When it comes to building my own website, which is a great concept I’ve had unfortunate issues. Mainly what my Domain name was gonna be. This is because I originally had no idea what was gonna be on the website. I had a few ideas for non-specific domain names that have no ties to anything in particular. The following domain names were
thiswebsitedoesnotexist
thisisnotawebsite
But ultimately, these domain names were taken so I obviously could not use them. This meant I REALLY had to think it over
I eventually found a domain name that works, is not specific as I’m not 100% sure what is going to be on the website and it was taken. This domain name is https://randomnessabyss.com
Add Your Domain Name to the Comments Section Below!
Hello CT101 Students – > Due to the York College High IT WiFi Security and Firewall on campus – they require us to submit to them a list of our domains to be whitelisted as “safe”..
If you plan on working on your website whilst on campus (in the lab or other areas of campus) please add your domain below to the comments section below – I added my domain as an example. It generally takes the IT Dept. 48-72 hours to make this happen – so the sooner you add your domain, the faster I can share it with them.
Growing up when I was in elementary school I always wanted to have my own website like how Disney and Nickelodeon has their own. Fast forward a a few years later here I am creating potential names for my website. As a young girl when I would log on to the computer or laptop at home my go to websites were Club Penguin, Stardoll, CoolMathGames, GirlsGoGames, and Poptropica. Majority of these websites are used for creating characters to play games, interact with people from all over the world, and complete quests or challenges.
The potential domain names I came up with are: Yafavva, LilBrownTing, YafaveA, and YafaveC
All of these domain names I listed all relate to my name and instagram accounts. Out of all the social media outlets Instagram has to be favorite and most used.
My website would be about a couple things but mainly some of my favorite recipes, skin care products, nail art, makeup brands, and song playlists. Since my favorite color is pink I would probably use various shades of pink and create collages with photos and videos of the products I’d like to share. I’m excited to see where this website will take me and be able to use platforms to create various forms of media.
I did it in the reverse order haha. But here’s a before and after.
First, I edited the title, then added a quote on invigoration. A trait that fuels me in life. Added a profile picture of me and inserted my links to my media. Then I changed the color palette to something I thought would be smooth and give a calm vibe. Then I added a Polish flag for representation purposes. Lots to tackle, but I reckon a solid start.
I REALLY like the placement of all my components thus far. The contrast between the original template and what it is now is staggering.
I really rate the vision so far. I wanted to personalize it. I had trouble accessing it as finding it after I installed WordPress the option to edit was tough. Only for a certain amount of time.
I think this site will be GREAT to promote some of my work, be it soccer montages, interviews with peers and friends, or my essays and papers I’m most proud of. That’s the vision so far. I aim to put my dissertation on sports loyalty and gentrification paper I wrote for example.
Also the networking possibilities will be tremendous. I still need the confirmation link to be sent to me, anyone else having that delay? Bit worried.
An internet website’s domain is its distinctive name or address. In essence, it serves as a physical location’s street address online. The actual domain name, which is typically chosen to reflect the brand or purpose of the website, and the extension, which identifies the type of organization the website represents (e.g.,.com for commercial,.org for organization,.edu for educational institutions, etc.), make up a domain name. With the help of QuillBot’s paraphraser, you can rapidly and effectively rework and rephrase your content by taking your sentences and making adjustments!
A domain name is significant for a personal website for a number of reasons. In the beginning, it aids in creating a distinct online identity and makes it simpler for users to remember and access the website. Additionally, it lends the website a degree of professionalism and legitimacy, particularly if the domain name is directly connected to the site’s goal or content. This is especially crucial for people who use their personal website for work, like job seekers or independent contractors. What you want altered should go here. After that, click the button below. It’s that simple!
Additionally, since a personalized domain name makes a website simpler to find online, it might aid in search engine optimization (SEO). A domain name that is simple to recall and pertinent to the website’s subject matter can also enhance the possibility that users will recommend the site to others, boosting traffic and broadening the website’s audience. In general, a domain name is an essential part of any personal website because it contributes to the development of a credible online identity.

Thanks to Jour’s quick blog post tutorial, Ilvea’s help in class, and Professor Ryan’s video explaining what to do, I was able to set up my website easy-peasy with Reclaim Hosting.
As of now, my website is blank now with no customizations but I plan on treating it like a public journal. I’m not going to post anything personal on there but just blog about things that I’ve done throughout the day or the week and even some of my personal interests. I’ll also recommend and share some things.
Since I’m currently writing this blog post in school the website is blocked so I’m not able to fully customize it or do anything yet. But once I get home I will do some exploring and play around with it a bit. I’m very excited!
So, we’re picking our domain names I see. I only had two in mind but I’ve been brainstorming over spring break. The two I had in mind were:
trxnax
tr3na3
Trxnax was the name I came up with for all my sims related social media accounts. It’s a unique name that I love so much. However, I did not choose that name due to the fact that it’s related to something outside of my class time. Yes, in my past blogs, I mention Sims and my Sims profiles a lot. But I don’t want to name a “school” related project after a hobby I do outside school.
So instead, I went with tr3na3. My name is Trenae and I replaced the E’s in my name with 3’s because a 3 looks like a backwards E. I got this idea from an old gaming website I used to play on called Poptropica. It’s a website where you can travel to islands and play problem-solving stories. I thought back to this one island I played where the in-game character had a note on her desk and it said something along the line of “to make a strong password you should replace some of the letters with numbers”. Which is where I got my inspiration from.
For my new domain I want to design it around being the hub for social interaction and the exchanging of ideas under the umbrella of my main line SafeHaven. With that in mind I present you safehaventhinks.com
I want it be a small glimpse into my ideas while also keeping a similar dark aesthetic to the brand. For the social aspect I was going to add either BlaB or phpMyChat but, Im leaning more towards phpMyChat since its open source allowing for more interactivity.
After watching the feature video for wordpress Twenty Twenty-Three, I decided that would be my best option in terms of wordpress customization. The other options I searched through on reclaim hosting didn’t offer as many features.
so I have a website and I know what I want to do. I want to help promote my account on Instagram and also help promote another artist the first thing I will work on is editing how my site will look
. I have art from artists friends and Colabs I’ve done and everything I made from edits to pictures to videos—the background first changes by using my logo to start all in. For others thing on it I’m gonna, of course, publish blogs that are there and relate to some of my work, and for some that don’t I will have sections separate so they don’t overlap unless needed in a way that fits and once that done.
I will post the link to my website and share it with my friends and the world and they shall know it was done by me and it is good.
Using Reclaim Hosting was very straightforward and FREE :))))))
Uncle Joey is coming to remind us!!
But just when I thought I had it all figured out with my domain name … I couldn’t access it … an error message kept coming up so then Prof. Ryan said to try it at home because it could of been an error at school (AN I.T PROBLEM). I came home tried it and it still didn’t work …
So then I emailed the genius himself! Prof. Ryan! he said to submit a ticket to Reclaimhosting.com and now I am just waiting on them to respond back. Hopefully I can get this resolved and start working on my website.
This week in CT101 we will be focusing on getting everyone set-up with their new websites! The coupon code that you need was sent last week to your York college e-mail address (please e-mail me if you did not receive it).
By now, many of you got started, you have a new domain name, a web hosting account, and a blank / default website framework ready to be customized and stylized!
I’ll be helping here with the customizing process of WordPress. This part will have multiple aspects to it.
There is a lot to share, create, experiment with and test!
The process is fun and will take a few weeks as you make several aesthetic and functionality decisions about how you would like your website to look.
This will all play out in context to “how” you plan to use your new website. Not only as a new site owner, but looking into the future as well.
So, how will you be using your new website?
Assignment #10 – This week let’s dig into some of the customizing features that WordPress offers as we begin to design our new websites.
What will you work on first? Will you create a series of new pages? Will you remove default content from your theme? Customize the home page? Publish a blog post? Will you create a category or two? Add plug-ins? Changes colors?
Let’s publish a NEW blog post that shares a narrative statement about your process and discoveries, as well as HOW you will be using your new website as we go forward. You can publish this post on the CT101 class site. Please don’t forget to embed various pieces of media (images, screenshots, gifs, hyperlinks) and also share contextual content to help expand your post.
**For example, there are many video tutorials on YouTube that share “how-to” videos for beginners, or customizing videos for the theme that you will be using, this is context 🙂
I will continue to make and record class videos and also share some helpful curated content from the Internet. We will be discussing HOW we will all be using our websites individually, just to mention again 🙂
Im going to focus on using one of the newest and popular WordPress themes called: “Twenty-Twenty-Three” – WordPress themes are extremely versatile and are great for WordPress newbies and beginners. I highly suggest that you consider using the theme that I share. All themes are different, and many of them out there promoted on the Internet are not free (plus, its always helpful to start with a theme that has a good amount of video documentation that already exists.)
More to come!
PLEASE E-MAIL me and say hello, let me know how I can help you! [email protected]
Thinking of a domain name wasn’t too difficult but all I did was put my name and an initial then went to town on my keyboard to get a good name that wasn’t taken.
luiss22
luiss1273
luiss1615281
Just a massive array of numbers to make sure it wouldn’t be taken. If I had any idea what my website would have, I’d like for it to be something close to a collection like Pinterest. It’s nice being able to find cool ideas and organize everything so that way you don’t have trouble finding something you need.
It’s going to be fun to experiment with your own website and make it to how you like it to be.
You will see: “Client Area Student/ Personal Plan.”
Follow the red arrows in steps 1 -8 of flow chart.

Well, my domain and website are up! Yay! Feeling a sense of accomplishment!!
The domain for my website stayed from assignment #8. Polishprincepalace.com. Was adamant of keeping it and stayed, it did. In the end I thought .com was cleaner than .net. I didn’t want my website to seem archaic.
It was a relatively simple process, made sure to email the professor my confirmation email as back up.
I’m intrigued at the prospect of this website truly! I am sure it will evolve in the last weeks we have as a class.
I’ll include some more screenshots of my process through signing up and creating the site here.
As for downloading WordPress, it was a bit tricky but all’s well that ends well. Used some will power and made it happen! The step by step video was fundamental to my success there!
Let’s make some amazing and spectacular websites! I know I’m ready to design and formulate a phenomenal one! #Enthusiasm
