so IT HAS BEEN DONE I HAVE MADE A WEBSITE   and it was a way thing once I had help at first i thought my name was taken which was weird cause I invited the name nixck Woelf but then the teacher told me I can’t use spaces which should be obvious and I feel dumb for nothing thinking that in the first place.

BUT I DID IT YATTA.

first, we went to check if the site was available on reclaim hosting  then we went to word press to make our own site and that was it done and done.

I’m going, to be honest when I thought of domain names only a few came to mind since I didn’t think much of them for I knew they would be there and not be used.

the first names that came to mind were def not the names I was born with but ones I use and identify with for sometimes I hate my name.

2. The Nixck Woelf den
3. THE NIXCKWOELF EMPIRE
4. or The Royal Empire

the royal empire name  I got the idea from a picture edit I did  a year ago:

and the ones with the name nixck woelf in it I got the idea for that’s me and I have my logo for there are different versions of me and everyone has that one side you show to ya family and one you show to your friends or your love. nixck woelf is me.

so on my site, I know exactly what I wanted and wanted to share this with my friends so that they can make their websites too but on my site, I wanna share pics of me as nixckwolef all the edits  I did and fan art of nixckwolef that drew tell who they are what they represent like its a whole fan page. in other words, it’s all about me.

I didn’t have many domain names in mind honestly. But here are the ones I did have in mind…

1.AliyahJohnson ( just because it’s my name,very simple and easy) taken unfortunately my name is basic

2.Aliyahnicole(also my name i wanted to stick to things I would remember)

3.Alinetwork.com( i have no idea why I thought of this one, I was thinking of television and this is what popped in my head.

Part of me is nervous because there are so many hackers and things like that, but another part of me is excited to learn a new skill.

I have zero ideas on what I want my website to be about, I have a few ideas on how I want it to look, something minimal so that there isn’t too much going on. I did look on Pinterest for a few website ideas.

I’d like mine to look something like this just more pink than brown or maybe a mixture of both. I’m excited to put a creative spin on my website.

Assignment 6-Digital Immediacy

Creativity is… being able to express yourself  using your imagination

Immediacy is…how quick you are to act when anything comes up

Intuition is… something you feel in your gut. in other words a gut feeling

In what order do these words go?

Creativity +immediacy+ intuition… In that order

Being alive means going with the flow and not stressing too much about the things that pop up in life, or even if you have a “plan” in life being able to go where life takes you and enjoying it. Rejoicing when the “bad” times occur. learning to dance in the rain. That’s what it means to be alive.

For the project i ended up using mmm.page, it was alot easier for me to navigate and way more user Friendly in my opinion.

The first thing I did was choose the pictures I wanted to work with, I started off basic just by picking images that showed my favorite color is pink.

Once I got all the pictures I wanted, I played around with how I wanted it to show up. It was partially difficult because I had to crop most of the pictures so they could fit on cellphones as well. But once I got it down here is the finished product. I can’t promise that I’ll use it again unless it’s for class but I did enjoy making something that shows a little something about me.

How awesome is this … we are working on building our own website! a lot of us have goals and dreams of becoming entrepreneurs, so this is literally the best thing ever, we will have complete control over it! we could add, redesign and do as we please with our website and content — after we register our domain name. Now the hard part is …. what domain name do I want?! I am into so many things .. I don’t know where and how to start.

I do want it to be along the lines of wellness, yoga, keywords used in yoga, but definitely wellness related like self-care, self-love that is what I am all about. Let’s see what my top five name ideas are:

Before spring break week we began talking about Domain Names and what role they play in creating a digital identity on the web (and as a part of this class.) If you missed that post, please be sure to check out our course schedule page under week #9 as it has context and will help make this next step a bit smoother. 

This week we are going to get started!

We are going to begin the process of registering a domain name and also setting up web hosting, which will allow you to put files up online that will be discoverable through your new domain name! We are going to use a form of ‘shared hosting’ where you get a portion of a server – think of it as having an apartment in a building. With this shared hosting you will be able to do a lot of things including installing your own instance of WordPress (**remember, this is NOT wordpress.com but the open source version of wordpress.org) so that you can start building your website for your domain name. I will walk you through the steps that are needed, please follow my exact steps.

We use a company called Reclaim Hosting, with which we have a contract with so you will enter a coupon code and start your account for free.

*The coupon code will be e-emailed to everyone on the morning that your class meets the week after Spring Break.

We chose this hosting company because they have a lot of experience working with students just like you, that are likely getting their first domain name and web hosting account. You will be creating an account just like you would with any online vendor with which you want to purchase something. So it’s not a ‘CUNY’ account, we’re just giving you the coupon code to pay for the year’s service. The service will last for 1 year.

You do not need to pay for anything, so please reach out if you have questions – [email protected]

With that said, you will need to provide a name, address, and phone number. Lets go to this sign-up page <— to get started with the domain name selection process.

1. First you will need to pick your domain name, make sure that it is available and make your selection to proceed. (I suggest sticking with the .com or .net extensions)

2. On the next page, check the ‘add ID protection box.’

3. On the next page you should see two items in your cart and a price of $45 with ID protection, you will then enter the needed information for your new account and provided the coupon code and validate it. (you will NOT be charged for this, its already included in the course.)

After you fill in your personal information, and select the payment “Invoice Only” option. (again, you will not be charged anything.)

6. Click the “Complete Order” button and allow for the transaction to go through. Please check your e-mail for your account information and a verification of your e-mail link. With your new account information, log-on to Reclaiming Hosting.

Shortly after setting up your account and registering your domain you must verify your account via e-mail by clicking on the link they send to you. (be on the look out for a series of e-mails from Reclaim Hosting)

7. YOU ARE NOW ALL SET AND READY TO START WORKING WITH YOUR NEW DOMAIN NAME AND WEB HOSTING ACCOUNT!

8. It’s now TIME TO INSTALL WORDPRESS. – I will begin the set up installation – You can refer to the video recording posted after class and follow the step by step guide to install WordPress correctly.

Mid-semester re-cap

I think I’m doing alright in CT101. Honestly, it’s been hard for me to stay on top of all the assignments, I’m not the most tech-savvy.

Because of CT101 I’ve learned about many internet tools such as daily create or Giphy. Ones that I can use out of class even. Before taking this class I didn’t have many things I could use for designing and helping me with my brand. But now I know about photopea and so many more.

I Honestly think right now I deserve like a C because I didn’t really turn in my assignments on time and I also haven’t been complimenting on my classmates’ posts and I need to take accountability for what I haven’t been doing.

As for my creativity expanding  I can’t speak on it because I just did my assignments. The only one Im missing is Assignment 6 now. I also can’t really list my other assignments because I just did them.

But now that I know how fun and easy they are I will be better prepared if we have another assignment like this.

I also don’t really participate much in class because we don’t really have that many kids that come to class and most people say what I have wanted to say.

But from now on in order to improve my grade I will keep up with my assignments by making reminders for them. So that I can actually see improvements in my work and not have to wait until the last minute.

Assignment 5-digital storytelling projects

The first assignment I chose was one that came from the DS106 assignment bank I picked this specific one because I do have a clothing brand and wanted to pick an assignment that had something to do with design.

Step one- I went to Canva which gives you access to many different templates and lets you be creative in the things you’ll create

 

Step 3: I played around with the fonts so I could decide how I wanted to place everything and how I wanted it to look.

Assignment 4 – Passions

Are memes art?

I think memes are art. And some are more straight forward like this one is telling a story many others agree that memes are an art form as well.

There are many different kinds of memes created with so many different aspects even according to google memes could be included as a form of art because it shows human creativity and its the production of something that people appreciate because it helps them show communicate many different things.

And even the video we watched in class shows how while we are making memes or looking at them we are making and looking at art.

I think Gifs will go far because they are another form of communicating with different kinds of people.

In addition to that if you can show that you’re feeling an emotion through a Gif they are most definitely capable of telling a story.

What makes a compelling, successful, and engaging blog post is being simple and not writing too much. I say that because people’s attention spans are pretty short.

Looking back I didn’t hit many of the blogging points because I definitely wasn’t proofreading or checking that I was being thoughtful.

out of the two platforms Giphy and Imgur I find giphy to be the better of the two because it’s more user-friendly.

The first day of CT101 wasn’t what i expected it to be. My other classes were syllabus-heavy and homework heavy and this class wasn’t anything like that which is good.

And it gives me more space to be creative when I do my homework by expressing my feelings through images and videos of my choosing.

I also think learning new things will help me when it comes to my brand and learning internet tools I could use to enhance it.

Assignment 1-internet happy

Something on the internet that makes me happy is basketball highlights. I’m a big fan of basketball so being able to have access to even watch full games back from youtube or even see so much basketball content from Instagram, is something that makes me happy.

There are many videos so it’s hard to even get bored and that’s something that makes me happy because I could even apply some things to my own playing.

Assignment 7- mid-semester reflection…

I would say I’m doing pretty good in CT101, I get to class on time and participate when I can, and I’m also starting to get the hang of these assignments.

I would say I learned how to use hyperlinks I see them everywhere and before this class I had no idea how even to use them. Now that I think about it I could’ve just searched up “how to use hyperlinks?”

I mention that to say that hyperlinks are something I’m learning to use regularly because I aim to be a content creator and hyperlinks are so much more efficient and less wordy.

All though it took me a minute to learn how even to blog or how to make an efficient blog I think I’m getting the hang of it compared to my first post

What grade do I believe I am maintaining and why do I deserve that grade?

I think the letter grade I  am maintaining is a B+. I think I deserve that grade because I do attend class(bare minimum) but besides attending class I’m only missing one assignment ,in addition to that I participate in class when I can. I can improve on that, I just don’t like interrupting and then next thing I know we’re on the next assignment.

Do I see my weekly blogging work expanding creatively? If so, please explain why –  or am I stuck in a loop where my posts seem to look the same most of the time, how will I change that?

compared to my first post my blog work has definitely expanded because I had no idea how to hyperlink and I wasn’t really  trying I just wanted to get it over with. but now that I know how to do more my blogs are more creative. I know that I can add more videos and images  my laptop has been running out of space though  I’m trying to get in that.
