What are you inspired to do? 

I am inspired to complete college and graduate with my Bachelor’s degree. I am inspired to live a good life with a house of my own, cars, lots of wealth and a great lifestyle. I am inspired to one day get married and have a beautiful and successful family. Lots of things inspire me. I push myself a lot to accomplish things because I know that I can do it. I work hard now because I know that one day all of my hard work will pay off and it will benefit me in the end.

What are you inspired to make or create?

I am inspired to create businesses that can one day benefit myself and others. I am inspired to create opportunities that can help people who need the help. I aspire to create happiness and a safe space for people who really need it. I create to show others that they can do exactly what I do if they work hard enough. You only conquer what it is you want to achieve in life through hard work. Anything you put your mind to you can do it and that is what inspires me to make and create. 

Digital Storytelling Project Flexibility

For this assignment, I had to do some research on the DS106 Assignment Repository, & choose 2 projects from the list that I have attached above.

Project- 1:

Since I am a senior, doing a major in Computer Science, I already have some skills to do the Code Assignment and I believe I can figure it out on my own quite easily compared to the other categories.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have many options to choose from compared to other categories in DS106 Assignment Repository.

There were only 2 code assignments and obviously, I choose the easiest one where I only asked for 10 -20 lines of code to solve a simple problem. Luckily, it didn’t ask for any specific programming languages which means I can use any of the programming languages. Therefore, I choose C++ which is a middle-level programming language to complete this assignment.

Again, I could use any online compiler to write and test my code, so I used my favorite one Repl.it.

Prompt: Here, I am planning to solve a simple mathematical program, where the user is asked to enter two integers (divisor and dividend) and the quotient, and the remainder of their division is computed.

Step -1: 

At first, I open my online compiler and select C++ as my preferred programming language. Then I wrote the code and save it. This is what I wrote:

After compiling the code, I run it to test if it is working perfectly. When I click on the Run button the code, the program asks the user to enter dividend and divisor. Here, users can enter literally any integers according to their choice. However, I have selected 10 as dividend and 5 as divisor.  Therefore, I got 2 as the quotient and 0 as the remainder, which means my code is working perfectly without any error.

Step -3:

Although the code worked absolutely perfectly in the first place, still I did another test to make sure everything is working fine. This time, I have selected 100 as dividend and 15 as divisor.  Therefore, I got 6 as the quotient and 10 as the remainder, which is absolutely correct!!

Since this project was very easy and I did it pretty quickly, I decided to do another project from DS106 Assignment Repository, and this time I choose my second project from visual assignments.

In this project, I was asked to search up on the internet the name of this flower from the picture and name it.

First of all, I open the Google Chrome browser and search for yellow marron flower, and thankfully within a second, I found the exact same flower.

Then, I clicked on the second image and it took me to a website named bobvila.com, where I found the name of the flower by scrolling down a little bit. The name of the flower is Coreopsis.  However, I also find out that this flower is also known as Golden Tickseed. You guys can buy the plant from Burpee.com for 13.99.

project- 3:

For this project, I choose from animated GIF assignment because I want to develop my skill in making GIFs as they are really important for this course.

In this assignment, I choose this GIF and I am looking forward to having something funny subtitle for it.

I found this video tutorial on YouTube, where I can learn easily how to add subtitles to GIFs.

 

How am I doing in CT101? 

I would hope I’m doing good but I’m not really too sure. I do think I am growing a bit but I think I am still a bit slow. Which is something I’ve always dealt with when it comes to learning something new.

How many points have I earned so far and what grade do I believe I am maintaining?

Maybe 82, my problem is that I take too long to come up with the right idea I want for class, so it pushes me back. Ive been trying to take notes whenever I come up with an idea because at times I can have so many ideas I do not know which one to pick. 

What have I learned and retained the most? 

I learned that I should be more comfortable with expressing myself and that will always stay with me. Before I felt like I had ideas, but I was scared to put them out there.  

What new skills have I developed , cultivated and displayed regularly in my weekly posts? 

I learned how to be creative in a simpler way and that’s by using gifs or memes.  I used memes and when I would send them I make sure it represents exactly what im feeling not just something random. Though whenever I would use them it would take sometime to find the right one. To me displaying the right meme for the right moment is what I would display in my weekly post.

How do I assess my performance through self-reflection in this class? 

I assessed by taking notes from the comments made by others and by reading others’ posts. Some people’s ideas maybe similar to mine or different, either way, I can learn from them  

What do I know now that I did not know before taking this class? 

I didn’t know that I would be able to be so expressive and free in this class. I had some idea of what the class may offer but I didn’t think I would also have this much fun.

Do I see my weekly blogging work expanding creatively? If so, please explain –  or am I stuck in a loop where my posts seem to look the same most of the time, how will I change that? 

Sometimes I do feel stuck but Im not sure if im stuck on a loop or not. It is hard to be your own critic at times.

I saw the comments that had been left-back, but I did not know I was to respond back on all, I didn’t see any reason to, but I did take note of what was said.

Assignment 5 is the only one that I haven’t done yet because it is a bit hard to start it, since I have to narrow down  things about myself.Even this assignment was hard since I had t0 focus on myself.I take notes from the professor and fix any error I madeI do plan on responding back to classmates it just slipped my mind. I do think I should participate more in class by talking. Im just not sure how, and I dont know what I should say. I do the work and I’m listening plus taking notes. 

Are you commenting regularly on your classmate’s posts? I do take notes and opinions but at times it slips my mind that I have to express them to others.Even when the professor comments I take in the new information and fix things for past and future post. 

The ability to develop fresh and unique ideas, connections, and solutions to problems is often referred to as creativity. Even if they aren’t aware of it, everyone possesses some level of creativity. Small events in life demand fresh thinking or unexpected answers. Transforming your ideas, thoughts, and ambitions into reality is what creativity entails. You can detect hidden patterns and draw connections between things that aren’t generally connected.

The capacity to gain knowledge without resorting to conscious thinking is known as intuition. It is a feeling in your gut that tells how to act and behave towards certain situations. Using your intuition helps you make faster, more accurate and more confident decisions.

And immediacy: a state of being. A state in which the mind is able to make decisions quickly and cognitively. Together these three things work together to reason, plan, solve problems, create, learn, and doing so quickly.

Being conscious of these abilities, I was able to create a page on mmm.page that represented two things I love most: travel and music.

While browsing through images on Pixabay and searching for inspiration, I came across this photo in Japan. I got reminded of my dream of visiting the country some day and experiencing the culture for myself. From there, I dedicated my page to a travel-to-Japan, dark, nightlife-like, scenery with music.

My page uses some Professor Garley’s gifs, along with others I found on Giphy to fit the vibe and aesthetic. It also includes more images from Pixabay, and I embedded a Spotify button that plays Love Tonight by Shouse, a song I thought further creates the experience for viewers. mmm.page was super easy and fun to use. The space allows for any creative options and gives you the freedom to choose whatever you want while also providing several templates that spark inspiration.

Using platforms like this allow for more creative space and being able to grasp a new skill set when it comes to designing. I hope to use it more in the future.

 

Creativity is the ability to develop or identify ideas, alternatives, or possibilities that may be beneficial in solving issues, interacting with others, or amusing ourselves and others is referred to as creativity.

Immediacy is a trait that draws one into direct and immediate contact with something, creating a sense of urgency or excitement.
Intuition is that feeling in your gut when you instinctively know that something you are doing is right or wrong.

In my opinion, creativity comes first, followed by intuition, and last, immediacy. Creativity, as the name implies, is the act of creating or inventing something that did not exist previously. It’s an excellent technique to prepare for intuition since it sets the environment for the flexibility of creative thought to arise. Creativity is a personal process that cannot be forced; it is, by definition, spontaneous.It’s immediate, as is all intuition, and there’s no conscious understanding of how the mind came up with the idea. A good creative balances strategy and intuition, trusting their instincts just as much as their skill.

It entails appreciating all aspects of life. To take pleasure in, live, and make the most of every opportunity. It’s possible to be kind without being foolish. To give thanks to God. Knowing that there is nothing to fear if you truly understand who you are. Continue to grow as a person through reading and being insatiably curious. Never letting the kid in you die, never losing sight of the fact that you are a star, even when other stars look down on you from the firmaments. To be conscientious, yet also to have fun. To dream, but also to follow them; else, you will remain a dreamer.

 

The core of being alive and what genuinely makes us “human” arises from a state of enormous spiritual strength. Both spiritual and physical natures exist in humans. We unleash spiritual strength from our souls when we concentrate on becoming spiritually alive. This is what distinguishes us from the rest of the evil kingdom! Being spiritually alive also entails using our free choice and abilities of comprehension to improve ourselves and our community on a continuous basis. Knowing God, being in His presence, and traveling a path of service to Him are all part of it. Learn to be somber while maintaining the ability to laugh at oneself. To love and to be adored. And to realize that, while you are immortal, the body you inhabit is mortal. So, when the time comes, naturally let go of it.

I use this amazing website called mmm.page. What inspired me to create this is that I’m Christian who is passionate about preaching the gospel, and I wanted others to know that Jesus died for our sins on the cross. Simply expressed, no one would have everlasting life without Jesus dying on the cross for our sins. “I am the way, the truth, and the life,” Jesus declared. “There is no other way to the Father but through me” (John 14:6). Jesus outlines the purpose of His birth, death, and resurrection in this statement: to offer a road to heaven for sinful humans, who could never get there on their own. I became a Christian for a year and a couple of month. I always wanted to join the church choir due to social anxiety and panic attacks. It was kinda discouraging but I’m about to start praying about this.

How am I doing in CT101?

I think that I am doing pretty well in CT 101. I think I grasped the concepts and understood most of what was taught in the class so far. 

How many points have I earned so far and what grade do I believe I am maintaining?

I’m not so sure how many points I have earned so far in this course. I believe that I am maintaining a B+ or a C+ grade in this class because I do all of the work and I try to do all that my professor requests of me.

What have I learned and retained the most?

I have learned a lot about gifs these past few weeks. I was able to create some gifs of my own and use them for my posts. I never paid much attention to gifs until recently now that I’ve been in this class but I do think they’re very cool. You can make any kind of gif, whatever your emotion is more than likely there’s a gif to match it and also they’re pretty simple to make. I also learned a lot about memes and how to create them as well.

What new skills have I developed, cultivated and displayed regularly in my weekly posts?

A new skill that I have developed, cultivated and displayed regularly in my weekly posts is incorporating images that relate to what my project is about. I also include gifs within my work as well. 

How do I assess my performance through self-reflection in this class?

I assess my performance through self reflection in this class by looking at how my work improves week by week with the different assignments. Each week is a different assignment which helps me learn and grow. Each week I know about something new and I just include it in my work.

What do I know now that I did not know before taking this class?

I know how to create images online, I know how to create gifs too. I know about multiple websites now where you can make gifs and create images. I know how to look for specific images I want now without having to use the most common ones like Google or Yahoo.

I do see my weekly blogging work expanding creatively because each week I learn something. That means that for the next week I will come back with some new information that I can include within my project for that week.

I am not responding during the class time because I try to listen more to soak in most of the information. To improve my grade I should participate more during class and speak up.

Project #1: The project named “Name This Flower” is about naming the flower by what kind of flower you think it is. Then afterwards you search up on the internet and find the actual name of the flower and then put its name. I chose this assignment because I love the look of flowers, and I think they are very eye-catching.

I need to learn to do these projects because they are techniques that I can take with me into my future courses. I can use these techniques in an art course or even another CT course. I should be doing a lot of these projects during this semester so that I can fully grasp and better  understand how to do it on my own. By learning how to do these projects I can develop new skills that will help me. These skills are important because I can use them outside of this course too. These skills are important because they can be used universally and not just within this course.

Assignment #7 – It’s Time to Pick a Domain Name

It’s time to begin thinking about choosing a domain name  that can represent your digital self! <– (we will watch this video in Zoom class together) Its time to start planning our website building aspect of this course! Exciting!

You can’t (and shouldn’t) pick just anything.. this part is important!

It has to be unique and also available! It should be relevant – it could be based on your real name, a nickname and or something meaningful to you.

You will need to search for its availability using a domain registrar and you can pick from a number of different ‘top level domains (TLD)’ – for example .com, .net, .us, and .org – then you can have an example like – “mypersonalsite.net”

As we go forward to select and register our domain names (**don’t do this on your own please, I will be walking you through the process in class next week!)

You’re also going to need web hosting, which will allow you to put files up online and will be discoverable through your new domain name! We are going to use a form of ‘shared hosting’ where you get a portion of a server – think of it as having an apartment in a building.

With this shared hosting you will be able to do a lot of things including installing your own instance of WordPress! (via WordPress.org and not wordpress.com – they are a lil’ different)  With wordpress installed you can then start building your website for your domain name. I will cover a series of demonstrations on how to do this and I will record all of the demonstrations and tutorials.

We use a company called Reclaim Hosting, with which we have a contract with so you can enter a coupon code and start your account for free.

How am I doing in CT101?

I feel that this class is very insightful and has a great real-world application as it pertains to my everyday life; however, I feel as though I am struggling to keep up with some of the work. Some of this is having to do with the fact that I have various physical impairments that affect my ability to perform at a high level constantly as a student– some of which have impacted me as of late. This unfortunately has hindered my ability to keep up with the work regularly. Aside from this concern, I appreciate the format of this class as it allows students in my position to still have an ability to catch up and attain a better grade. Even though I might not have started the best, I still have the ability to finish strong and I can appreciate having the opportunity to recover and constantly improve throughout the class.

How many points have I earned so far and what grade do I believe I am maintaining? 

So far during the course, I have earned approximately six points because I have completed two assignments and commented once. I believe that my grade up until this point is a failing grade in the course due to my lack of completion of assignments; however, I do plan to take action and do my best to complete the remaining assignments and the assignments that I have fallen behind on by executing better time management skills and being more focused on coursework in general.

What have I learned and retained the most

One of the skills that I have learned during the course CT 101 is how to embed a .gif into a post as I had previously not had knowledge of how to do so before. I find it ironic that we function and interact with .gifs daily and to be able to see on a functional side of how it works to create a post gave me some more in-depth exposure into something that I had not necessarily ventured into as deeply before. This allowed me to utilize different formats to express myself and my work in different ways beyond the spoken word. With an ever-changing society and the way communication is always evolving, I feel it is imperative that I at least learn the basics behind these foundational means of communication.

What new skills have I developed, cultivated, and displayed regularly in my weekly posts?

I feel as though from when I first entered the course to now that I have developed many more skills in terms of the online space and a better understanding of how to manage Public Image and keep track of work. Also, I have learned a great deal about applications that I could apply with not just in an academic setting, but also far and beyond into the job world and my career as a journalist, such as embedding memes, .gifs, and hyperlinks as those may seem like the basics, but I had never been exposed to such things previously. 

How do I assess my performance through self-reflection in this class? 

I assess my work in this class as that there is much to be improved upon in terms of just getting to work on time and submitting assignments in a timely manner and also just being more engaged. This takes a bit of getting used to for me because I’m not used to commenting on other people’s work and critiquing, which is just a habit that I have to break as establishing communication and rapport between classmates is very important to receive and give feedback in a constructive manner.

What do I know now that I did not know before taking this class?

Entering this class, I was pretty much a novice when it came to embedding .gifs and using hyperlinks and actually applying a lot of these concepts and understanding how they work in my everyday interaction with technology and the modern age of social media. Understanding typical applications that we use every day, helped open my eyes up to how important some of these things can be in the communication that we might take for granted on a day-to-day basis. As people, we might not be encouraged to spend extra time on what actually makes apps like Giphy and memes important and how simple yet impactful they can be

I feel like my posts are expanding creatively, although I haven’t done many of them. I also feel like I have a lot more to add and go back to since I’m always learning and adding to my repertoire when it comes to understanding the material from when I entered the course to now. I feel as though I’ve gained a lot and still have a tremendous amount to learn. I’m always expanding my horizons in terms of bettering myself as a student both inside and outside the classroom. Relative to what I know at the time, my post may seem bland but I also know that I know a lot more now and I can go back and always at it and change or add to the work.

I haven’t been keeping up with many of the assignments as I am missing blog posts 3, 4, and 5. I will admit I haven’t done the greatest job in managing my classwork and school work with my personal life as I’m just being reacquainted with school and college life. I had taken a hiatus for the previous two years after going through extensive medical rehabilitation. I also have not been responding to my classmates’ posts although I don’t have issues communicating in-person as I do online. I have formed somewhat of an introverted tendency to not answer or interact with people in the online space and I’m working diligently to break these habits and evolve as interacting with other people can only help to strengthen my skills in the communication field moving forward.

How am I doing in CT101?

so far I feel fine. I have been doing all my posts it doesn’t feel too overwhelming having to do different posts each week. It’s fun to learn how to become more in tune with the world of communications technology.

How many points have I earned so far and what grade do I believe I am maintaining? 

i believe I am at a solid B+ or above an 85 to be entirely honest with you guys. I have been up to date with all my posts. I am commenting on two of my classmates posts every week. I do not want to say an A because there is always room to improve your grade and work.

What have I learned and retained the most?

what has really stuck with me is the use of memes. I am now fully involved in the meme world. But other than that I would say I have become more experienced using giphy and have learned how to create gifs/ memes.

What new skills have I developed , cultivated and displayed regularly in my weekly posts?

the skills i have developed is creating my first web page on mmm.page which was really cool. I have never had any creative control in designing things on the web.  I was able to create my first page titled juancarlos which shows some stickers depicting things I like. Thanks to the help of creating memes I was able to create my first page.

How do I assess my performance through self-reflection in this class?

i assess my performance in terms of if I am doing what is asked and if I am also using enough gifs on my post. I need to have many gifs because they help to get my point across more than just using words.

What do I know now that I did not know before taking this class?

i now know how to create gifs. I am able to have more imagination in terms of expressing myself in these blog posts.

I do see my blog post expanding because I add new and cool memes to express my points. I also try not to stay stuck in old ways because I cannot improve living in the past. So far I am not missing assignments which is great because I do not want to be behind because it can be hard to catch up. I am responding to my classmates because it’s good to communicate and hear feedback on what I or them can do to improve. I don’t really participate during class time because I am more of an observer but I will try to communicate more to improve as as a student. So far everything in this class has been cool.

WELCOME TO MY MIND AND LEARN HOW I VIEW THE WORLD

CREATIVITY has many definitions because it can be different for each person. For me it’s about finding something inside of yourself. It’s about taking a chance and finding if your originality can work with the world.

Immediacy is a word I had never heard before or maybe I forgot about it. After reading the definition I see it as a state of mind of doing things at this moment and not waiting for the right moment but of taking charge at this exact instance.

Intuition is all about knowing. That’s it, at least for me. When you’re in an important situation you use your intuition to try and get the best outcome for yourself.

If I were to rank them I would say your intuition goes first because you need to trust yourself first to do something. After deciding what’s best for you, you use your creativity to come up with cool and original ideas to display your imagination. Then immediacy goes third because you need to have your work, ideas or etc. done and shown in the moment.

Being ALIVE is something amazing to me because everyday I can wake up and have a chance to do something new and am able to experience the motions of existing. Even if I had one bad day being alive allows for a fresh start every new day.

I have never been crazy creative because I was never given a chance to explore on my own I was always told to follow a set outline. But all these assignments allow me to use gifs and memes to communicate better and use them in a creative manner.

mmm.page is such a cool idea and allows all its user to have creative freedom in their design. I have never seen such a place where I have total control in the layout unless I’m paying. When I first started it looked like this…⬇️

I only am creating one page called juancarlos for now because I am running out of my creativity juice. I wanted to do mine about my interest about what I watch, listen or do on the daily. This way it will allow for my classmates and professor get to know me better even if we’re online. At first it was a little confusing but it’s all about practicing more and more on it. It might not be the best but I know with time I will improve.

Assignment #6 Mid-Semester Re-Cap Time!

The things that I’m doing in CT101 vary a lot, from making blog post, making websites with pictures to give them meaning to each of the pages, using gifts to our blog post, to commenting in other peoples blog post. The skills that I have developed are creating web pages and how to make them look great for those who visit my work, the use of gif in blog post and how I can use them to represent an idea or feeling. Each week I use those skills learned the week before so I do not loose or become rusty using those skills, I asses my performance by through acknowledging what I being ask and what do I need to do in order to my Blog post in the right way.

I think that I’m doing decent to great on CT101, since I been doing most of my work on time and commenting for a decent amount of time, I have 5 Blog post at the moment with  Things that I like to do in the internet(Assignment #1), How can we use gifs to communicate feelings or emotions?, Assignment #3 are memes art?, Assignment #4 digital story telling., ASSIGNMENT #5 and my current assignment that I’m not capable of Linking because it has not being publish(which is this one), what I have learned and restrain the most is the use of Gif as a story telling, since is one of the skills that I think I’m going to use the most in the future, the new skill that I have developed weekly is to use images and memes as a way of story telling device, something that I know that I didn’t knew before entering the class its to create web pages on the internet using images and words to describe the page and it’s own meaning.

When it comes to my weekly bloging I feel kind of stuck, since I have not made any change to them or to my writing style, the way that I think that I could change my blog post style is by adding gifts and images which is one the things that I use the least, since I barely use images to do essays paragraph in other classes, at the moment I’m not missing any other Assignment, and YES I’m commenting on peoples work but I do think that I could be commenting more often, when I’m in class and I have a question I always try ask to my Professor.

 

The first thing I chose from the ds106 assignment bank was the coding assignment to create an interactive program. I decided I would create a program to find all the factors of any chosen number (why? you might be asking. I truly have no idea). I was originally going to code in C++ but then I figured “why not utilize everything I know and have some fun as well as practice with it?”

I recently learned about creating websites and haven’t really had a chance to practice for myself or outside of what was required for the course so I saw this as the perfect opportunity. One of my favorite things about this class is that I get to do stuff I enjoy, but normally wouldn’t have time for.

I began working on the HTML code first to give myself some sort of vision for what the site would look like. I figured simple was the way to go for this assignment, so I included what I thought was necessary: some description, instruction and a place to enter input.

After figuring out the look of the website, I then had to get it to actually work. This part took a few lines of Javascript code defining what a factor was and then allowing it to be displayed on the screen. Honestly, this was the most difficult part because I’ve had less practice with Javascript compared to HTML and CSS. The W3schools tab on my computer was always open, searching for ways to get my code to work. I also found myself looking at old projects and tweaking its code to fit this website.

Finally, I reached the fun part, where creativity really comes in. Using CSS I experimented with different designs for the website; I enjoy discovering the different fonts and color combinations to use. Again, with the point of the site being simple I used a nude color for the entire page and different shades of brown for the text. I also added a gif to make it less monotonous, and animated some of the text.

The second assignment I chose was a mashup assignment to find two similar songs and edit them to show how they are identical. I imagine it would be fun to learn how to edit/mix music. 

Analyzing the different sounds to find minor similarities seems like it would be really exciting. A couple days after reading about this assignment I was listening to music and actually found two songs that are actually quite alike but I just never realized.
