete tasks, but in their absence, especially if the assignment is tough or uninteresting, sustaining momentum can be a struggle.
A lack of deadline also leads me to strive for perfection in my work, to the point where I never consider it finished. I risk spending too much time pondering or planning, and not enough on the actual work.
Moreover, uncertainty about when to ideally complete the task can induce worry or stress, particularly since I function better with clear guidelines and deadlines.
When it comes to mid-semester and final reviews, grading myself is an immensely stressful experience. Being responsible for assigning my own grade and justifying it is daunting. I choose classes based on my major requirements or because they seem enjoyable, but self-grading heightens my anxiety as I feel compelled to demonstrate learning.
Although I don’t believe I learned nothing this semester, reflecting on what I’ve truly gained from it is quite stressful.
I think I deserve an ‘A’ because I never gave up on myself or on blogging, even though it was incredibly challenging (torture) for me.
About the website thanks for the coupon
Just kidding
I am fully committed to maintaining and improving my new website.
I plan to repurpose it as a portfolio. However, I’m likely to move away from using WordPress. Instead, I’m considering options like Svelte or React, which are technologies I genuinely enjoy working with.

Although I’m not particularly enthusiastic about WordPress,
I must acknowledge its user-friendliness and accessibility for beginners. It’s an excellent choice for those who aren’t familiar with coding, offering an easy entry point into website creation. However, my preference leans towards coding from scratch because it grants me full control over the development process.
The creation of my domain is an exciting time because now I can explore the options that a domain has. Customization is important to the domain because it gives the domain a personality. Who wants to be dull and generic nowadays?
Customizing your domain is not difficult at all. After watching the class recording, it became simple to customize my domain. Anything you do does not have to be flashy but having a personality is always a key in anything you do.
To start off. As are professor said on this assignment time goes by wayyy too fast..
As for how Im doing in Ct101 I feel as though ive been in a lot of hating myself for not making it to class as much as I am supposed to due to emotional things happening in my family. I will say though that Mr Seslow’s videos and flexibility with being able to allow us to work home is really sweet.
Out of these 5 I will be using TheBluBlog.com, and my website will be in a blog style a blog featuring his pictures, stories, and tips for pet care catered toward people with yorkshire terriers. I am super excited to see what the future holds for this domain and as always have a great day everyone!
The time has come…and gone…but NOW we’re going to to talk about it.
Registering a domain name and creating a website that we could use for anything? Who wouldn’t enjoy doing that? I know I definitely enjoyed the process in class even though I experienced some minor hiccups…
Before I get my mistakes…let’s talk about what I did well. I’m happy to report that I followed all the steps during the tutorial in class with Ryan, however, seeing as I didn’t take screenshots throughout the process so sadly I don’t have documentation of my process registering my domain :(.
Here we go again with another late blog post.. My baddd
Anyways I was compelled to create more art anime looking pages that pertain to myself. The theme of my first page is basically just random pixel arts of my favorite anime with a giant eyeball. The image in the background is ai generated which is crazy.
The quote I used come from one of my favorite memes actually which is..
My inspiration for the my first page also comes from two of my favorite movies “Who framed Roger Rabbit” and “Space Jam” which mixes cartoons with reality. Which is why I put in characters like rye, goku, and even sonic!
As I am right now I feel kind of defeated lol. I feel as if the sun is pulling me in in an infinite void of space. This page really brings that emotion ive been feeling.. But apart from that this blog post was really fun and I hope you enjoyed. Im actually going to use my second page as a wallpaper because I really like the way it looks.
It has been about a month, so it’s a little past mid-semester. (After editing it again today, this is way overdue…)
CT 101 has been a very interesting class, It got me to think a lot about the future, what to think about when approaching the digital aspect of life, and what it can be used for. I haven’t been spending time on my classes, my brain has wanted to stay numb and distracted the past few days. Honestly, to even start writing this took me about 2 hours. It is so hard for my brain sometimes, and as I’m writing this it’s almost like my body’s also getting ready for sleep…
I’m happy about learning how to utilize the web, as I hear news of how Spotify and other streaming platforms won’t be paying artists unless they meet certain conditions. So it’s cool learning how to build my webpage where I can control the streaming, distributing, and purchasing of my music. I can do things I learned here, such as hyperlinks and embedding things into my website or even blogging on things that I feel my opinion matters.
As for the general things I know how to use, I grew up on the computer—mostly making things like my mmm.page, or realizing different ways to utilize my love for music other than music but using the same technology to create stories and perhaps soundboards.
As far as passing or failing, I’m sure I will pass the class. I don’t know what letter grade I deserve but I always submit for an A. My effort physically may not match that, but when I pull myself I happen to deliver quality in my opinion. However, this assignment itself deserves a 50, it was submitted late along with some other things. I lack comments on my peer’s work so that on its own is a minus 10-15 % of my final grade, I say 10 because I did some but not all.
Honestly, I’m unsure why I stopped submitting after the last assignment. It takes me so long to start again, but after missing this one I’m missing all the ones that are after this. Honestly, I’ve accepted that maybe I won’t pass all my classes this semester. I don’t even know if I deserve to graduate after all the time I wasted not working on school. I’m absent, I barely comment, and I submit late work. I clearly in my eyes am not an ideal student at all. I have this guilt but I’ve been pushing myself to finish, I have to try.
My works have their character based on what I am being told to accomplish but there has definitely been a big change from the first post, and I am looking forward to completing the ones below. However, I do say this one lacks luster compared to my other post.
So let me get to work, by the end of this I am now writing and flowing freely as opposed to the mental strength it took to get started. *sigh*
These are the assignments I’m missing, 9 & 10 (but have been working on)
& These are my previously submitted assignments 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
Yay! I must say, I am super excited about my new WordPress website. While I can’t speak for anyone else, as a senior, my stress levels are through the roof right now. I realized I didn’t have a proper portfolio showcasing all my published work. That’s where my website, lkedoo.com, comes in. I created it as a platform to share my story and showcase my work. Lkedoo.com
The first page features a painting of me, with a bag in my hand which represents my Journalistic nature. The two mountains in the horizon are the Blue Mountain Peaks in Jamaica and a representation of my heritage.
I decided that I wanted to stick with the 2024 WordPress best Theme which minimalistic approach since I will be using this for professional reasons.
The page that links to my second page is my portfolio which I will be adding my work into. Especially articles that I have written and should house future articles. The link to the second page
Overall, I was stressed out about the process. But after getting it done. I felt like I accomplished a lot and a step closer to my ultimate goal which also includes a ask Kedoo bar, in the future, users will be able to ask me questions directly.
I also added in some interesting facts and stuff to make my page more cohesive.

Welcome Back!
Class recording from 11/28 is below
Let’s get a bit more specific with WordPress and begin to apply intentional context to our website design. Last week we started setting up our new websites by simply discussing the potentials of the visual design creation and experimentation process. We dug in a lil’ – but let’s move forward and focus on this here this week.
Let us now talk about how to set up new pages, and how to add those pages to the main navigation menu. We will discuss the navigation menus locations and what their functions were. We will look at the footer space and adding widgets in the footer areas. We also took a peek into “plug-ins” and installing plug-ins (especially the Classic Editor for the similar blogging experience we see on the ct101 site for writing our posts) and the differences between pages, posts & categories.
This is quite a bit of information and I highly suggest that you re-watch the class video tutorial from last week for the practice of retaining the new skills that were shared and displayed. I do this very often myself as I find it super helpful for being able to replicate a new skill or technique.
This all takes regular practice and a bit of openness to experimentation in general. How did you do with your experimenting last week? What did you work on? You can leave a comment below on this post and share the link to your new site :))) – WordPress is a very intuitive piece of software, and it wants your creativity!
Let’s continue forward. I will be sharing a new series of demonstrations with WordPress this week.
**This Week’s Blogging Assignment Prompt is Optional**
Let’s begin populating our new websites by publishing a new blog post there. Thats right, You can publishing a new post on YOUR website and also “cross-post” that information here on CT101 as well. There is an efficient way to cross-post content across WordPress websites.
I will show you how.
Lets say you just published a great new blog post on your new website and you also want to share it with your classmates / community here on the CT101 website. (You can! Its easy)
Step 1 – is to publish the new blog post on your website. Remember, every blog post has its own unique URL that can be later shared on other places and space on the Internet.
An example of cross sharing your post on may be done in a new post on CT101 that reads:
————
Your Blog Post Title (all blog posts need a great title!)
(insert an image – GIF – Meme – Quote – or some kind of related media)
“Dear Fellow Readers – I just published a new blog post here on my website: http://yourwebsitename.com, (make sure to hyperlink the post url) please come and check it out and feel free to engage in some fun dialog. Thanks so much”
————
This is a very minimal example above but perhaps just a title and a link is not that interesting? We need a bit of compelling energy to draw the reader from CT101 over to your site. So make this interesting and creative!
**This Week’s Blogging Assignment Prompt is Optional**
Publish a NEW blog Post on YOUR new website, the post can be about anything that you wish that has direct context to your new website’s stated intentions (what your site is being used to promote and share.) After publishing the post, create a new blog post here on CT101 that shares a synopsis of your new post from your website that will entice and grab our attention, be sure to include the direct URL as a hyperlink to the new blog post.
PS – WordPress is really vast and there are many many tutorials out there for “WordPress beginners” – Perhaps YouTube is a helpful source for finding some new resources outside of class? Of Course! Here is one, but feel free to share links to others that you have explored (add the link to the comments section below.)
okay so we’re a little past the middle of the semester but better late than never, right?
to be 100% honest, i would probably, at this very moment in time, grade myself at around a C+ in this class because i have missed quite a few lectures (although I have been assured its not the end of the world 🙂 ) and am also missing some assignments. i am missing assignments 6, 9 and 10. but as far as 9 and 10 go, i already have my domain up and running, i just need to write my posts for the ct101 site.
when i upload my missing assignments i think i will be deserving of a high B or an A in the class as even though my blog posts are late, they are of good quality. i try my best to follow the prompts and incorporate a lot of media and hyperlinks and i also try to grow my posts with every submission.
if you want to see my old posts, you can find them here, and here, and here, and here, and here. 🙂
now that we got that out of the way, here are some thoughts about the class:
now let’s talk about my website:
obviously, i have already picked a domain name which was lubaslanguagequest.com
this was not my first idea for it though, obviously. my first thought for my website name was lubaslinguistics.com and then i thought of linguisticswithluba.com (i should probably tell you at this point that luba is a nickname of mine most of friends call me)
but i felt limited by both of those options- what if i did not want to write about just linguistics but just about language? then i moved to options to like languagewithluba.com or lubaslanguagecorner.com i liked the direction i was heading towards but still unsatisfied then i went from corner to quest and was still unsure about but i ended up going with it.
i like the decision i made because it gives me the flexibility to make the blog posts about whatever i want in the scope of language. the way i see it, my quest is to not only teach others on the internet about language but also to learn myself. my “quest” can encompass all aspects of learning a language- posts about grammar rules, posts about my opinion of languages or linguistics, tips for studying etc.
none of that feels off limits for me because i did not pick such a confining domain name whereas if i stuck with lubaslinguistics.com, i would not have such creative freedom.
i am currently working on two posts; one about a polyglot’s language learning method and one about the intricacies of polish grammar. i am very excited and will keep you guys posted as to when they are up.
byeeeeeee!
My overall experience with creating an account and setting up a domain wasn’t too bad. In fact, not complicated at all. I was able to follow the steps in the class recording and everything went smoothly. I find it cool that students are able to own their domain. Students can use their domain in so many ways such as blogging or content creation. Having your own domain can be like a work resume with your all creations in just a click of a button
There were many different routes that I could’ve chosen in terms of selecting a domain name. I was able to choose a domain name that would be easy to remember and easy to type. I wanted a domain name that wasn’t anything fancy and I was able to come up with this domain name – http://williammejia25.com Now I am normally not the type to add numbers to a domain name because the name may not be aesthetically pleasing but it fit well to my liking.
I find it to be a truly exciting time for students to own their domains because of the amount of work they can share on their websites. It is truly creative freedom. I was able to download WordPress to my domain and now I have access to the control center which can be a useful tool.
Add Your Domain Name to the Comments Section Below!
Hello CT101 Students – > Due to the York College High IT WiFi Security and Firewall on campus – they require us to submit to them a list of our domains to be whitelisted as “safe”..
If you plan on working on your website whilst on campus (in the lab or other areas of campus) please add your domain below to the comments section below – I added my domain as an example. It generally takes the IT Dept. 48-72 hours to make this happen – so the sooner you add your domain, the faster I can share it with them.
Thank You!
well… i finally bit the bullet. i have been putting off this assignment forever and a day! i have even started working on posts for my website already but this assignment has sat untouched for weeks because in all honesty, it intimidated me- it seemed like a lot to take on. i found an exercise i liked a while ago but was so afraid to execute it.
for my first creation, i went with a prompt i saw on the daily create- it was the prompt posted on november 2nd: design a birthday cake to commemorate marie antionette’s birthday.
Not to flex or anyhting but before this I was in Photography 101 with Ms Formica. She is literally just like the professor we have now for ct101 very understanding and easy going! Anyways to get to the point here is what i Started off with this.
I then took another photo like thiss
