Assignment #5: Digital Storytelling Project Flexibility

First I must say that the exposure to these new website platforms like DS 106 and daily create are refreshing and always welcome. Photopea is always great for photo editing, I must say.

Onto the first website DS106,
All of these choices are solid, but I’m first inclined to choose video assignments, with photo being a close second. I also must say that the audio ones are very tempting. As I have my own podcast. (On anchor, “Adroit Shenanigans”. I made an impressive couple of collages on iMovie for recreational reasoning really. Whether it was a montage or otherwise so I would be confident in tackling such a venue.
In terms of a option presented on the site,
I like the look of this one. To add music over a clip is certainly what I have experience in with iMovie, so it should translate.

When It comes to what is needed to learn for completion….

I honestly, would need to identify a platform that is suitable to the job. And see more examples to get a clearer reference. Perhaps I could make a return in some fashion to iMovie to assist in this project. I aim to build both emergent storytelling skills and use new tools to create this and many more projects. I envision that would do a few of these types of projects in this  model over the course of the semester. The skills are pivotal because they Video editing and collaboration is a key component in the digital era we live in, and could bring many opportunities if I have further experience, thus I’d be brave enough to finalize one or two. I might want to branch out into other alternatives as well and use the website to the max potential it may provide.

Video is a great outlet, but photo’s as a solid option is not to be ignored.

Photopea.com

For the daily create website, there are a plethora of options. A catalog of quirky assignments, that are all very interesting to look at. It reminds me of Craigslist haha. I would opt for the emophoto. A photo that illicits a certain emotion in the reader.

I appreciate and admire that the submissions are on Twitter as well. See below.

As for my personal selection out of my own collection, I will post a photo of me and my acting mentor below. I ask what emotion does it illicit for you?

It was part of an after school program where we met, the smart partners. Where a mentor hangs out with you on top of creating a writing plays. He’s a expert in standup comedy so it made all of our work. I spent quite a few years in the acting ensemble by the name of the 52nd street project, so it I would consider my acting skills quite involved haha. Even after I aged out of the program, we kept in touch to this day as adults.

Assignment #4: Passion

Passion. Best defined as: strong and barely controllable emotion. Raw euphoria at it’s finest.

It’s a big component in my life, and a trait I utilize. Mostly, I’m passionate about soccer, and in particular my beloved team ARSENAL. When they win, it gives me a massive lift for the rest of the week. Sensational.

Other passions I have are cooking, Family Guy, and Yugi-Oh. It’s interesting to list some of the most pertinent passions of mine, but those I’m confident in indefinitely.

Learned cooking from my dad was amazing, in a time where fast food and take out is pricey beyond belief. My top two dishes were a pork roast with blue berry glaze and asparagus. Over saffron rice.

https://www.tablespoon.com/recipes/blueberry-balsamic-pork-tenderloin/559b41d3-0b55-4af6-b8f1-97a12f53dcb7

Also chicken francese, which is chicken with I recommend trying both, but the latter more-so. Here’s a video recipe on how to make it. Both were very fun to make, I enjoy the process. Also divine in flavor.

Family Guy is such a comedic relief, I’m always trying to gather fans for the show. That being said, I love every episode and it’s a great tool to unwind after work. Favorite character has to be Stewie. His British accent, while being a baby that never grows up is hilarious.

As for Yugi-Oh,

I remember seeing the first movie in New Jeresy in the year of 2004. Two days before my sister was born. Incredible that I cannot find The plot and characters are engaging, but it just elevates a measure in confidence in me. Very precious memory to me, I got the DVD for nostalgia purposes. It establishes a sense of assurance for me. Odd, yet it works for me.

Even going back a couple years to see the sequel, It sparked a lot of nostalgia  and some aspects were applicable or translated to my life in my estimation. Takes a keen eye to make such a connection, but it gave me a lot of courage in transitional time in my life.

Lastly, I also am passionate about playing soccer. I am on the college soccer team, but play with a local crew that I have established a identity and bond with. It’s recreational but very competitive. I love these cleats below. I play usually as a left-back/center back. I have an enjoyment for tackling, when I block a shot it’s so invigorating.

Assignment #3: Should Memes Be Considered A Form Of Art?

In my opinion i’d say 100% say memes are indeed a form an art !

https://artzealous.com/the-rise-of-memes-as-an-art-form/

The link I included above is an article about an art exhibit of memes from a Puerto Rican artist known as Jesus Bubu Negron. He uses his artwork to create memes about politics.

Memes can be considered a form of art since it comes in many different appearances. The second link I inserted above explains how memes are a form of PopArt which is indeed art.

As someone who has a love for memes I can say it is more than a form of self expression.  Memes are a good way to communicate if you want to send a message to someone and add a bit of razzle dazzle to the text. I believe memes are a great way to incorporate dark humor without feeling the guilt of being shady.

Of course memes can be used for storytelling! Sometimes words can not do justice like a good meme. I speak for myself when I say that I am a visual learner so I prefer to see media in a presentation or lecture. Although, there are times where memes should not be used.

Here is a little snapshot of my three favorite memes of all time currently.

Lately I have been feeling exactly like D.W. from Arthur in this meme above. The funny part is I have not started going to the gym yet

Guilty, there are times I do take almost more then 5 minutes to order food and I know people do get annoyed.
During the covid lockdown when all classes switched to online and I had this one class. We were all required to have our cameras on at certain times during the class at 8 am. Needless to say I was over it and just wanted classes to return in person.
Once I submit a post I feel like I accomplished something even if I barely did anything but still feels good.
After reading my suggestions to revise my blog posts, just kidding I am so grateful to receive feedback to help me improve my work.

assigment 4 passion

the word passion means to have a strong liking or desire for or devotion to some activity, object, or concept like a passion for chess a passion for opera. and to be passionate is to denote strong and intractable or barely controllable emotion or inclination with respect to a particular person or thing.

whenever  I think about things to be passionate about to me is to love someone or something.

I love a lot of things but the things I love most are anime and cosplay movies especially ones from marvel and dc nations growing up from age 4 to now I would watch marvel and dc nation movies.

my favorite hero is logan aka wolverine aka jimmy the brother of saber tooth and father of his unknown daughter he is my favorite and first  superhero to love and still do

with anime, my fav is dangaropa where my fav character i love to cosplay as, and is one of my comfort characters nagito and Junko when I’m them or someone else it feels right and fun to be anyone but I, and i love me but its fun to be a different and whole new person

from looking at this video you see the animation and affects and time that goes into making great anime or any anime and makes you wonder what happens to make the world of anime become this way to be filled with despair.

whenever I think of passion I remember things that i love that make me happy the happiest I ever am and that will never change.

Professor Michael Smith introduced me to the DS106 Assignment Repository many many years ago..

I am glad that he did!

Now that we are getting comfortable with publishing blog posts to our class website, embedding media like images, GIFS, memes, videos and hyperlinks, it’s time to push things further with content creation and deciding on how you will go about it.

yoda meme

Prof. Smith wrote the following in a blog post from a previous semester;

“In CT-101 you will have the opportunity to create many, many different pieces of media throughout the semester. Inspiration for these projects can come from a number of places. Two great websites that inspired this class and are hosted by a digital storytelling class at the University of Mary Washington.

One, is their ds106 assignment repository which has project prompts that are categorized by a variety of media types (visual, design, audio, video, mashup, writing, fanfic, and animated gifs). Visitors can browse through and sort by most examples completed, most viewed, newest, and more..

The second, is also a site known as the daily create which gives a daily project prompt to “make something” using various types of media.

Finally, you, yourself can also find a particular website that has a media piece and/or project type of interest to you – Tumblr and/or Reddit can be fun for this – Photoshop Battles is a favorite of mine.

Do you know of one? If so, share that link here!

*The ASSIGNMENT – (assignment #5)

In a New Blog Post this Week – Let us address and execute the following:

Browse through the mentioned websites above (ds106 & daily create) and find two projects that you think you would like to do.

1.One that you believe you already have the skills to do – or you believe you could figure out on your own.

2. And another (hopefully of a different media type) you don’t know how to do yet and would like to learn.

Working from the DS106 site, the Daily Create site or otherness – select, describe and hyperlink to two assignments/project ideas and tell us why you’ve chosen them. What do you think you’d need learn to complete them? How many of these kinds of projects do you think you should be doing in this semester so that you might learn and build both emergent storytelling skills and use new tools to create them? Why do you think these skills are or are not important?

Be sure to narrate your steps and support your descriptions with screen shots of the process. Be sure to actually complete one of the assignments and add it into your blog post.

***Please pay attention to proper blogging formatting – this post is an example of the necessary amount of embedded media types and written text to support the process.

***Also, be sure to leave a comment or two on one or more of your classmate’s blog posts!

Below – Photopea.com is a great web browser based image editing and manipulation tool – much like a watered down version of photoshop but it has great immediate creative power – we will discuss and share some ways that photopea can come in handy for this assignment

screen shot of the photopea.com website

Here is a great video tutorial for HOW to use and work with photopea – its easy and super fun to work along side of, Im excited to see what you will do!

Have fun and reach out of you need help or have questions, you add your questions to the comments section below!

Passion – Assignment 4

When I think about the things we’re passionate about I think about the things we love, the things we cannot live without.  I love Comic books and superheroes. They’ve entered just about every aspect of my life, they’re the back ground to my phone and computer, they’re what I read on the train and in my spare time, they’re what most of content that my various social medias and youtube suggest for me.

A quick glance at my youtube will show an assortment of superhero content. I love hearing about what character is stronger, or what various adventures some of these characters that I’ve loved for YEARS.

Some of these characters don’t even feel fictional to me. To everyone this is Iron Man to me this is Tony. As wacky as that sounds he’s more like a close friend to me, close enough to call his by his first name.  I love this man and his cape wearing and shield throwing friends.

Thanks for letting me nerd out everyone !!!

Are MEME’s ART? Assignment #3 – FINAL

Click meme for link to makeameme.org

Memes provide an engaging way to narrate a story, albeit not in the conventional way. They allow for a distinctive and meme-ish way of storytelling.

According to, The Harvard Crimson, “a meme is an idea, behavior, or style that becomes a fad and spreads by means of imitation.”

For instance, Kermit’s meme has been widely employed to narrate tales. Memes have emerged as a more engaging mode of storytelling because, in today’s fast-paced world, few people have the time to read traditional books and news.

Although memes may receive lower ratings from critics than traditional art forms, it shares many similarities. One of these similarities is their ability to tell stories, which I will elaborate on.

The YouTube video embedded above puts forth the argument that memes satisfy the standards for being classified as art, as defined by Leo Tolstoy. According to Tolstoy, art involves using movements, lines, colors, sounds, or forms conveyed through language. As a result, memes can be regarded as a form of creative expression since they exhibit many of these same qualities.

Click meme for link to makeameme.org

Art Zealous offers an insightful perspective on memes as a form of art and draws a parallel to “Andy Warhol’s work, which often involved appropriating images from pop culture, not unlike the way memes are created today. Pop artists blurred boundaries in an attempt to elevate “low” culture to “high” art.”Similarly, memes take everyday images and concepts and turn them into a form of art that is accessible and relatable to a wide audience.

Click meme for link to makeameme.org

By utilizing meme art, I narrate my tale about the origins and objectives of storytelling with memes. Websites such as makeameme.org and creativecommons.org are sites that offer open-source access to everyone. These sites allow anyone to copy and download free images and modify them for educational purposes without the risk of legal action, such as being sued. However, you may be asked to take down your meme by the original artist/photographer/creative or the company that owns the image.

*Tip: To create a free meme – Select an image from creativecommons.org, copy it, upload to makeameme.org, add text.

According to Digital Trends, Are memes the pop culture art of our era? “good is an entirely subjective and often fraught concept in the arts. There may be critics who deride the choice of subject matter” Ultimately, beauty is a matter of personal perception, as the saying goes, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”

My definition of art is anything that stimulates the mind to think, wonder, recreate, and repurpose, regardless of the medium it was made with.

Click gif for link to giphy.com

When discussing Memes: Is it Art, The Courier, a British online newsletter, says, “it is interpersonal and subject to change depending on what community you ask.” It can also depend on the generation asked.

Click gif for link on giphy.com

Memes were, in fact, created prior to the recent generation. How To Geek What is a Meme (and How Did They Originate?) states, “Memes have been around since long before the internet existed. In fact, they have been around since before Dawkins coined the term, showing up as early as 79 AD in a Pompeii ruin and as late as the 1970s in graffiti.”

Banksy, the Bristol-born street artist, creates compelling narratives and messages through his art. In the recording below, he confronts capitalist greed. This is just one of the many themes he explores in his shows.

Click on the recording above to hear a narration about Banksy’s “Festival” artwork.
The above video is a photo taken by J. Morton @ the 2023 Bansky exhibit in Tribeca, NY. The image was converted into a jpeg, added to iMovie, and paired with an original audio recording of the narration used in the exhibit.

Bansky’s politically, and socially conscious art prompts viewers to contemplate the world and institutions we exist in, not just the artwork itself. I’ve recently become a fan of Banksy’s work because it challenges and stimulates discussions about the nature of art. As a result, he is widely recognized as one of the most insightful artists of our time.

Click gif for link on giphy.com

I was fortunate enough to visit his exhibition, where I had the chance to witness this collection firsthand. If you’re interested in seeing the show, click here to purchase tickets, and you will experience this thought-provoking art for yourself.

I manipulated two images below of Bansky’s original artwork and converted those images into gifs through giphy.com. I also added captions to express my excitement about the new skills I am learning in CT101.

Click gif for link on giphy.com “Hustler Club,” artist Bansky, Photograph of poster taken by J. Morton @ 2023 exhibit, Tribeca, NY.

I customized Bansky’s pieces into something entirely different than his intention for the art, using it for my own purposes to add to this blog. I believe that the purpose of all art should be to share.

Sharing your memes can help you gain a “following” on social media.  Memes have become a prevalent aspect of online culture, particularly on platforms like Reddit, which can serve as a community hub for meme-sharing in storytelling and satire.

Click gif for link to giphy.com

Repurposing has been a common practice throughout history, and some may argue that art is meant to be repurposed to inspire or provoke thought.

Click gif for link on giphy.com “Girl with Balloon,” artist Bansky, photograph of poster taken by J.Morton @ 2023 exhibit, Tribeca, NY.

The question of whether memes qualify as art opens up a broader discussion about our definition of art rather than limiting the conversation to the digital medium used. It recognizes that memes can be a mode of creative expression and prompts us to consider how they can be situated within the wider landscape of artistic expression.

The Verge The story of the internet, as told by Know Your Meme “argues that meme culture isn’t malevolent so much as it is amoral; it’s a mirror held up to the culture of the internet, which “increasingly does not care about the truth, and cares only about the narrative, the myth.” Similarly, creative works such as novels, poems, and screenplays are adapted, reimagined, transformed, and adjusted to provide diverse sources of inspiration and entertainment. I’m certain that there was discussion at some point in the past regarding whether the medium utilized in photography and film should also be classified as art.

Click image for link to photo on knowyourmeme.com

My first encounter with memes was during the era of the “Planking” trend. While browsing the website ThrillList.com. I was reminded of 2010, my Planking days. According to knowyourmeme.com, “Planking is a photo fad which involves lying face down with arms to the sides in unusual public spaces, photographing the scene, and sharing the image online.”

Click gif link on giphy.com

Although I was heavily involved in the Planking movement and planked in various locations, including stairs, streets, and fire escapes, I regret to inform you that I will not be sharing any of my Planking images. However, you might be able to find one floating around the depths of cyberspace, though.

ASSIHNMENT#3-MEME

Internet memes are able to communicate complicated ideas through humor, satire, and irony, making them a type of digital art. They may not conform to conventional notions of art, but they reflect modern culture and have the power to inspire and influence artistic creativity.

Will we one day find the front page of Reddit in the Louvre museum?

Memes may be visual platform but they are not an art form.

memes are art.

The Internet meme meets the bill if the goal of art is to represent a human reality, even though art is always growing. We utilize memes, like many other types of art, to comprehend, analyze, and communicate ideas about the world we live in. Internet memes exhibits emphasize their significance and honor them as cultural icons.

There is disagreement on how memes affect art. While some contend that memes diminish the worth of conventional art, others regard them as a type of digital art that captures modern culture. The use of memes and whether they encourage or impede innovation will ultimately determine how they affect art. Depending on their context, substance, and audience, memes can be beneficial or detrimental for communication.

Memes are forms of self-expression that give people a relatable and humorous outlet for expressing their thoughts and feelings. But, they are more than just a means of self-expression because they have the ability to affect societal concerns, reflect cultural attitudes, and alter public conversation. The value of memes ultimately rests on how well they connect with and influence their audience.

By fusing text and graphics in a narrative that is both amusing and educational, memes can be utilized for storytelling. They may be employed to narrate private narratives, address contemporary societal issues, or parody popular culture. Memes are a great narrative tool in the digital age because they are frequently utilized online to humorously and ironically express complex topics.

my favorite memes are :

These three memes are al time favorite to me.
Finding a harmony between comedy and authenticity is important when creating a narrative that combines memes and personal experiences. I can communicate relatable feelings and experiences while also using comedy and satire to engage and entertain the audience by using memes to represent personal experiences. The secret is to intelligently use memes without sacrificing the sincerity and openness of human narrative.

User-friendliness, features, and customizability of meme-making software differ. Canva, Imgflip, and Adobe Spark are a few of the well-liked choices. Imgflip offers more control but might be overwhelming for beginners, whereas Canva is simple to use but lacks advanced editing features.

Although Adobe Spark is flexible, a subscription is necessary. In addition to a large collection of templates and assets, a new tool might provide a good combination of advanced functionality and user-friendliness.

Assignment #2- Giphy madness

I think engaging content makes. blog post successful, like by adding things like a call to action or a gif or joke something that keeps the reader alert and wanting to read more.Looking back at my first assignment I definitely didn’t reach anywhere near what good blogging is,honestly I didn’t put much thought on  it I just wanted to get it done.

The first day of CT101 was so fun and inspiring to me. I was not too ready at first but as the class when on and the professor was speaking I was so motivated and so inspired. I was telling as many people as possible about the speech the professor gave.

In addition to that, hearing the professor talk about how the class was gonna go, I felt a wave of relief.

Most teachers have such a heavy workload so knowing this was a class where I could be creative and not have such a heavy workload was such a relief.

Compared to all my other classes CT101 seems to be very easy, I have so many essays I’m going to have to write for my other classes, so knowing this class isn’t as work-heavy is incredible.

I feel like on the internet people lose themselves trying to fit in, One of the creative potentials I can think of from this class is that it will allow people to learn how to express themselves and be as creative as they want without feeling the pressure of being confined to a “trend” box.

Learning how to use new internet tools has been extremely helpful for me, especially as someone who wants to pursue a career as a content creator and  YouTuber

As for storytelling with gifs I do think that there are many stories that can be told with a gif there are so many gifs from one image with different text that each tell us something about what the user was thinking or feeling. And for that reason i also think gifs will be here for a very long time and will just continue to grow and evolve so more people can communicate through the internet easier. I know that have evolved already to where you can choose which part of the picture moves.

I’m pretty excited about all the things I can learn from this class. I also think it’s pronounced G-if, i sometimes use J-if though it slips our easier than the other pronunciation.

Assignment1- Internet Happy

What makes me happy about the internet is the vast expansion of knowledge that we have at our fingertips. A worldwide known example of a part of the internet that gains us access to everything we need is the Google Search Engine, and something more recent that this generation has adapted to as a form of entertainment is the app Tiktok.
There are so many intricacies throughout the internet, specifically on Google and Tiktok, that we cannot possibly travel throughout all of it within the timeframe of one human lifetime.
All of the world’s information is universally accessible and shown through various mediums brought by Google, and we are able to find anything we want- esoteric texts, journalist and scholarly articles, images and videos, memes and gifs, scientific articles and fable literature, poetry and quotes, blogs to better yourself in a certain aspect- in is an infinite online library.
Tiktok on the other hand, is an app where people can view, create, or share quick videos from 15 seconds up to a minutes long. It can be videos focused on people promoting their business, advice being giving, story-time videos, or viral dances and funny entertainment. It can also be used to expand the brand of both celebrities and non- famous people.
What Google and Tiktok has in common is both in today’s times especially by ‘Generation Z’ can be used as a search engine; although Tiktok has gained much popularity within the past few years, it is still not as known and been around for as long as Google. Tiktok only offers videos, majority based on other’s opinions, while Google produces access to all forms of resources and texts.
I usually use Google in my daily life such as looking for information on a novel, the weather, definitions, advice, or educational resource, but Tiktok as entertainment to pass the time, similar to Youtube or Instagram.

Assignment 2: Making GIFs Blogs & Understanding the Internet

The first day of the CT 101 class, I didn’t think much of it because I already took CT201 with Professor Seslow so I had similar expectations to last semester. I believe that this course would be a better introduction course compared to CT201, which it is.

I understood the main goal of this course and the creative content that we would all go through and look at. I feel like that if you keep with the pace of the course, you can learn many interesting things that would benefit you in the future. I like the idea that we are able to use gifs in our assignments to express how we feel about a certain topic.
Compared to my other classes that I am taking this semester, CT101 is a nice well-rounded course that allows me to step back and look at other types of content. This course is a nice refresher with having Professor Seslow take us through this course. The other course that I am currently taking is geared towards my major is Information Systems. As this course being a different topic compared to information systems allows for me to relax and see a different perspective of digital content.
The creative potentials of this class as discussed before would be to create blog posts, the use of gifs, creating a website, and learning about digital technology. I believe that this class would allow students to express their minds on how creative they can be. They can express their thoughts by using gifs and animated pictures rather than using words.
I believe that the Internet provides us with a lot of new information that would allow us to gain new skills. From a few clicks away, you can search anything up on the Internet and can have information show on your screen instantly. This allows us to acquire any type of knowledge from the comfort of our own homes.

Assignment 2 GIFS

What did you think on the first day of the CT101?

On the first day of class, I was kind of nervous and also excited at the same time. I felt nervous about meeting new people and introducing myself, but I was excited about the course because it seems like a very fun class to take.

Did you like hearing about the course and its creative content? How did it make you feel?

Upon hearing about the course and its content, I thought that it was relatively easy work, but also knew that if I waited too long and let the work pile up I would feel overwhelmed.

How does CT101 compare to some of your other classes so far?

CT101 is definitely a lot more convenient for me. I like how everything is much easy to access and not as nerve-racking as the traditional ways professors usually teach, e.g. with long textbooks and outdated learning materials. But at the end of the day, these are still classes that I need to pass.

GIFS, GIFS, More GIFS

Don’t mind me, just struggling to figure out my major…as always. Originally I had a psych class but the night before school started I dropped it and replaced it with this Communications class. “Why Communications?” You may ask. Well, I’ve seen many people (literally one person in a random youtube video comment section) say that they went into communications because they didn’t know what to major in. So I thought “well why not”.

At first, I was nervous because you know who’s not nervous about the first day of your new class? But once I entered class my nerves slowly went away. Being in the computer room, surrounded by good people, and a good professor made this class a lot more enjoyable. Professor Ryan kinda gives off Sikowitz vibes and not Sikowitz’s odd side but his creative side. Which is how I knew I was going to enjoy this class. Please don’t see this as a diss professor, I mean this in a good way!

Although I was nervous on the outside, on the inside I was excited. First of all the name itself, “Digital Storytelling” caught my eye instantly. I love going digital and I love storytelling. It’s a match made in heaven honestly. Also, after reading the class description I figured this was way up my alley. Having to design and build an online identity is something I do often. Some examples are, I share my sim pictures on Tumblr and I used to post video edits on Instagram. So knowing that I’ll be creating and sharing things digitally made me excited.

The creativity that is put into this class makes this my favorite class out of all of them. Of course, English class needs some type of creativity but writing essays back to back makes me burnt out after a while. Now I don’t have any creative ideas left. I’m also very limited in what I can do in English class. But in CT101 I can write AND link things in a blog post. I don’t have to bore myself with writing when I can also include gifs and link videos which makes my writing more fun.

This class has limitless potential in terms of creativity. We can explore the potential for producing art, multimedia projects, and more through this course. Like how we were supposed to make out own gif and include it in this blog post. I never made my own gif before but this is my first ever gif. It’s in honor of one of my favorite twitch streamers finally getting unbanned, BruceDropEmOff. I made it using imgur since all the other gifs I used were from giphy. It took me a while to learn how to use imgur and how to make gifs on there but I got it. Giphy is easier to use in my opinion.

Speaking of learning about gifs, learning new abilities that make use of internet resources is thrilling. There are constantly new tools and approaches to learn and explore due to the internet’s ever-evolving technology. I explored the history of gifs and did you know that the first color picture online was a gif (Smithsonian)? No? Me neither! But it’s fun to learn random internet facts when you’re always on the internet.

The internet is a fantastic resource for learning new things and expanding one’s knowledge base. Gifs are merely one of the many ways you may express yourself and produce something original. The options are unlimited with so many tools and resources. So let’s get to gif-ing!

Assignment 2

What did you think of the first day of CT101?

Going into class I knew it was gonna be sporadic, the students introducing themselves as well as a rundown of the course. Overall it was so far so good in terms of the first day.

Did you like hearing about the course and its creative content? How did it make you feel?

The creative content of this course is what makes me look forward to taking it. As I am a particularly creative person myself. It’s awesome that I get to do what I like in this class.

How does CT101 compare to some of your other classes so far?

CT 101 is a lot more creative than a vast majority of my classes I’ve taken at York. With the exception of ENG 286 Intro to creative writing, which I took last semester. It certainly stands out in comparison to most classes.

What are the creative potentials of this class?

I feel like I can show my interests as well as tell interesting stories via creativity. I feel like I can think out of the box more often and use my imagination to make more interesting content.

How do you feel about learning new skills that use internet tools?

I feel stoked that I get to be creative. That I get to do things such as tell a story via GIFs as well as learning new was to be creative via the internet.

Let’s get creative!

Let’s get Narrative!

A few of my colleagues in the Journalism department have taken CT101 and I said Aha! let me give it a shot (I am glad I did). When Prof. Ryan talked about what we would be doing throughout the semester, it was delightful to hear. I am a creature who loves learning everything and anything. Also, thanks to Steve Wilhite for creating this type of format because that is how we are making this assignment possible.

I like challenging myself, I like to get creative, I like to explore the land of the unknown … something like COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY.  I like to make mistakes, fix them and hopefully never make them again.

I am accepting the challenge of getting creative because in my field of study (journalism) I have to stick to the facts and there isn’t space for creativity. I am taking 15 credits this semester, and this is the class that has allows me to kick back a bit and don’t stress too much.

I made my own accounts for Giphy and Imgur. I found it easier to make GIFs with GIPHY than with Imgur. I think because we got introduced to GIPHY first, maybe? I feel more comfortable working with it, something about it is more familiar. I am still not giving up on Imgur, I’ll poke around more until I get to create something I am proud of. I am hoping to expand my knowledge with both platforms and other technological outlets.

This weekend I spend time making some GIFs with using Drake and 21 Savage’s new music video “Spin bout U” from their collab album “Her Loss” which I am sure many of you have heard of it. I actually enjoyed it very much! make sure you check them out, I made about 4-5 GIFs (like the one below). GIFs have become a way of expression for many people, including myself, I can’t wait to get some free time to create some more. It is a very entertaining way to express our thoughts and feelings! Feeling flattered because GIFs are a millennial like me 🙂
