Hiiii… I just created my website 😀

It was actually quite easy for me to do it with Professor Seslow’s tutorial. The steps to follow can be a bit confusing due to the number of options there are, but thanks to the video I didn’t get lost and I was able to do it.

It is exciting to know that I have my own website and this thanks to the college and Professor Seslow for the help. The steps are simple, but in one of the options it said “enter your email (for a better process use your personal email as your gmail)” or something like that, I did not know whether to use my York email or my personal email as recommended by the page. In the end use my York email.

Now I have to think about what my website is going to be about, I have a couple of ideas but I’m still not sure. One of them is to criticize songs, since personally I really like very deep lyrics that for some people it doesn’t say anything but for me it says a lot. So I would like to make criticisms of that and also of movies.

Another idea I have is to simply write down the things I think about what is currently happening. For example, talking about things about Covid 19 that I consider important, or things about my country (Ecuador) that I consider are wrong. In short words, say what I think and feel!

Well that’s it, my website is bryalbacg.com. As I explained in the last blog, the name of my page means this: Bry = Bryan (my first name), Al = Alfonso (my second name) and B A C G are the initials of my two name and my two lastnames, and this combination becomes in bryalbacg 🙂

Salam everyone!

Today I created my website. So exciting! I hope you guys feel the same way. Creating my domain name was the best part. Thankfully, my name was not one that was taken, so with one try I was able to make my Domain.

Unfortunately, there were things I disliked about the process, which was opening new tabs to get information. For example, going back to the zoom recording tab to see the next step and then recording my information in another tab so that I can save what I had so far.

It wasn’t a big deal. Everything went pretty quick. The process wasn’t the worst thing.

Heres my next step!

I will start thinking about what I will be talking about for my first post! Can’t wait for this!

In debating if Memes are considered to be art we must first look closely at both memes and art.

According to Oxford Languages, Art is “the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.”

However with new technologies art has evolved and there are new types of art such as graphical art with new medium such as the internet.

In the article ‘ The surprising academic origins of memes‘ by Erhan Asian, The Conversation, it is stated that “Meme creators use “multimodal grammar” (in other words, images and captions) to express and share ideas and opinions.” People who then share these memes on their social media platforms with their friends then add a personal meaning to memes.

Richard Dawkins, a British ethologist, evolutionary biologist, and author define a meme is “a unit of cultural transmission or imitation”.  It is said that memes are linked to evolutionary biology and have been compared to genes because of how memes flow with the evolution of culture.

with this we can see the academic and artistic component that memes of comprised of.

In my opinion Memes are art, with the facts I’ve listed above it is impossible to not see the connection between Art and Memes.

My CT101 meme

CT 101 continues to be my favorite class, adding new and exciting things for us to learn, like creating our own websites!

Setting up my domain on Reclaim Hosting was easy enough; all I did was create an account and use the code that Professor Seslow generously distributed to the class. Once I installed WordPress onto the control panel in Reclaim Hosting, I was able to finally generate and create my very own website!

I initially wanted my website to be paperpig.com, but apparently that domain name was already taken (which is strange, because when I typed searched it, nothing showed up). In the end, I decided to call my website paperpig.net.

I did run into one issue though. Every time I try to access the website after logging into my Reclaim Hosting account, it shows me this website in the image below.

The only way for me to have access to my actual website is to either use an incognito window or look at it using my phone.

I also took some time to look over the different kinds of customizations we would be using, and I have to say, I’m really excited for the future updates I’ll be making. I’m especially looking forward to playing around with the colors and theme options.

I hope that for the rest of the time I have in CT101, I’m able to create a beautiful, professional website that resonates my personality and interests. I’m hoping that I can someday use it as a portfolio website when I start my career in UX Design.

The image below comes from a portfolio website created for and by Kuon Yagi, a Japanese UX/Web Designer. I’m absolutely in love with how he designed his website and if you actually visit his domain, his backgrounds and menus actually move as you scroll down the page. All in all, very modern and exceptionally creative. I hope to one day have a website that looks as cool as this one.

The Internet’s Own Boy: I thought this would be a snooze fest as soon as I saw this assignment. I was so wrong I cried during this film. I want to thank you, professor Seslow. This movie inspired me to do what I think is my life’s work. Aaron is what I believe is a unitarian universalist. I think he developed this from his role models. Also, I think the inventor of the internet, Tim Berners Lee, hadn’t given the internet for free (THANK YOU TIM), we would still be in the dark ages. Aaron knew well before his time. He wanted to be apart of something big. Something worth dying for the ability to access information. He exposed corruption, and although there is a thin line between what is legal and illegal, hearing his story is not uncommon. The government has a problem with people who invoke change. COINTELPRO was the first organization I thought of when I watched this film. It was an agency used to discredit and derail political organization who wanted civil rights. Used to target and assassinate people like MLK  and many Black Panthers. Aaron knew that there was so much corruption. I hate JSTOR for being so careless to leave the doors open in the first place for Aaron to download the files, but we have all done this without the fear of being arrested.

My favorite quote, “Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius ” Aaron was an intellect who wanted to make a difference at a young age that caused his social skills to be premature because he was never close to children his age. He hated the teachers who taught him and education as an institution. His desire to learn and teach others is very inspirational to me. The social aspects of him seem not to match his capabilities. He got himself fired by not showing up to work, and he never likes the feeling of being restricted. The idea that his life would be over because he couldn’t use a computer and being a felon was a blow to him. The label of the criminal would be a restriction to Aaron to a particular lifestyle. Unable to vote, financial freedom, his trial left him in debt. Not because he did anything wrong but to become a deterrent.

Aaron is the foundation of the Internet rights movement. The right to access information, both public and private, for free.

 

It’s time for us to create a domain name and I couldn’t possibly be any more excited! I’ve looked forward to creating one ever since the beginning of the course.

I’ve came up with some ideas for possible domain names. My name is Jordan and one of nicknames I’m called by a lot is “Jay.” I like to talk a lot and I guess you can say I love being in the spotlight. Therefore some names I came up with so far are, JayWoodsTv.com, TalksWithJay.com, ChatWithJay.Com….

Hopefully I choose a domain name and register it successfully. I can’t wait!

Overall I’m really like this assignment there are a lot of creative uses in this but it going to take some time to get used to lol. I’m still kind of struggling with the design and everything  but overall I’m hoping my own website can inspire gamers such as myself for one

But as for right now let me start by saying this game right here is taking the news by storm GENSHIN IMPACT it came out Spet 28 not to long already more than 1mil upon 1mil are playing

And of course LoL but ill save the juicy stuff for later!

I always pictured having my own website but never really had an idea of what my domain name would be. I have had different domain names for previous classes but all had to follow a certain format. However, for this class, we can make our own unique domain name.

I firstly thought of the vibe I want for that website. I want people to be able to grab a hot or cold drink of their preference and sit and read a  short daily blog. Along with reading something hopefully relatable I also want to have some of the photos that I’ve taken around New York. Once having this I asked my family for their input and came up with a few possible domain name

I’m still not 100% sure on which domain name I’ll end up with but these are some I have in mind so far…

Creating my domain name which is janett4kids.com I really love this domain name, and enjoyed this assignment.  I have four children and I love children so everything kids I can add on my own site which is so cool.

The process was easy for me. I followed the steps and things worked out fine. I did have one hiccup I didn’t get the coupon code in my email, but I emailed Professor Seslow and within a few minutes he responded with the code. I verified my email and accepted the Terms of Service.  This is so cool.

I can provide advise, arts and crafts, recipes, books for kids so many ideas of things that I have worked for me. I am elated with my choice. Children are the best and if my site in some way can help a parent help their child well how priceless is that.
