CUNY York College – Digital Storytelling
So creating a domain wasn’t difficult at all however I had to look at the zoom videos to make sure I was doing everything correctly. I had chose Jazzyfeyproductions as my website name because to me it is unique and was a weird nickname given to me (once at least) from a joke, therefore I decided to take a chance and use it. I may change the name if I have the chance to as I continue to use the domain.
Before coming into this class, a friend of mine had recommended that I take Ct-101.
After the second week I found out we were going to be making gifs and got really into it!
I thought it was cool because who doesn’t like gifs.
I like Ct-101 because compared to my other classes, this is the only one where I don’t have to write essays or do research.

I am super excited to get started on this process. I can’t wait to have my own website. It feels like the beginning stages of building a new house.

It’s got to be something recognizable, easy to remember, an accurate representation who I am and what I’m about .

First off the fact that a well known news media group having the name VICE is pretty cool. Like imagine you’re at at party and some asks you where do you work and you reply
“At VICE NEWS”
I don’t know it just has some swagger to it.
the second new site that I enjoy is
VOX is just simple easy to remember and not only do they post amazing content but they have pretty logo. It attracts your eye and real hard not to notice it.
Furthermore, it pretty obvious that my website will be NEWS based but I not married to that. I want it to my spot where I put all my blogs, project, News article, podcast, etc.
My website will be more than likely a multimedia based site and I want to treat it as my playground of creativity.
Option #1
This probably the ideal website especially if I want use it for my resume its clear and it gets the point across but boring in my opinion. I don’t hate but it works.
Option#2
It got a bit more edge to it but a bit ambiguous. I just like it because I can confidently say it and it would probably spark a conversation or two.
Option#3
This sounds like news organizations that exist but I went around to see if it popped up any where and it didn’t. This is probably the most professional one I could come up with but I’m still thinking about.
My only fear about this is picky a name that I later regret but other than that I am just itchy to get started.

I was so excited when I get to know that we are going to make our own website because one of my friends took this course last semester and she told me that in this class we have to create our website. Now when it is time, the name of my website would be IqSa, “Iq” are the first two letters of my name, and “Sa” is the first two letters of my last name. I’m not 100% sure what my website will be about, but I’m thinking to make it about makeup since I love talking about it.
Are Memes Art???
A small google search and you learn that memes are images that portray a humorous image, video or picture that spreads through social media users like a quick falling domino effect. Now what’s the definition of art you may have asked yourself, and the answer to your question bubble is the following: Art is the image in your mind that you are able to express into forms of visual or sounds, these images in your mind are unique compared to other ones, you know which ones.
Now with the definitions above which can be different for others, is meme art?
Yes, they are art. The knowledge has been given. Boom!
Memes in fact are a form of art because it is an expression of whatever you are trying to express. Hmm… Maybe that didn’t make sense, well let me guide you.
This is me expressing my eagerness of telling you what to do in a form of a gif. Sorry for yelling! I just wanted your attention. Since art is a form of expression, gifs count as a form expression and not only that, this means that gifs can be an expression of you feel.
Our emotions are as followed, we can sometimes feel happy, sad, mad, etc. Some of these emotions build an image in your mind, in your thoughts, that if given opportunity of expression you will express it. I found it somewhat helpful expressing it through gifs lol, just the ones that aren’t to deep you know. This is how I’m feeling right now>
Now, what about you? How you feeling in the form of a gif?
To have a course in which you don’t have a due date is a relief honestly. For me due dates bring upon stress and anxiety and the closer the day zooms in the less encouraged I feel to do the work, weird huh? Don’t worry though, I still give the assignments in time lol. In addition my other classes have due dates on a weekly or 2-3 day basis and that does not help me at all. It is not only annoying but extremely tiring doing all those assignments pressured by the due dates that are just 2-3 days apart every time but CT is not like the rest, CT is the goat, CT the MVP.
The bear feels the vibes with CT, it’s excited to know that this class will reach our creativity and will allow us to express ourselves in different creative fun ways. More classes should be like so, to give us work that allows to show our creativity in different ways, not just forced applicable words.

I have always loved showing others what I see on a daily basis while roaming the streets of New York. Little things like seeing phrases on the sidewalk- or a name being spray painted on construction sites, I would either take a picture of or share on my social media. So my potential blog would definitely have sightings for people who are interested in roaming the city looking at things that are unique and rare like art.
I also am in love with clothes, putting outfits together that stand out and just scream wow !
Every other day i’m buying sneakers that people don’t see everyday, putting them together with shirts or even hats is a hobby I have grown into to love. The blog would have a few items of clothes that are in style and clothes that you wouldn’t see everyday.
I have come to the conclusion that my domain name would be “Mac dee Sauze” just because now and days people use “saucy” as a way of describing someones fashion sense and the type of person someone is. Also, my last name is Dessources so the “dee Sauze” was found along the lines of that name.
“Be your own Best Friend!” (https://www.travelgrom.com/travel-blog/iphone-camera-trick-illusion-panomagic ) This assignment already sounds amazing so why not look more into it, which was provided by Elizabeth Kondzella. She has this unique view on things- being able to tell because of her picture for the assignment alone. Viewing two of the same person in the same person makes people want to explore their abilities in doing things like this. I chose this assignment simply because it is different and very interesting. There’s not a lot of assignments that people find exciting but this had “try me” written all over it.
This is an assignment I most definitely would need help doing because it seems like a task but if I took the time to understand what it is I am doing I would be able to do this on my own. Perfecting this assignment a couple times during this semester would be important simply because it is a great way to attract attention and to bring smiles onto others faces. This also teaches you how to bring an audience by performing or showing new things that people never knew they had in their own possession. Ex :
Assignments like these are easy to learn and useful when it comes to storytelling because not only does it emphasize the importance of the context but it makes it more amusing as previously mentioned. Imagine telling your friend a story but having a cool picture to help make it even more fun !
But there are other assignments that are more strictly for the serious side of writing a paper like “Assignmenthelp “ ( http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/assignmenthelp/ ). For example, making a conclusion to finish the hard work you’ve done may be one of the hardest things to do.
Having this skill is very important simply because it will help in school, especially for hard homework- or just pieces being given to editors. Doing this assignment a lot of times during this semester will help improve my storytelling skills, while making sure the content is good enough for readers making sure ending it all together is what makes it an even better masterpiece.
I don’t usually watch videos like this but this was very interesting. Seeing how he was able to learn so much at a young age was very surprising to me. Reddit is an app were a lot of people go to show their creativity and chat with each other. I’ve never used the app before but one of the youtubers I watch uses the app often which is when I became more familiar with the app. Aaron was a very creative person and very smart. Hearing what happened really made me sad.
One thing I picked up from the video was when Aaron said “what is the most important thing in the world that I might be working on right now”. That really caught my attention. I wanna become stable/successful enough to the point where I could take care of my family and make sure they’re good.
I’m really looking forward to this assignment. I’m pretty excited because its my first time doing this and I kind of like trying out knew things. For my domain name I would probably go with ClarkV or CVG. The first one is my first name and my last name initial. The second option is my first and last name initial and the G stands for gaming. I feel like those two would be a good name because its a website about some of my interests.
My website would be about things I like to do on a regular bases. Whether I have school or not I’m always doing it. That one thing is gaming. I always like playing different games or just trying out new games. Gaming helps take my mind off of school sometimes when I got a lot to do. I would just take a little break and play with friends or by myself.
My website won’t only be about games it would also be about other things such as what I do if I am not gaming. It would be about other things such as sports I’ve played before or still play till this day. Aside from All of these things, I also like drawing and I play an instrument as well. I like trying out new things and see what I am good at. Just going up I’ve learned how to do a lot of things. Those are a couple of ideas I have about what my website would be about.

Registering a domain name was a lot easier than I thought. With the help of the zoom recording from class, the instructions were pretty straight forward.
First, I accessed the blog Professor Seslow posted. Then, I checked out the site that we’re using to make our websites called Reclaim Hosting. After that, I proceeded to the sign-up page.
After careful consideration, I concluded that I should pick a simple domain name, so I went with… claudiabakes.com!
It may not be the most brilliant domain name, but simplicity is the key!
Once Reclaim Hosting notified my domain name was available, I went ahead to the next step and made sure I checked off the box that said ID Protection. The keyword is FREE.
Moving forward, I double-checked all my credentials and made sure that the coupon code went thru.
It sure did, ladies and gentlemen!
Anyway, the next few steps were simple enough since I had them fresh on my mind.
After pressing the cpanel button, I was brought to the next page.
Then, I pressed the WordPress icon, which leads me to another page, where I proceeded to install the application.
Don’t forget to change your username and password on the page that followed after the installation began. And so I waited again…
The next page that popped up looked like this:

That’s as far as I got!
I was happy to have gotten through the process a lot faster than I thought. It was simple and accessible without complications. My next step is to get some ideas flowing and picture what I would like my site to look like.
Aaron Swartz was a brilliant programmer who helped create amazing things, one of them being one of the internet’s largest repositories of information, Reddit.
Aaron Swartz, along with Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian, founded Reddit and created a new culture in the Worldwide Web. If you’re not sure what Reddit is, it is a social media platform that allows users to have discussions about topics that other users have submitted. Because of this freedom of expression, news on Reddit ranges anywhere from group discussions about politics, personal confessions, or even entertainment like posts about silly cats. 
The creation of this medium is significant because it has changed the lifestyles of many people. Many people use Reddit everyday for different purposes, some of the most popular reasons being related to personal anecdotes. Although I don’t use Reddit too often, if I ever have lingering thoughts in my head before bed, such as my fear of losing a loved one, I’m able to find a plethora of descriptive discussions on Reddit regarding these darker topics. Because content on Reddit is created by users, you can find discussions on pretty much any topic you like.

Personally, Reddit is a place that helps me cope with the struggles in life. By reading these relatable anecdotes and even having discussions about these troubles, I learn that I am not alone.
All in all, after observing the impact that Reddit has on the lives of people, including mine, I can confidently say that Aaron Swartz’ dream of “making the world a better place” has definitely come into fruition.
After hearing that we would be making our own websites soon, I got really excited. It’s always been my dream to have my own website.
Initially, I was just going to use my own name as the domain website, but then I gave it some thought and chose to use a unique nickname instead. Ultimately, my great idea for an online nickname was to call myself Paper Pig. The inspiration for this name actually came from an Instagram post I made over two years ago, where it shows a sketch of a pig holding a pencil.
However, before I finalized my decision, I made sure that the name I chose was unique and never used before. I googled the phrase, “paper pig” into google, and thankfully, the only results that showed up were images and links relating to Peppa Pig, a famous children’s cartoon. After making sure “paperpig.com” and “paperpig.net” weren’t taken, in the end, I made the decision to make the domain of my website “paperpig.net”.
Why the name, Paper Pig? Well, for starters, both words in the name have special meaning. The first word, “Paper” is a term to show my artistic side. I enjoy many things, which include drawing, building figures, making desserts, painting, using Photoshop, learning how to design websites, and I’ve even tinkered with video game design a short while back. Also, as I’ve learned in User Experience Design, all ideas start on paper, no matter how complex the project may be.

I’ve chosen the word “Pig” to be in the name because I absolutely love pigs. Not only are they cute, they are also friendly, loyal, and most notably, they are intelligent creatures. They are extremely social animals and even enjoy listening to music (a hobby that I partake in on a daily basis).
Aside for my love for pigs, I’ve always found animal-styled avatars to be more creative than human avatars. Personally, I think it would be really interesting for a pig to be an artist/designer.
As for the content on the website, I actually have the intention of making this website a portfolio for any future jobs I may apply for. I would primarily be uploading design projects I’ve done, however, I’d still like to include more recreational works like personal drawings and paintings. I would also include some info about myself, like a short bio describing my interests and goals.

Last week we began talking about Domain Names and what role they play in creating a digital identity on the web (and as a part of this class.) If you missed last week’s post on that, please review it here first as it has context and will help make this next step a bit smoother.
This week we are going to get started! We are going to register a domain name and also set up web hosting, which will allow you to put files up online and will be discoverable through your new domain name! We are going to use a form of ‘shared hosting’ where you get a portion of a server – think of it as having an apartment in a building. With this shared hosting you will be able to do a lot of things including installing your own instance of WordPress (remember, this is NOT wordpress.com) so you can start building your website for your domain name.
We use a company called Reclaim Hosting, with which we have a contract with so you will enter a coupon code and start your account for free.
*The coupon code will be e-emailed to everyone via blackboard on the morning that your class meets during week #7 – so please check your York College e-mail address to get the coupon code. (the code can only be used one time)
We chose this hosting company because they have a lot of experience working with students just like you, that are likely getting their first domain name and web hosting account. You will be creating an account just like you would with any online vendor with which you want to purchase something. So it’s not a ‘CUNY’ account, we’re just giving you the coupon code to pay for the year’s service.

With that said, you will need to provide a name, address, and phone number. Lets go to this sign-up page <— to get started.
1. First you will need to pick your domain name, make sure that it is available and make your selection to proceed.
2. On the next page, check the ‘add ID protection.’
3. On the next page you should see two items in your cart and a price of $32 with ID protection, you will then enter the needed information for your account and provided coupon code and validate it. (you will NOT be charged for this, its already included in the course.)
4. Your total should now be $0. If it is not then check the items and your cart and adjust.
5. You should now fill in your personal information, and select the payment by mail option. (again, you will not be charged anything.)
6. Complete the order and check your email for your account information and a verification of your e-mail. With your new account information, log-on to Reclaiming Hosting.
7. YOU ARE NOW ALL SET AND READY TO START WORKING WITH YOUR NEW DOMAIN NAME AND WEB HOSTING ACCOUNT!

Ah, The world of GIF’s and memes in many ways meme and gifs have bought people together although it may sound weird if you look at it from a very different way you will notice that throughout this year alone the memes and about Black Lives Matter, Police Activity has shaped this world into a massive movement.
The world is now starting to push away from its dark past and trying to usher in a new world of humans the 1900’s era is almost over soon many people from that time period will be long gone but the memes and gifs will be our history will be our shining moment.
But to me memes and GIF’s are what makes us who we are and from what I can tell it will last forever!
