What did you think on the first day of CT 101?

Now being honest, coming into the class – I did not know what to expect. I thought the class would be overall just us learning about how to properly write on a site BUT it was such a plot twist to see how this will be a course where we use our creative mindsets to intertwine with what we are speaking on. I also think it’s super cool that our professor is deaf but he still makes the class fun and gives us a chance to adapt to our creative side!

Did you like hearing about the course and its creative content? How did it make you feel?

When reading that we will be working with gifs to incorporate in our story and how we tell it, I was so excited. With this generation, we use memes and gifs for everything and anything. It’s a form of language for us, ha. I think this would give my fellow classmates and myself included a new way to express when we don’t necessarily have the words to express it. I think this format will keep the class engaged and entertained.

How does CT101 compare to some of your other classes?

I can tell this is class is going to be way more fun than the rest of my other classes. As we go in, I am going to be learning how to use GIFS to back up what I have to say. I want to learn more about putting my creative side to use when doing an article or a blog on something. It captures the audience more. Most of my other classes are gonna be majorly on writing papers and giving sources and data. This class allows me to break into my creative side and show it in a more cool and fun way. This is more hands-on than most classes because you are doing it from scratch in a sense.

What are the potentials of this class?

Being a journalism major, I do want to enter the field more of technology and blogs. I want to be able to move through the internet smoothly and having a new way of expressing myself but still giving facts out. I want to come out of the class ready to bring a new way of blogging to the media in a different sense.

How do you feel about learning new skills that use Internet tools?

When learning new things, you are always going to be scared of failure and not doing something correctly but at the the end of it, I think I will be able to catch on to using the tools and use it in my own every day life and possibly in my career in the long run. I am ready as I can be.

To end this off, when picking where to use my GIFS, I went with Giphy. I think it definitely offered more creative gifs that I liked and the other one, imgur was a bit more basic. And something to get to know me: this gif is the energy to become the best in the game. A future modern journalist in the rising.

On my first day of CT 101, I was both perplexed but curious especially since I have never taken a class like this.

I did like hearing about the course and it’s creative content since it’s so present in our everyday lives. However when it came to making the contents ourselves I was a bit skeptical.

I am so ready to learn about new skills because it helps me to understand the fundamentals that have been vital in creating internet culture.

Both Imgur and Giphy are great platforms to create and use Gifs. However I prefer Imgur because it is much easier to create gifs and the format brings nostalgia when giphy can be overwhelming.

What did you think on the first day of the CT101?

I did not fully understand the overall idea of the course however, I  was pleasantly surprised with how much of a creative outlet this class will open for us. It is exciting and definitely refreshing having an expressive and open class in comparison to our statistical psychology🤮 lectures and what not.

Did you like hearing about the course and its creative content? How did it make you feel?

I was honestly so relieved after hearing and understanding how refreshing this class would be. I have not been able to express myself creatively in a long time, and I only just began to use different outlets such as doing my makeup and learning different techniques. However, it is nice being able to be more expressive  and opeen in class. It honestly keeps me more engaged and definitely more interested.

How does CT101 compare to some of your other classes?

I am currently finishing up all the credits I need in order to fulfill my major in Psychology. And as a result I am taking classes that include research psychology, STATISTICAL psychology, and many, many, many, more.  But after our first session, you would not believe how relieved I was to be taking this course over FA 🤮for a liberal arts credit. I am not trying to throw any shade, but over the last couple years in college, this is honestly the first class I feel will really allow me to express my creative side in my work. It is a lot more fun and engaging that way. Being so far into my major, being able to take class with this type of content is a good break.

What are the potentials of this class?

This class will definitely open up more creative outlets for me. I have been focused on work as I started a new full-time job that definitely takes up a lot of my schedule. And as a result I feel that I dont have time to do anything fun, just school and work. But taking a creative, more fun course like this is a good breaking ground between a 40 hour work week and many long lectures and heavy textbooks.

How do you feel about learning new skills that use Internet tools?

I am very open and curious to develop my internet skills and use of internet tools. I’ll  be honest, I am not the best at it, but I hope this class will be able to help me strengthen this skill.

Assignment 1

The internet is a part of my daily life and I find many things on it entertaining. Some things that have made me happy this past week on the internet is the use of Crunchyroll and Funimation, as well as Peacock.  

Crunchyroll and Funimation: One of my favorite things to do during my free time is watch anime. The websites I use to watch anime are Crunchyroll and Funimation, I have an account for both. I either watch it on my phone or laptop. Recently every week during my free time I make sure I am caught up on Attack on Titan and Demon Slayer they have had me amazed every week since their new season releases. Demon slayer has some of the best animation I have ever seen.

Peacock: I have watched wrestling ever since I was kid, and it has been something that my family and I have always bonded over. This past Saturday we watched a WWE pay-per-view of the elimination chamber and I enjoyed watching it with them.

1. Although the week just started, I found quite a few things on the internet that have made me happy so far which didn’t come as a surprise due to the concerning attachment I have with my phone. The very first thing I remember was finding a recipe for dumplings and coconut cream pie because I was hungry and felt like making something new. I love to cook and bake despite not being the best and nothing makes me happier than finding easy recipes on the internet that I feel like I can manage given my lack of skill.
2. Another thing that made me happy on the internet was scrolling through my Instagram and Pinterest feed which consist of various kinds of art such as vintage cartoons, ballpoint pen drawings, poetry, and dark gothic art. They both also consist of book recommendations and summaries which led me to do some research of my own. Although I have not been reading as much as I’d like to, I am consistently adding books to my booklist. This week, I added eleven existential classics after doing some research of my own. My eleventh grade English teacher introduced me to this genre and I was captivated right away but haven’t done many readings on it. Below are some screenshots of my Instagram and Pinterest feed!

3) For as long as I can remember, I have always loved movies on the whole but as I got older, I became extremely fond of horror movies. To me, horror has always been horror-nothing more, nothing less. Until I was scrolling on Hulu and found that there are different types of horror whether it is supernatural, demonic, slasher, zombie, etc. I thought that indie horror was the coolest given its definition “Specifically, indie or low-budget horror cinema has proven itself to be particularly illustrative of horrors’ commitment to experimentation and shock value.”. I found this fascinating because it heavily relies on creativity and the execution of it all. Most films I have been watching were indie horror after this discovery.

Things that make me happy on the Internet!!

I know it’s a surprising fact for most of the people here that I did not have access to the internet until 10th grade. Since I grew up in Bangladesh, the only source of entertainment was playing with the children from our neighborhood in the afternoon and watching television. However, when finally I got access to the internet, the first game I played on the internet was Hill Climb Racing. But my favorite game was Bomber Friends, I finished all the 1000 levels of that game with my younger brother.

Nowadays I spent a lot of time on the Internet exploring social media. My favorite site on social media is YouTube. I love to watch documentaries on science and history, off-grid lifestyle, cooking channels, DIY videos on YouTube. There are some content creators on YouTube whom I follow on a regular basis. I also learned cooking and painting from YouTube. Besides that, I am quite active on Instagram. I often use  Facebook and Messenger to stay connected to my friend and family who lives in Bangladesh.

I also enjoy movies from online movie streaming sites like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Videos, Disney+, etc. I enjoy Korean drama and thriller movies. Although people are so addicted to Tiktok, I don’t really like that at all. In fact, I never installed that app on my phone. I know there is some good stuff, but most of it is a waste of time for me.

Because of the Covid’19 pandemic, I become more addicted to the Internet.  But gradually I am trying to limit my screen time so that I can concentrate on my study.

Something that makes me happy on the internet is watching random YouTube videos. There is not one set of content that I enjoy, but rather videos that peak my interest. These especially help to brighten my mood and stimulate my mind. These are some of the videos I watched this week.

Another thing that made me happy on the internet was browsing on social media. This week has been stressful with schoolwork, so mindless browsing  has helped to alleviate some of the stress, and made me laugh.

A final thing that made me happy on the internet was reading reddit posts. My favorite sections are aww, aita, offmychest, and skincare addicts. I like these specific sections because of the different stories, pictures and advice.

What did you think on the first day of the CT101? 

To be completely honest I was very impressed with the first day of class. I didn’t think we would be doing cool and fun activities like this.

Did you like hearing about the course and its creative content? How did it make you feel? 

Yes, I like hearing about the course and its creative content because knowing that we won’t be focusing on a textbook all the time is really important and it’s  really easy to learn new things. I felt very excited and ready to let my imagination go crazy. 

How does CT101 compare to some of your other classes?

CT101 is more like a hand on and let your creativity run wild kind of class  while my other class focuses more on textbooks and reading. To be honest I don’t mind the reading part, but I prefer a hands-on kind of Education.

What are the potentials of this class?

My major is computer technology. Everything that we’ve done in this class is already an improvement to my skills and one step toward my goal.

How do you feel about learning new skills that use Internet tools?

I am amazed and ready to learn more.

Fun On The Internet

Like most persons, I spend a great deal of my time on the internet using Youtube, watching video after video after video for hours on end.

Whether it be school related videos, music videos or simply just vlogs, there’s never a shortage of entertaining content on Youtube. Commentary/reactions to shows, movies and music has rapidly become my favorite type of videos because it’s like I’m watching or listening with a friend. Some of my favorite reactors are, ur internet mom ash, ZZAVID, HTHAZE, jay meets world,  KioshiWarrior and FilmFreakBecky.

When it comes to any form of art I think it’s always good to see things from another point of view and be made aware of things that you might have initially missed or misunderstood. 

This past week I have mostly been watching reactions to the show Euphoria on HBO Max but I also watched the movie Dead Poets Society for the first time. I heard of it some time ago but never got around to watching, I guess I can thank this assignment for helping me rediscover it.

In searching for different media pieces to use in my post I found the clip above (youtube coming in clutch once again) that sparked my interest. It’s a wonderful film that, though it was released in 1989, touches on some tough topics that are still very relevant in today’s time.

I go online every day to read the news, check my Tiktok, and watch YouTube videos. I enjoy watching videos about new healthy items. This week, one of the things that has been on my mind is my natural hair. I’ve been watching YouTube videos to learn more about how to care for natural hair. As a black woman with a 4c, taking care of my natural hair has been quite challenging. For years, my hair seemed to have remained the same length. So, this week, I’ve been watching a lot of YouTube videos on my natural hair.

First thing that i learned was my porosity hair type

The porosity of your hair determines its ability to absorb and retain moisture. The porosity of your hair dictates how easily oils and moisture may pass through the cuticle, your hair’s outermost layer. Medium-porosity cuticles are less firmly linked. I discovered that I have low porosity hair and that I have been using high porosity products to care for it for years, causing my hair to split and become dry. 

Second thing I learned is never comb your hair dry. 

The third thing I learnt is the best shampoo and oil for my low porosity hair type

This week, one of my favorite podcasts came back after some time off. The H3 Podcast host, Ethan Klein announced the comeback of the show on Twitter. The show had taken a break for the winter holidays and after Ethan and his wife, Hila welcomed their new son, Bruce.

Ethan and his wife/co-host Hila, came back on Monday with a Valentine’s Day special where they and their crew played the newly-wed game to test out who knows their significant other best.

Of course, it was super funny and entertaining to watch as always. The podcast is mostly known for their takes on pop culture subjects, political and societal issues (which they poke fun at and make light of), and ultimately the lives of Ethan and Hila. They also do the show live on Youtube which allows fans and watchers to interact with them as they do the show. It’s always a fun experience and one of the highlights of my week.

I was extremely excited after attending the first class and was excited to show my creative side. I really do enjoy showing my creative side, but I felt like that side of me as been locked up because I  dont get to show that side with any of my classes. 

How does CT101 compare to some of your other classes?

It seems more fun, adventurous and I’ll be able to be creative compared to my other classes. This class doesn’t relate to my major, but it does relate to something I like to do which is why I wanted to take it.

What are the potentials of this class?

I think to learn a new skill and being free to express oneself. To me there isn’t just one answer for the potential of this class. I feel the answer is whatever fits you 

How do you feel abut learning new skills that use Internet tools?

 I am very open minded to it.  

When I was 8 years old, I first got my PC and later that year we had an internet connection in your house. The first thing that internet brought me joy was I got lots of games access though the internet. I don’t need to give my flash drive to my friends or buy any new CD for new games. One of the most interesting game I found on the internet was FarmVillege. Farm Village is a simple game in which players can handle all aspects of farm life in the Middle Ages. As I grow up in Bangladesh and when ever I used to go my village those farming always makes me curious how farmers grow vegetables. In that game FarmVillege, The user started with an empty farm and a set number of Farm Coins, the game’s principal currency. Players earned XP  by cultivating land or purchasing goods in the game. The most interesting part of this game is readied the land for planting seeds, which would eventually be harvested after a set amount of time. I kind a feel that this game helps make to me more patient.

The another things that most make me joy using internet is movies streaming sites. In this pandemic I couldn’t think my days without Netflix and Amazon Prime video. In last 2 years the amounts of movies and series I watched on those sites, I never watched that amounts of movies in my whole life.

Another thing that makes me happy using Instagram. I love to follow the people I like most and uploads my photograph to my account. Photography is my hobby. I take lots of picture of my camera and phone. Even I spend my most money buying new lens for my Canon.

Things that make me happy on the internet, CT101

One of the things that made me happy on the internet is listening to music, and this week is when i was on – this week was an article about one of my favorite rappers called Chief Keef and his influence on the modern-day genre of rap called trap and drill and also add lib and mumble rap. Chief Keef had a very modern and Innovative approach to wrap back in 2012. When he was just sixteen when he released his debut album finally rich with hits like “Love Sosa”, “hate being sober” and collaborations with Wiz Khalifa and 50 Cent.

Among other top artists at the time this was a revolutionary type of flow that wasn’t really appreciated at the time but now has been adopted by many of today’s up and coming rappers  now a decade later Chief Keef and his impact on music in the modern-day and as well as Chicago the drill and trap is as popular now as ever Although the messages in the music can vary depending on who’s listening it’s clear that music like this is very popular even amongst athletes like Tom Brady who happened to be of A different race still appreciate trap and  drill music and use it as motivation  to accomplish goals. I feel as though  this is an important point to highlight because it shows just how important music is in breaking down racial barriers and getting people to understand things from different points of view even if they look at the same thing and at the end of the day that is what makes art what it is end Chief Keef is definitely an artist and a living legend not just in his hood but around the world 

This leads me into another thing that makes me happy, just seeing rap in the halftime show and how far rap has come as a genre and mainstream sense also appreciating how far it has still left to go as a genre and evolving decade by decade.
