From my pov yes I believe memes are art and a way that makes people feel ways anger but laugh or laugh and is angry stuff or it is cringe-worthy
And I see this as a good thing that memes are here and they are here to stay they are good for communication to send funny things at school or even work to help with stress and also stories but not much
but my favorite memes are these and you can see how these related and are my favorite funny memes.
From an outside online pov of memes, the online def of the meme is “an amusing or interesting item (such as a captioned picture or video) or genre of items that is spread widely online, especially through social media” – said Webster’s dictionary:
Or from” Internet memes join these other art forms of disruption and are often compared to pop art and street art. Since social media platforms have become our modern gathering space, it makes sense that they are considered the street art of the Internet. Street art runs the gamut of subject matter as well and is a highly accessible art form created by everyday people. Both art forms attempt to disrupt norms, question society, and start a visual dialogue that can speak truth to power”
“Art memes feel their most effective and incisive when they attempt to speak truth to power, and succeed in attracting an audience; the likes, comments, and other positive affirmations form a positive feedback loop for their creators, incentivizing their further production, and bolstering the communities that congregate” quotes from https://www.lofficielusa.com/art/art-memes-digital-opinions-everyday-expressions
If I had to describe the class so far in memes I would use for the raccoon is adorable and look like mister Burns going excellent.
How does CT101 compare to some of your other classes so far?
Professor Seslow’s discussion of integrating the latest technology into our course blew my mind compared to any other class.

Did you like hearing about the course and its creative content? How did it make you feel?
I felt like I was gliding toward endless possibilities of creating exciting content.
(click above image for GIPHY link)
What are the creative potentials of this class?
The creative potentials are editorially endless.
(click above image for Imgur link)
For example, all of the new websites we are incorporating into CT101 so far have aspects of editing built into them.
Editing skills are vital in the creative job market these days
Learning new skills will also make students more valuable to employers. It means you are ready to work on day one and require less training.
It also shows that you are prepared to begin your new career.

WARNING: Using the built-in editor tool for GIPHY may be frustrating.
Don’t be alarmed.

Private videos can be any video set to private on YouTube.
There are copywriting blockers installed. You may be prevented from editing “private videos.”
Suggestion: You can edit a video found on YouTube simply by copy-pasting and editing using the “clip” option built into YouTube. You will find “clip” under your YouTube video of choice, select scissors icon adjacent to “clip” tool. Use this to edit your videos within the YouTube platform. Then paste URL into the Commons blog. I tend to use the “add media” option and add the URL right there. There are many ways to do this on our blog post, but I have found using “Add Media” followed by “Insert from URL” to be the most intuitive. (click on GIF above for link to GIPHY)

How do you feel about learning new skills that use Internet tools?
Nobody says it better than Biden.
It’s about time, FINALLY!!!

I created this gif using footage from the annual NYC Dance Parade
Select play above to witness a little variety while I experimented with gif making
Just a tiny personal plug, since 2017, I have worked for Dance Parade New York, a non-profit. I spend my days and nights organizing with different dance groups like the ones in my gif. Together each year, along with 10,000 performers, we create New York City’s largest dance event.
Indeed, internet memes are a fixture in the digital world. When the question arises as too if they can be considered an art, subjectivity blossoms. In my earnest opinion, I reckon they are.
A relatively new phenomenon, the GIF expands the ability to express and portray stories. I get a sense of joy and thrill when I am able to include them in my articles. Grants me a sense of completion and true fulfillment in all honesty. Usually in other classes memes are frowned upon, as it’s deemed unprofessional or not academic rather.
In my section of class, I think we have a great group, the synergy in the classroom makes for better networking and collaboration when we interact with each other on our content here.
I usually find memes on a simple google search, or through twitter usually. That’s why I am grateful to have learned about GIPHY. Such a broader selection and a great resource to find such gems. I have always been aware of their presence, but this is the first proper occasion that I’m able to utilize them. Never really added them in group chats or anything haha. I try to add diverse types of memes that have different subjects as I feel it appeals to a broader group and also gives depth to my work.
In the work so far, I have been able to include various hyperlinks, screenshots and memes that I am over the moon to include. I’m really pleased with my product. In addition to it being a different style than I have written in the past. I’ll add some more below.
Don’t get me wrong, I know that they aren’t traditionally accepted as pieces in MOMA or the Museum of Natural History. That’s due to a poor start of a reputation. Which is only projected to be more accepted in future years.
Take this article from whatiknowmeme.org, Memes as Art.
They reinforce my claim immensely, by stating, “They are a highly accessible art form worthy of serious consideration, and exhibits serve to more permanently record their impact as well as give people more space and time to absorb meaning, reflect on how they affect their lives, and engage in conversations about inspiration, content, and effect. They stand as another example of a physical embodiment of a meme, underscoring their ability to take many forms and exist in many media spaces.” It’s a good read as well.
Furthermore, the following video speaks on the validity of memes’ being an art.
Lastly, I think I will mention my experience. In the last assignment, I felt that meme’s added a huge artistic touch to my work and elevated my point to new heights. A new threshold was achieved.
well on the first day, I was tired cause it was a long day so I was looking forward to class, and now cause I was tired
but also excited about what was to come at first in the beginning and happy to do a class that sounded as interesting as this I was right
Did you like hearing about the course and its creative content? How did it make you feel?
so far yes I do its so fun to do blogging with I have never done and used gifs on youtube and homework and now I stress over it so I can focus on it in this class that is fun it’s a creative class
How does CT101 compare to some of your other classes so far?
so far it’s a lil online with the blogging and I’ve been online since freshman year of college, but last year I was finally in person I’m pretty comfortable with this class after being used to online for so long and the professor talks to us more and interacts to help the students that are good
What are the creative potentials of this class?
ALOT THERE IS NOT LIMIT TO BEING CREATIVE
How do you feel about learning new skills that use Internet tools?
I feel shocked at what I learned to do far for how amazing it is.
but also hella excited and happy to learn new tools that I can use in what I do.
First – lets screen the video above together and then later read the hyperlinked articles below for more context. (hint hint – > You should re-watch this video outside of class and reference it in your blog post 🙂
Second – The Assignment #3 Details: A New Blog Post is in order.
Memes have become an integral part of the online world, with new memes constantly popping up on social media platforms like Reddit, Tik Tok, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. But where did these funny images and phrases come from, and how did they become such a popular form of communication? Let’s explore the history of memes and how they have evolved into a unique form of internet communication.
The origins of the modern-day meme can be traced back to the early days of the internet. In the late 1990s, internet users began sharing images and text that had been altered or repurposed in a humorous way. These early memes were often created by hand and circulated on message boards and email chains. The first memes were simple and crude, but they paved the way for the more complex and sophisticated memes we see today.
One of the first internet memes to gain widespread popularity was the “Dancing Baby” in 1996. The Dancing Baby was a 3D animation of a baby that appeared in a television show called “Ally McBeal.” The animation was manipulated and turned into a looping GIF that was shared online. The Dancing Baby became a viral sensation, and its popularity sparked the creation of other memes like “All Your Base Are Belong to Us”
Over the years, memes have evolved into a complex and multifaceted form of communication. Today, memes are often used to convey complex emotions, comment on current events, and even express political views. Memes are a way for people to connect and communicate online, and they often reflect the cultural and social trends of the moment.
One of the most fascinating aspects of memes is the way they spread and evolve. Memes are often created by one person, but they can quickly be adopted and transformed by others. Memes can go through a process of evolution as they are shared and re-shared, with each iteration adding new layers of meaning and humor.
Assignment #3 – Are MEME’s ART?
Let’s write a new blog post ->
***be sure to re-read the assignment criteria and work along side of it to make sure that you are including all aspects of the assignment***
Start by doing an Internet search for; “Are memes ART?”
See what you discover, gather those website links and share them in your new post. (at least 2-3 should be fairly easy to find)
No matter how you cut it, memes are here to stay… but is this good or bad for Art? Is this good or bad for communication? Are memes simply just forms of self-expression? Or are they MORE? Well, why or why not? I want to know what you think.
Can MEMEs be used for storytelling? If so, How? Explain how they are used in your experience here on the Web. Back up your answers with MEMEs and a statement.
Let’s create a compelling way to share our responses! Remember to pay attention to the good blogging skills list example in last week’s post?
And by all means plan to create, search for, discover and share your favorite existing Memes via an image or URL, or embed them into your new blog post for this coming week. You must share at least 3 of your favorite all time MEMEs in this post.
How will you craft a narrative between using Memes and your own personal experiences?
**Oh, and, you MUST create at least 2-4 of your own memes to express your sentiments for our CT101 class! Be sure to include the words: “CT101” in your meme!
Perhaps, you will say “CT101 be like…”
OR, “What if I told you that CT101….”
All of this nestles quite well into in new Blog post! Please consider the formatting of this blog post that you are reading right now. Notice how we see a mixture of images, video and hyperlinks that help give context and reference to where we are drawing resources from.
Honestly I didn’t know what to expect. From the description I was excited to do things that were on the creative end of things. With journalism there’s a certain structure you have to follow so this would be a nice change of pace.
Did you like hearing about the course and its creative content? How did it make you feel?
I enjoyed hearing about the creative content. I feel like this class will give me the opportunity to explore my interest without having to think of why or how it’s news worthy.
How does CT101 compare to some of your other classes so far?
In my other classes I have to focus on stories that are either given to me or find stories that are considered “newsworthy”. This usually doesn’t give way to talking about things that interest me that either don’t have longevity or have a news peg. I feel like this class gives me more creative freedom.
What are the creative potentials of this class?
I feel like this has many creative possibilities. From talking about events that happen on campus to events that happen around the world.
How do you feel about learning new skills that use Internet tools?
I feel like I could get the hang of things pretty quickly. I already use the internet on a daily basis anyways.
I was extremely excited for this class. Truth be told, I’ve had a LOT of writing intensive classes in the last few semesters and finally having a class I won’t have to write 10 page papers for is a tremendous breath of fresh air.
Did you like hearing about the course and its creative content? How did it make you feel?
Absolutely, I’m so ready to actually have fun and enjoy my assignments rather than just go through them with my mind turned off just for the required credits.
How does CT101 compare to some of your other classes so far?
So much better than my other classes. I love how relaxed and enjoyable class feels, and I love how the professor goes out of his way to make things easier on us, rather than make it needlessly difficult because that’s the way it’s always been.
It’s wonderful to be treated like a person for once.
What are the creative potentials of this class?
The only limit is your imagination!
How do you feel about learning new skills that use Internet tools?
This week what is making me happy is the new game Hogwarts Legacy. It was officially released on the 10th but since I preordered it I got to play it 3 days early. I spent a good majority of my weekend doing quests and exploring the vast world inside the game. Unfortunately we can’t play quidditch in the game.
After I felt tired from playing Hogwarts, I got on GTA, one of my favorite games.
I could spend hours on Grand Theft Auto just doing whatever with my friends. But I mainly try to focus on getting entertaining clips while playing, for my GTA TikTok account.
What is making me happy this week is youtube. I usually spend most of my time on youtube watching content creators play games such as DBZ Dokkan Battle, and Brawllhalla. Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle is a free-to-play mobile game based on the Dragon Ball anime franchise. Developed by Akatsuki and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment.
Brawlhalla is a free 2D platform fighting game that supports up to 8 local or online players with full cross-play for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS5, PS4, iOS, Nintendo Switch, and Android. Climb the ranked ladder from Tin up to Platinum and beyond! Matches you against players near your skill level. https://www.youtube.com/@Brawlhalla/videos
On the Internet I am particularly active mainly on YouTube. I mostly watch content about video games. Especially content in which people make an aspect from or based on a video game or movie into real life. Namely videos made by Hacksmith Industries, 5-year-craft etc.
In addition to this. I also wactch YouTube channels such as GameXplain. I watch them because they give updates on not only video games but also anything video game related. Such as this video regarding the new Super Mario Bros. movie which is 100% on my list of movies to watch this year.
This week I’ve been taking in a lot of sim content (as always) because I absolutely love The Sims. Recently I’ve been catching up on one of my favorite sim series “lovesick” by oshinsims
I’ve also found one of my favorite celebs aka Keke Palmer plays The Sims 4 and she also started streaming on twitch. I love Keke, I love The Sims, and I love using Twitch so it’s like worlds are colliding.
Speaking of twitch one of my favorite streamers, Kai Cenat is doing a subathon on twitch and is streaming for 30 days straight. I believe he’s on day 13. I don’t watch the whole stream, but I pop in once in a while to see what’s going on.

so far the things that made me happy this week are my bday past I’m officially 21 I’m older but I still look young thank you genetics and stuff and my boyfriend meeting my family on my bday and loving him
And the next best thing is my favorite band Falling In Reverse new song has come out and it’s so good I Love It plus watching an old fav movie marathon starting with the lost boys.
so so far this has been a pretty good week so far and valentine’s day is coming and I got a plan.
Hello everybody, what’s been making me happy this week(as well as my entire childhood) is none other than the amazing and absolutely hilarious, Keke Palmer.
Keke Palmer is an actress, musician, dancer. My introduction to Keke was through her first leading role, “Akeelah and The Bee”. I also grew up watching her play as True Jackson in “True Jackson VP”, among many other iconic roles in movies and tv shows. This show was very important to me because during its time it wasn’t common for a black girl to be leading her own show also while unapologetically being herself.
This week I’ve been indulging in her YouTube channel and binging a whole bunch of her content dating from years back. What’s been having me laugh until my stomach hurts from her channel is her self produced comedy series “That’s The Gag”
“That’s The Gag” is a parody coded, Mockumentary style web-series that is very loosely based on Keke Palmer’s experiences as an actress. In this show Keke is now seen as a washed-up actress who can no longer book gigs the way she used to. She desperately tries to revive her career through many useless attempts that will leave you rolling on the floor.
As unserious as it was, I was fully entertained till the very end.
Another thing that has been making me happy this week is Ice Spice and PinkPantheress’s unexpected but extremely well received collaboration, “Boy’s A Liar pt 2” released not too long ago. This song has been on repeat since I found it. I love music that sounds experimental and does well with mixing genres, so I’m pleased with this collaboration.
Ahh, yes the GIF. An outlet to express yourself through images and clipped videos. That’s my initial synopsis anyway. When it comes to both platforms of Giphy and IMAGR, I prefer GIPHY. Purely based on the selection, and the interface is more appealing when I’m browsing. The design template is amazing.
What did you think on the first day of the CT101?
I was super excited and motivated on the first day to see how I would be able to express myself in some written form. Moreover, I was hype to meet a new group of colleagues. I was intrigued how I would be able to relay my stories over the course of the class. The atmosphere instantly motivated me.
Did you like hearing about the course and its creative content? How did it make you feel?
I liked hearing about the course, and the creative content as well. To be allowed to have a license to creatively express and write…. It left me feeling sensational. I have such an affinity for writing so this is amazing.
How does CT101 compare to some of your other classes so far?
It’s probably the most enjoyable of the lot, honestly. Professor, I appreciate your teaching style, the environment is spectacular, and my fellow students all add to the ambience. A blissful start.
What are the creative potentials of this class?
I think that the sky is the limit. We could potentially relay our stories with a mix of GIF’s, video hyperlinks, and screenshots to elevate and make our pieces more visually attractive to the audience.
How do you feel about learning new skills that use Internet tools?
I’m always open to learning and adapting to new tools and concepts. It’s great for development. I feel it will grant me the ability to flourish as a future journalist in the digital age down the line.
GIFS have massive potential and have ingrained themselves with storytelling. We live in an era where the traditional text only elaboration is becoming perhaps stale, and with the inclusion of this element the sky’s the limit. It makes story in my opinion more creative and appealing. For online journalistic pieces to be successful, they have to be engaging to the reader. It may only work for a younger audience, but over time that should balance out to a broader audience base.
Take this quote from a Smithsonian Museum article, “Thanks to the humble GIF, no emotions are too big or small to capture in animated image form.” This exemplifies how much GIF has appealed to the author’s emotional intake in relation the story they read. Talk about impact.
Well everybody, that’s my thoughts. Till next time.
