#5 Domain Name

Never have I thought of starting and owning a website of my own if not for CT101 class.  Talking about things that interest me, there is actually quite a lot. Besides being a science student and a math tutor, my other interests include traveling, playing video games (currently I play PUBG a lot),  listening to music/songs of various languages and genres, I am also a foodie who loves cooking.  There are a lot of things in my head that I could use my website for, so for time being, I prefer to keep my domain name choices to be broad at the same time simple and easily accessible. I would love to start as a personal blog/vlog and work along with time. Therefore, my possible choices of domain names are:

  1. itsmeaj.com
  2. ajcorner.com
  3. thisisaj.com
  4. itsajtime.com
  5. iamanju.com
  6. anjuachu.com

AJ is my nickname, a short form for Anju. Some of the cool and interesting websites that I love are:

  1. HowStuffWorks – Their blog posts are super cool and informative. It is a website that explains thousands of topics. As the name suggests it also shows videos and illustrations of how things work.
  2. SuperCook –  This website helps us cook food with whatever ingredients we have at our home. All we do is enter the ingredients onto the website and based on that they find thousand’s of online food recipes.
  3. Kara and Nate -It is a travel blog/vlog of a couple that includes travel hacks, and other tips and information on how to travel budget-friendly. They also have a youtube channel which I really enjoy watching.

Aside From My Mid-Semester Stress, Here’s My Mid-Semester Progress

How am I doing in CT101? What grade do I believe I am maintaining?

We’ve reached the midpoint of our semester where many of us are reminded of the halfway distance towards freedom, whether it’s freedom from York because graduation, or freedom from the strain of distance learning. However, we’re also assessing how we might be doing and where we may need to pick up the slack before closing the book on this semester. For me in CT 101, I’d say I’m doing just average. I could be doing a hell of a lot better for sure. So maybe– a B.

What I’ve learned, most of all, would be how one can harness creativity in something as mundane as a class assignment. This  is a class where creativity in a class assignment is appreciated, and I do appreciate that myself. I don’t often get the chance to be creative with my writing as a journalism major. I think the greatest asset I’ve gained from the class so far is that I’m learning to use many tools that have existed on the internet that I’ve never used before, such as meme generators.

(I’m not one to create memes, I usually just laugh and share them).

As of this point in the semester, I’ve used my CT 101 digital skills to embed and create GIFs, generate memes, and explore meanings of art that go beyond the stroke of a paintbrush, pencil, pen or whichever artistic utensil you choose to create art with.

If I take the time to self-reflect and examine my performance, I would say I could use some improvement. There’s two assignments I’m missing, which includes the ds106 project. I kind of felt overwhelmed by that particular one and didn’t know where to start. Definitely should have reached out for help on that one…

There were TONS of things I didn’t know prior to the class. Some of it I mentioned before, like the meme generator websites to memes being a form of art. Maybe that last one was more of a “realization.”

I definitely see my weekly posts becoming more creative but more in thought than actual content, such as my last post with the domain names. I could definitely work on the content aspect, but part of it is just me, admittedly, slacking on some of the work. But each post is different, so you’ll get a different outcome for all of them, especially depending on how passionate you may be for a select post.

Are Memes Art

I began my research by googling, are memes art?
I then used this link to get some useful information on the origins of memes
Apparently the first meme exhibition was held in L.A in 2011.
Richard Dawkins was the first person to use the word meme. The word meme derived from the word mimeme which means imitation.

As art, memes allows the artist to convey your message in the most simplest form.
I love that memes let you share who are without stifling your personal creativity. We do not have to be a subject matter expert.

In my opinion, the more relatable the meme is to the viewers the better it is.

This is one of my favorite memes because I witnessed things like this on a daily basis before. Not fun to do but fun to watch.

I am currently taking five classes with a full time job and in the process of moving. This is my source of power.
So far I love CT101. I do not feel stress during class and I get to do my work on my own time.

INTERNETS OWN BOY

After watching the documentary over the weekend I thought about when I saw it the first time because it felt like I’d seen it before. And I believe it was 2019 at an ENT100 class during my brief time at…

In 2013, when all this was happening, to be honest, I was too busy focusing on digging myself out of a hole I put myself in during my 20’s and make something of myself as a bus driver.

  Obligatory bus driver selfie

But anyway. This is not about me. It’s about Aaron Schartz. The NYC street spic in me just has to get this out of the way…

And the @$$hole in me that can’t help but find the humor in any situation can’t help but ask really Aaron!?..

Guys like Aaron are far few between. He didn’t go about his activism the way most did, and still do. I remember him and Edward Snowden being scapegoats for the Governments excuse to have complete control over all data and its distribution. By the end of this complete viewing I can say with a clear head that a portion of Aaron Schwartz blood is on Barack Obamas hands. And until his dying day, as we glorify him for all the obvious woke reasons. It has to be someone’s job to every now and then remind him of this egregious fuck up. Watching the documentary gave me goosebumps and made me want to tackle the topic myself, my way, on a possible future episode of  A_StranJ_Perspective. Because if there’s anything this man, his movement, many and I have in common. It’s the fact we share the same sentiment of…

Aaron

An idea that I relate to from Aaron is always challenging society. Many people in society believe that we have to follow every single thing such as getting married at a certain age, working 9-5 every day to maintain a standing in society, and more. People always question their life choices and think that they could do better for themselves. I agree with always challenging ourselves to do better and trying to find new ideas in life, things that we like to do, do not let society think for us. I have seen some friends of mine doing things that they like to do, earning money on their own time by doing things like trading and i thought that was cool. They are not following society’s standards and are making money in different ways. I see people thinking for themselves and standing up for things and it made me smile seeing them being better versions of their selves.

Domain name

The video helped a bit, I understand the reason for choosing a domain name wisely. I had actually thought about making my own website a few months ago, but I did not plan to take any action. What I wanted to do I cannot do yet so I did not even think about it. What is that? I want to make comics/videos. I was planning to learn how to draw better, even at a drawing school. I plan to learn animation and if I ever get enough money, I would ask others to help me with it. This is definitely something that I plan to do, even if it takes me years to understand and start on it. I would definitely start posting drawings to my website, then try to slowly implement comics.

So, one of the things that helps me on this is my twitch name. How? Around the time where I had gotten on twitch, I was watching/reading a show and books that I didn’t hear about before. The name is Geronimo Stilton. People on twitch said that they loved the books whenever they saw me and that they liked the show as well. It made me think since I want to do animation and learn how to draw better, this name is fitting for me. I don’t use the name Geronimo Stilton exactly, but I use the name, Geronimo in the first part of my name. Since that, i got into the Geronimo books better and thought to use this name to brand myself when i start animation and comics.

Scholastic Paperbacks Geronimo Stilton 67 The Chocolate Chase - Linden Tree Books, Los Altos, CA

an idea of what geronimo stilton looks like.

Some domain names I can think of is

Geronimo-animations

Geronimo-ideas

Wilts-comics

Wilts-stories

Geronimo-wiltspassion

Wilts-episodes

Geronimo-episodes

I will try to think of more and/or better ones

DS 106

When it comes to the DS106, I know the 2 projects that I can do and would like to do.

This is the fanfic assignment. I had picked this one because I used to/ still kind of write fanfics. Not only is this something I can do, but it is also something that I have done. I wrote stories in high school on my own time. I would even jot down some ideas that I had during lunch and write them down when I got home. So I think that I would be able to do the fanfic assignment given here.

For this assignment with tina, I think I would be able to do this well. While I do not have specific tv shows that I can call my favorite, I can definitely do it for other shows. I can take in the anime shows that I have watched and use my favorite ones to give me ideas. Tv shows I can think of that I can use would be the big bang theory, family feud, and probably futurama.

The radio assignment is one that I would be willing to try. The reason I picked this one specifically is that I thought it would be very interesting to me to learn how to do a commercial back in the ’80s. When I read this and heard to put some background music and/or sound effects, I thought about the different effects from the shows I used to watch. I do not know what exactly I would use for sound effects, but I would try something creative.

” The Internet’s Own Boy” – Reflection

My Response

After watching the documentary ” The Internet’s Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz”, I was left feeling as though my own life was aimless. Hearing about how this young computer genius fought for access to online ( educational) documents that should be available for all and real political change in our country moved me in ways I didn’t expect.

An idea that stuck with me was touched on near the end of the documentary ( around 1:40:55) where Cory Doctorow a journalist and friend of Aaron discussed a teen who used some of the documents/journals that Aaron released out to the public to come up with a testing method for pancreatic cancer in its early stages. Doctorow said, ” … without access the person who might come up with the thing that’s got your number on it may never find that answer.” Swartz’s efforts allowed for this young teen to use these journals that would have otherwise been locked behind paywalls, being of use to only a few individuals.

Aaron’s story left me more motivated than anything. Motivated to make something of myself and work hard towards whatever goals I may pursue in the future, just like he did when all the odds were stacked against him.

Me getting ready to succeed in life.

Why midterms are important.

In his book When The Science Of Perfect Timing

Daniel H. Pink talks about the importance of timing especially

the beginning point ,                             the ending point and                                 the middle point.

Middle points have 2 benefits…

  1.  It allows us to PAUSE🛑  REFRESH🚰  REFLECT 🤔  on what has passed in before the midpoint.
  2. It allows us to reflect how we can improve the 2nd half. It gives us a chance to breath and start over.

Middle points are everywhere

  • mid day
  • Half time ( in most sports)
  • Mid month
  • Mid year
  • Mid quarter ( in business)
  • Mid life-  ( 40 years) makes us think how we lived their lives so far.

Or Midterms.

the point is.

You must CAPITALIZE on the middle points .

How do I assess my performance through self-reflection in this class?

As mentioned above timing is VERY important when you want to reflect on things.  However, timing isn’t the only thing.

Keeping track of the score.

You can’t really reflect on progress when you don’t even track what you

are doing. YOU MUST KEEP A PHYSICAL EXTERNAL SCOREBOARD.(PES)

Imagine if the NBA didn’t have a scoring board …Players would have to keep counting their own score and their opponents score.

This would be counterproductive for 2 reasons

  • Players would make more effort thinking about the score instead of  about the game….
  • They wouldn’t know where they stand ( if they are winning or losing)

Likewise you too should have a PHYSICAL EXTERNAL SCOREBOARD (PES) for classes……

My (PES) for CT 101

For my classes I use a zipper folder with a checklist for every week…..

Clearly defined tasks.

One very important element of the PES system is having clearly defined tasks. Your tasks must be clearly defined or you won’t know when you are done.

for me:

#1  is crossed when I publish  my blog

#2 is crossed  when I post a comment on someone’s blog.

#3 is crossed when I respond to someone’s comment or post another comment to another blog.

What have I learned the most? What is my greatest learned asset in this class so far? What skills have I developed , cultivated and displayed regularly in my posts? What do I know now that I did not know before taking this class?

1.Memes and trying humor.

I am not a funny person in real life. I am shy and awkward.

I never try to be funny in front of anyone, especially my classmates.

However, being behind a screen allows me to TRY

(So far I am getting positive feedback about the humor I am using in my blogs.)

In blog #4 – I used only MEMES to tell a story about how memes are really art.

Check it out here : https://ct101.commons.gc.cuny.edu/to-meme-or-not-to-meme/

2. Ideas come can come from any where. Keep your mind open for them.

When I was writing blog #5 https://ct101.commons.gc.cuny.edu/6257-2/

The bet that changed our minds – a post about the power of using mental constraints for creativity.

I was stuckkkkkkkkkk

I was stuck on giving my blog structure

You can’t have a story without structure.

I felt like I had the right pieces to the story but its just  didn’t

f

        l

              o

                      w………………………………Smoothly.

One night that week I  was watching the news

The reporter was talking about Dr. Seuss’s books .

then an idea struck me!

This reminded me of a blog I read 2 years ago about how dr. Seuss used only 50 words to write his best seller green eggs and ham.

I went back to the blog (which you can find here: https://jamesclear.com/dr-seuss

I decided to use Dr. Seuss’s story to start and finish my blog and link it to what I was writing about.

It worked.

3.Move things around until it feels right.

Sometimes the structure of the blog is obvious …. For example

In blog #2  https://ct101.commons.gc.cuny.edu/my-journey-with-ct101/

We had to use  GIFs  to capture our thoughts about CT101….

I decided to make 1 GIF for every single moment that I encountered with CT101 using chronological order ………

It worked really well…….HOWEVER

Most of the time, using chronological order is boring and doesn’t make a good narrative for non-fiction.

Like Legos…. sometimes we have the right pieces to the blog but there is no structure or story…..IT DOES NOT

f

        l

              o

                      w………………………………Smoothly.

To give your story structure.

Do this 3 step process

1.Break down the blog into different PARTS

2.Move the P A R T S around.

3.Connect each part to the next.

Example:

P A R T S

S P A R T

T A R P S

A P R T S

S P A R T

A R T P S

T A R T P

T R A P S

3 step process in action.

Example :  blog 3 https://ct101.commons.gc.cuny.edu/to-meme-or-not-to-meme/

After creating 20 Memes … I felt like I had the bricks but it was time to build a house.

1st  I grouped the similar  memes together……

2nd I moved them around

3rd I started to fill out the gaps by connecting each each section to the next.

Slooooooooooooooooowly but surely the non-obvious narrative became obvious….

4. kill your darlings…..Sometimes you have to get rid of a section.

Writing takes a lot of hard work so sometimes you become attached to the parts that you worked hard to write…

We don’t want to let go of our hard work. We don’t want our hard work to go in vain.

However sometimes letting go of certain parts  is  what’s best for the overall story.

For my first blog….I had to write about what makes me happy on the internet… check it here: https://ct101.commons.gc.cuny.edu/internet-therapy/

In my first draft I wrote down 2 things that made me happy on the internet

1.Finding good books and good book recommendations.

2. Reading YouTube comments.

I loved both parts. Yet they didn’t seem to fit into the same theme.

I decided to Kill #1.

After  I killed #1 , everything fell into its place and the blog felt just right.

5.Make time to write…..

I am proud of all my blog posts besides blog # 6 which was about the website ideas.

Check out here: https://ct101.commons.gc.cuny.edu/website-ideas/

I usually take 5-15 hours plus to write and edit my blogs because good writing requires full assed effort.

However on this blog I simply didn’t put in the effort and hours so it just came out crappy.

Do I see my weekly blogging work expanding creatively? If so, please explain –  or am I stuck in a loop where my posts seem to look the same most of the time, how will  I Change that?

Our own perception of how the semester will go …

Reality of how the semester will go …

Let’s be honest, we all can burn out sometimes…Especially with creative work.

That’s why you must PAUSE🛑  REFRESH🚰  REFLECT 🤔

if you don’t then your semester will end up like the second picture.

How am I doing in CT101? What grade do I believe I am maintaining?

What an easy question.

Picking A Domain Name!

The Idea

I never thought that I would be able to develop my own website growing up. I always thought that it was a long process that only people with years of experience in computers and coding could carry out. Now that I’m capable of doing so thanks to this class, I’m excited to design my own special place on the internet that’s reserved just for me and the many ideas flowing through my head.

Until I find a real use for my website ( using it for a potential future business, etc.), I think that I would revolve it around a recent hobby that I’ve picked up. Ever since the beginning of the pandemic, I’ve been practicing giving myself haircuts and attempting to learn more every day about the practice. If I were to base my website around this, I would upload pictures of every new haircut I give myself ( and perhaps my experience during the cut and what I have learned from it).

Here is a cut I did a few months ago.

I would also add a section to my website for people looking for information on how to get the waves hairstyle, including all of the things I have learned in my going on three years of experience with the style.

The Domain Names

There are a few names that I think would be great for my website. Here are a few of them down below:

  • jussdoescuts.com ( For people interested in haircuts)
  • cutsbyjuss.com ( Same as the one above but reworded, and I think the best)
  • jussthewaver.com ( For people interested in waves)
  • jusswiththebrush.com ( You need to do a lot of brushing to get waves)
  • jussbreezy.com ( A nickname that stuck with me through high school)

Be sure to let me know what you think of my website idea and these domain names for it!

Domain Name

I’ve recently got into reading manga and would like to create a website where I can share my Ideas on the ones I like. Some of the mangas I like Fire Punch, Berserk, Attack On Titan, and One Piece. I’m having troubling trying to come up with ideas for a domain name but I’m sure one will come to me eventually.

I’m also interested in financial literacy and would like to educate others who are interested in learning how to handle their money better so they can benefit in the long run. Some domain names I had were:

Fin-lit.net

invest-in-yourself.com

My other interests deal with films and filmmaking but I would need to do more research about this topic as well as how movies are produced, published, written and directed.

film-imo.com

imo-filmmaking.com

Domain Name To Be

I have been dreaming about having my own website for years. What has stopped me? Fear, mostly. But with the help of CT101, I know I will have the right tools and resources and I will succeed.

Although I am skilled in a numerous of things, my website will mainly consist of my writing, I just haven’t decided what I want to write about. I’m not clueless, just not sure. In our last class session, I shared that my biggest obstacle was being vulnerable and that is because I want to write about things unspoken, things that should be spoken about. The kind of “things” that we treat as normal, but aren’t, the things that keep us up at night.

What I have never thought about was a name for my domain, I suppose I just never got that far, but if not now then when. I aim to discuss the self that we typically suppress, whether it is due to dark thoughts or emotions, thus some possibly domain names are selfunknown, pleasedtomeetme, 1on1pillowtalk, monotalk (monologue), or midnightmono. What do you think?

I have thought of a solution for my fear, and it is a tactic often used by writers, to write under an alias until they have reached a certain point in their project/career. Some never give up their identity, I certainly would love to make myself known one day. After all, someone’s got to collect the credit. I don’t necessarily wish to avoid judgement, that isn’t my issue. Life has cruelly taught me to never let my guard down, but how can I ever make a change in the world if I don’t speak the truth many others carry as well. If not now, then when?

I don’t spend much time on the internet, but as for my favorite website, since 2008 it has been Tumblr. Tumblr allows one to express themselves in a range of ways and the best feature is being able to personalize and customize your HTML. Everything in my blog, the color, the borders, the spacing, the hover, has been personalized and chosen by me.

Internet’s Own Boy

Aaron Swartz

After watching The Internet’s Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz, I have come to the realization that our government gains its control over the people by withholding information that would empower us to demand change.  The moment in the documentary that impacted me the most was here, at 25:33-25:59.

Swartz had always been very clear about his intentions and they were never targeted toward bringing down the government, instead he only wanted to give people access to our supposed “public” domain. Swartz encouraged the people to dig deeper than instructed or expected, to question everything, to never settled, and he was charged as a criminal for it. A criminal, a felon, for obtaining what the government considered too much information. If you didn’t know knowledge is literally power, please understand this now. History repeats it self, and all that has happened in our country has been written down, kept track of, and mostly hidden or locked away. Doesn’t that bother you? To know that truth is being controlled and hidden? It bothered Swartz and those who followed him, it certainly bothers me and I can only hope one day to have half the courage Swartz did.

The government did not have to handle the Aaron Swartz case the way they did, but they NEEDED to make an example out of Swartz so that no one would ever dare repeat his actions. However, all our justice system really did was to teach other programmers and activist to be more careful, to work in silence. We must never give up. As long as we live in ignorance, we will forever be slaves and puppets. It is time to start questioning.

Mid-Semester Re-Cap

CT 101 Re-Cap

1. How am I doing in CT101? What grade do I believe I am maintaining?

I honestly feel that I am doing pretty good in CT 101. At first I wasn’t sure I would understand what we were learning, but it turned out to be pretty easy. It can be a challenge at times, but a good one where I learn something I hadn’t known before. I believe that I am maintaining a good grade, I follow the instructions and turn the work in on time.

2. What have I learned the most? What is my greatest learned asset in this class so far?

So far, I have mostly learned about the In’s and Out’s of graphic design. I never really saw myself as a graphic designer until I started CT 101. I’ve learned a lot about, blogging and citing sources, and just creating great art in general.

3. What skills have I developed , cultivated and displayed regularly in my posts?

I have definitely developed more on my writing and art skills. Well, creative/commentary writing really, especially with making the GIFs and Memes. I see that more often than not, my sense of writing like how I talk has improved a lot. (A Photoshop and Meme picture I created)

4. How do I assess my performance through self-reflection in this class?

Through self-reflection on my performance in this class, I’ve noticed that there are areas in which I could always improve. Whether it be, adding more pictures or hyperlinks. Each time I work on a new blog post, I improve.

5. What do I know now that I did not know before taking this class?

After being in the class for about 6 weeks now, I have a lot of things that I wasn’t aware of before. Like the DS106 application, that in particular is my favorite, it is a great tool to use to express yourself and create new and exciting content. (My DS106 Assignment Post Below)

The “Vogue Challenge”

6. Do I see my weekly blogging work expanding creatively? If so, please explain –  or am I stuck in a loop where my posts seem to look the same most of the time, how will I change that?

I have definitely that my weekly blogging continues to improve. With each new assignment, I find myself expanding my graphic design palette. Making different types of are and experimenting with new tools and websites. Because of this class, I am currently working on some new ideas for the upcoming assignment, where we will create our own websites. It seemed like a lot of work before, but now I am more motivated than ever.

My Domain Names

After reading this weeks assignment I figured I like where this was going  and never really put thought in what my Domain name would be but I got some things that I would post on my own website like story times, podcast, live streams, shoe pickups or just me talking crazy on a topic I find interesting. Keeping everything in mind some domain names I came up with are

AmChad.com

AmChadlive.com

AmChadsaid.com

Amcoppedup.com

Amunfiltered.com

Your probably wondering what the Am is for and ill tell you of course  usually in my group chat with my friends instead of using I’m in a sentence I would use Am and overtime my nickname in the chat just turned into AmChad

One of my favorite websites is YouTube and one of my favorite content creators is Fanum here a funny Storytime

from him enjoy
