Assignment #7- Doname!?

`BRANDONJAI                `WHATSTHEDILL              `NODNARB

`BJtheKid                          `BRANDNEW                         `JaiMusic

All these potential domain names are good examples of the website that I will build. I like these because each one features a part of my name and they are pretty fun to me.

Fun Spongebob GIF by MOODMAN

The thought of building your own website is frightening. When you look at other websites you see how detailed websites are and how much work goes into them. So you may think that it’s rocket science but I have seen it’s not as difficult as it seems. But What will my website be about? Hmm.

Will Smith Reaction GIF

One idea is that my website could be about music. I would write blog posts about new and old music that is out, giving my opinion on them. I also got to a lot of concerts so, I could post videos pictures of the concert and then write a review on how it was.  This is where the domain name `JaiMUSIC would come into play. Jai is my middle name if your wondering.

Another idea could be about basketball. I would write blog posts on the NBA and college basketball. I love talking about basketball, would my predictions on the season and about injuries, etc. I would use `WHATSTHEDILL for this website. Dill is my last name if your wondering.

One of my favorite websites as to be Soundcloud. My favorite feature is the comment section of a song. You are allowed to comment at a specific mark of a song. when that time passes through your comment will pop up to whoever is listening. I love this feature because sometimes you miss a detail of a song that someone else points out. It really enhances the listening experience for me. Hopefully, my website can be just as innovative as Soundcloud.

Another website I like is called LivePlan. It is a website for small business owners. I was introduced to this from the internship I did at York. I like this website because it makes it easy for business owners to plan their business now and for the future with the financials they have. All you have to do is enter your business information and they organize everything for you. Pretty cool.

Assignment #5 – Floating in Space

mmm.page is an amazing tool.

My experience using this website was great. It is simple and easy to express your ideas digitally.

I used my favorite tool, GIPHY for stickers and for gifs. I do wish that the website would allow gifs to move as it would bring another dimension to my page. Maybe there is a way to do so, I just couldn’t figure it out.

I was completed to create how I am currently feeling. Sometimes you can’t put into words how you are feeling and why you are feeling that way but you can express it. That’s what I was able to do with the mmm.page and I am happy with the results. I hope you enjoy it.

Assignment#11 by Sajani Sufian

Hello Class! I posted a NEW POST  on my purple website! Check it out & do not forget to leave your thoughts there!

All of you are doing amazing work on your websites! Let me share my thoughts on some of your works!

I loved the formatting and color of Nader’s website. The moment I reached his website, the color made me want to explore his site.

I like how he has posted his name in a logo centered on the top. Also, his photography content is amazing!

Then, I visited Victor’s website. I like the way he has set up his menu navigation centering on the home page. As of now, I do not see any content posted by him on his website. But I cannot wait to see what his site is about!

I shared a public post that I found on my Facebook news feed under my “Favorite Quotes” menu navigation. I embedded the particular post directly from Facebook using the code. I also hyperlinked the page on my website. I do not want to add my social media as a specific menu on my website. None of my social media accounts are public, all of them are private. So, even if I share the feeds on a category on my website, I am not sure if it’ll be posted on my website.

Assignment #8

Assignment #8

WELCOME TO saramilaninc.com/

CAUTION STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION!!!

I’m proud to announce that I am the founder +CEO of saramilaninc. The website creation processes like creating a domain name and installing wordpress was very easy because I just followed the zoom video that Professor Ryan uploaded on assignment #8. As he was doing it himself I opened up a new tab on my computer and just copied everything he did which made it very easy. I’m glad we had that video because there were a lot of steps I could have forgotten easily like making sure I copy and paste my password and username into a blank document.

So I chose the domain name saramilaninc as my domain name because it sounds like it could be the impetus for all the other ideas and content I want to display on my website. I mention in my domain name that I was passionate about cooking, fashion, journaling, and making reviews on products so I’m using this platform to umbrella all of these ideas.

Something really interesting Professor Ryan told us was that many well known websites use WordPress, for example Microsoft. So I decided to look at website to find inspiration on how I want my website too look and feel like a real website people enjoy looking at!!

Week #13 – Social Media N’ WordPress

Week #13 – Social Media N’ WordPress

Passcode: 7%cSatm$

This week in CT101 we will share and explore each others websites, learn about creating and adding social media content into our posts – (this might be your own social media work or work taken from your favorite feeds / brands / people) to expand your narratives. We will also chat about “custom links” and how to add them to your websites navigation menu structure. Of course I will record this process during Zoom and post the video here below afterwards.

Here we are 3+ weeks into being the proud owners and admins of a new Website! We are customizing our pages, building menu navigation, tweaking colors and blogging away into oblivion! It is exciting, and discovering new ways to create and share content are a big part of this process.

Important info – when we install WordPress onto our domain and hosting platform it comes with many default settings. Some of them are useful of course but ultimately we should be changing and altering those default settings to better match the concept behind “how” you are using our websites. Customizing your website to also meet basic accessibility standards is crucial. If your website is not easy to access read or follow along with due to conflicting design elements it will rank poorly in search engine results and likely be flagged as such.

Assignment #11  Details:

(3-parts – see below)

Part 1: Its time to share your new website’s URL, please add it to the comments section below in this blog post (My example is already there as an example, your URL should look similar but with your own domain name)

Simply leave a comment below sharing your website’s address and press the “Post Comment” button!

Be sure to include the –  http://  part

Here is an example–>  http://your-website’s-name .com

This is my example of my website URLhttps://ryanseslow.com

Part 2: As the URLS begin to appear in the comments section below, select and begin to explore some of the website’s of your fellow classmates! Leave them a comment or two about their progress directly on their website! Then, write a new blog post here on CT101 sharing your thoughts and feedback about discovering your classmate’s websites. Be sure to include screen shots -it may be of their homepage (or other pages) and you must include their URL in your post (and hyperlink to it!)

Questions to reflect on for this post: What do you like about the websites that you discovered? Did you find a favorite blog post, website formatting, or project? Share it! Give some feedback!

Part 3:  Publish a new blog post on your new website! The new post should be about something related to the websites focus. If your website is focusing on “Baking” then write a great new post about baking. If your website has a focus on “Movies & Entertainment” then write a post about that and what has your’e caught your interest. *Please keep in mind, your blogging practice should be expanding and getting more creative with every post that you make.

***Many people continue to forget to add images, videos, screenshots and other forms of visual media that we must always include in ever single post.

Our Class Lecture Topic this Week – Adding Social Feeds & Posts to WordPress

It’s time to talk about the impact of social media and the many roles it can play in our storytelling and blogging practice.

The recording this week will walk you through the process of embedding social media content and related media that you see taken from the class zoom sessions. Please consider adding some of these tips and tricks into YOUR websites posts, pages or sidebar widgets!

Have Fun!

Assignment#10 My beautiful Yemen

Hello Class, come and check out my first post about my lovely Yemen

Dear CT 101 classmates,

Do you Want to learn something fun and exciting from the other side of the world? Well, come and explore my new Website NaderPhotography

I’ve loved to share great things about my home country, Yemen. Yemen has been in a difficult situation since the civil war started in 2014. However, many people lack knowledge about Yemen’s remarkable history, civilization, culture, and tradition. Therefore, I would love to use my new Website to share some history about Yemen with the rest of the world.

In my first post, Shaharah Bridge. I decided to share some great information about the historical Shahara Bridge. If you want to learn more about this beautiful bridge, click here and check it out on my Website.

Also, do not forget to have a look at the collection of stunning photos from Socotra Island. A new post about Socotra will be posted on my Website in the upcoming week.

Assignment #5: Digital Art

I decided to name my work: “my_motivation”, which you can see –> here. I created this by using mmm.page. As you can see, in the picture above, I chose to use a flower as my background. It is actually the narcissus flower, which is very beautiful. The narcissus flower is December’s birth flower. My daughter was born on December, which takes us to my next gif that I added: the girl and the mom. My daughter, Brianna, is my biggest motivation. She is turning six this December and I only want to see her happy. I want to succeed for her. I had a good life but I want hers to be even better. It has been a bumpy road but we are managing because nothing is impossible.

My family is the reason we are managing. They have been my support and they have helped me out with my daughter, especially when I have class. I am in the nursing program and that is my goal. I want to be a registered nurse and help others. Hopefully, with a few years into my career, I would love to work as a labor and delivery nurse.

As I mentioned before, I want my daughter’s life to be great and I want to see her happy. I want to travel the world with her. My family did not do much traveling, but it is something I want to do. There is nothing better in this world than seeing your child smile, well at least for me. It’s been a little difficult, managing studying and being a mom at the same time. Especially last school year, when everyone went remote. As funny as it may sound, coffee got me going throughout the day. Even if it’s bad, I have at least 2 cups of coffee a day. It’s what keeps me up all day. I am manifesting that I WILL earn my degree and become an RN, I WILL give my daughter the life she deserves, I WILL be a good mom, I WILL make my family proud.

Assigment 9: Customize

I finally did it. I finally was able to complete my website. Oh my god. I’m just so happy that I was able to even finish with my website. But finally, I got it done. I got it working and even though I wasn’t able to customize it as much. The first thing that did was to choose a template that I liked and that will work well with my website, and I want that something really minimalistic because I don’t want something with a lot of information.

When I went to the cpanel to customize the website it was really straightforward, I installed WordPress and with that installed it was the same as commons. Also, I was a big familiar with this type of website that I use to do in the past. So I went straight up and change the logo and style and here is the result victorjpimente.com

Silgoweb website GIF

This is an addition to my previous post, I realize that maybe in the future students will see this, and maybe they can learn a little of what to expect. Making the website was a fun experience that I don’t regret putting dedication into it. Here is a video that helped me design my website. I think that the best part from it was choosing a template so take consideration to that.

Assignment #9 customizing my website

Assignment #9 customizing my website

The semester is coming to an end, and my college life is reaching its completion. Soon I will be graduating and moving on to start my career. But most importantly, I am happy I was able to take CT101 in my final semester and officially become a website owner.

It might not be easy, but it was fun building and customizing my new website. Following the professor zoom video, I was able to go back and forth to make sure I was doing it correctly. Still, I realized the professor wanted to see something unique that had the same idea but done differently, so I started customizing using my imagination of how I wanted my website to look.

I started working on deleting all defaults pages and website structure. I put most of my focus into testing rather than just posting or making a change. I wanted to learn more about WordPress, so I started testing all columns I could access.

Once I deleted all the website default pages, I used the customizing button to start my journey.

Starting with site identity, I searched and customized my logo, gave my site a title, and picked a unique site icon.

Looking for the correct background that allowed my website visitors to observe all content was not easy. It took me some time to set a background picture that I felt was calm and beautiful at the same time.

What I felt was most important was organizing my menu. I was undecided about what to blog about, and I kept adding and deleting pages on my primary menu.

Moving on to the dashboard was also fun there. I learned how to navigate through my website, how to post pages and new blogs. Also, there were so many helpful tools users able to use to enhance their website.

As we advance, I will brainstorm some useful blogs that will allow me to share my daily routines with the rest of my class. I am also planning to use this website to enable people to learn about my home country Yemen. On this website, people would see beautiful places from Yemen along with some history.

Since we are owners of the website, let’s keep in mind what George Washinton once said

Hey Class, Check Out My Introductory Post on My Purple Website! (Assignment#10) by Sajani Sufian

Dear CT 101 Community,

On my brand new Purple Website  I just published a NEW BLOG POST!

Please check it out & leave your thoughts on the comment section!

On this post here, let me give you some hints by attaching a picture which is related to my recent post.

I took this picture in a Rose Garden when I visited my country Bangladesh this year.

A Short Introductory Post from the Purple Site Owner

I am yet to select an icon for my website. Following Professor Ryan’s tutorial, I created a category named “Photography”. But later on I removed it because as of now I wanted to focus more on posting writings. Even if I want to add an image to my home page, as of now I am not sure which one I’d like there. I’ll add one if I think it’s appropriate for my website later on. Or maybe a GIF. I want to combine my about and contact menu together as “About/Contact”. I tried to edit one of these menu names on the primary menu customization, but it doesn’t allow me to do that. I think the primary menu bar looks too congested with all the menu/categories/sub-pages. Once I learn how to put these two menus together, I’ll edit that page with content and hyperlink my social media to that menu. That is why I did not put my social media icons to the footer page area.

I definitely created a sub-page for my “Blog” menu and named it “Creative Writing“. I activated the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin.

Assignment#9- Getting The Feels

I had a good experience while editing my website. I did come across minor obstacles that I was able to resolve myself. It just took some time to figure out as I was playing around with the different features.

Before playing around with the features, I thought:

So I Can’t Add GIF’s?

I mean I was really confused because I basically live off of GIF’s. But then I figured it out!

First:

I press on the “+” sign and populate the other options. Then I proceed to press “image.”

Second:

It gives me the option of inserting the image from my gallery or pasting a URL. Since I want to upload a GIF, I insert a URL.

Third:

Taaadaaa!

Assignment #4: DS106 Assignment Repository

As my first assignment I chose: “That’s not what I expected” which was from the visual assignment section. It seemed as something simple but meaningful to do. It was something I could quickly figure out on my own by simply looking at the assignment directions. This assignment,in my opinion, reminds us to always look at the bigger picture. Sometimes, by only looking at one part or a simple piece of the picture, you might get a misunderstanding. Like in any situation, even in the real life, problems can arise when you do not look at the whole picture because you get a whole different idea than when you actually see the entire picture/situation. In this case, by simply looking at a zoomed in picture, a million guesses can come to mind, but it might be tricky guessing correctly. I will now show my outcome for this assignment.

In my opinion, if I wasn’t the one that took this and I was seeing if for the first time, I wouldn’t know what it was. If anyone comes across this post and picture, leave a comment below with your guess. I was looking through the submitted works for this specific post and I found myself staring at a picture for an extended amount of time trying to figure out what it was a part of.

As my second assignment, I chose: “Create a house” from the 3D printed assignments. I chose this as the assignment that I do not know how to do yet but I would love to complete one day. From reading the first sentence of the assignment instructions, I knew I would not know how to complete it because I do not know what a CAD program is. P.S. I still do not know because I have not looked it up yet (LOL.) Anyways, I would love to complete this in the future. Everyone has in mind what kind of house they would love to own one day. Imagine putting all your ideas into a program and, hopefully, in the future being able to own your DREAM house. I find that fascinating but, since I know myself 100%, I know I will be making changes every week, or so.

I’ve stated, in the previos paragraph, what I would need to learn to complete the project. I do believe that I should be doing these kinds of projects at least twice a month. Therefore, at least 6-8 in this semester. Not only will this be a fun project, but it will also enhance my skills, more specifically, my storytelling skills. I think these skills are very important because anything that enhances your knowledge is very valuable to have. Learning new skills and learning how to use different tools is necessary to keep your mind and creativity working.

Assignment #10 – Chapter 1: Deciding to go Natural

Website progress – I love the visual design of my website, so I won’t continue to customize my website.  I added a new blog post to my website.  I will not re-publish posts from CT101, but I will use the technique shared in class. For my personal website, I will create new content on my website.
The process of getting a relaxer as a child.

Dear classmates

I just published a new blog post here on my website: http://kikisnaturalhairjourney.com/uncategorized/chapter-1-deciding-to-go-natural/ please come and check it out and feel free to engage in some fun dialog.

Chapter 1: Deciding to go Natural

“Just For Me” children relaxer

Growing up my mother always relaxed my hair so it can be more manageable, so I didn’t know how my natural hair texture would look. Although my hair was chemically altered it was still long and thick, but it had the potential to be healthier. Natural hair is so hard to manage, especially when it’s thick, long, and curly.

At the age of 12, my hair was no longer long and thick, it started to get short and thin due to overprocessing my hair and not properly taking care of my hair. I would constantly flat iron and relax my hair resulting in damaged unhealthy hair strands.  I realized that my hair wasn’t growing, so I stopped overprocessing my hair. I started to wear braids and protective styles. My hair still didn’t grow as much because of the years of damage.

The big chop, the removal of relaxed ends.
I was desperate for my hair to grow, so I started to educate myself about natural hair care. I realized that I needed a fresh start in order for my hair to grow. There were two routes I could take, which were transitioning or the big chop. The transitioning process is when you’re not ready to cut all your relaxed ends. So, you let your hair grow out and then you cut the damaged ends on a scheduled basis. The big chop is cutting off all your hair. I started transitioning at first because I didn’t want to be bald. My hair became so unmanageable and tangled so I to did the big chop. July 2016 is the day I decided to go completely natural, there was no turning back when I cut off my hair, I was left with a tiny little afro.
Website progress – I love the visual design of my website, so I won’t continue to customize my website.  I added a new blog post to my website.  I will not re-publish posts from CT101, but I will use the technique shared in class. For my personal website, I will create new content on my website.

Welcome Back!

***This post and assignment will cover weeks 11 & 12 (11/17 & 11/23)***

Getting specific with WordPress and context?

Last week we started setting up our new websites by simply discussing the potentials of the creation process. We talked about how to set up a new page, working with the navigation menus, working with widgets in the sidebar or footer areas, installing plug-ins (especially the Classic Editor for blogging) and the differences between posts, pages & categories. We will review this again this week too.

The process takes practice, trial and error and a bit of curious experimentation. How did you do last week? WordPress is a very intuitive piece of software, and it wants your creativity! Lets continue forward. I will be sharing a new series of demonstrations (and as always I will add the recorded videos from our zoom classes here below.)

Lets begin (or continue) populating our new websites by publishing both a new blog post there this week and also “cross posting” that information here on CT101 as well. There is an efficient way to easily cross post content across wordpress websites. This means we can publish and re-publish that same content in two places for more visibility.

Here is a hypothetical example -> Lets say you just published a great new blog post on your personal website (the one with your new domain name) but you also want to share it with your classmates here on the CT101 website. Lets go ahead and try that.

Here is an example of that – you can prepare something in a new post that reads:

————

Add your Blog Post Title (all blog posts need a great title!)

(insert an image – GIF – Meme – Quote – or some kind of related media)

Dear Readers / Friends / Colleagues  –

I just published a new blog post here on my website: http://yourwebsitename.com, (make sure to hyperlink the post url) please come and check it out and feel free to engage in some fun dialog.

(add context)

————

This is a very minimal example above but perhaps just a title and a link is not that interesting? We need a bit of compelling energy to draw the reader from CT101 over to your site. So make this interesting and creative!

Assignment #10 (2- parts)

  1. Website progress – Continue to customize and work on the visual design of your website. Will you add a new page, a category, a plug-in? Will you re-publish posts from CT101 on your personal website or use the technique shared in class? Feel free to publish your progress as a part of the blogging assignment below.

2. Blogging Assignment Prompt – Publish a NEW blog Post on YOUR new website, the post can be about anything that you wish that has direct context to your new website’s stated intentions (what you site is being used to promote and share.) After publishing the post create a new blog post here on CT101 that shares a synopsis of your new post from your website that will entice and grab our attention, be sure to include the direct URL to the new blog post.

Assignment #9 – WordPress Customizing Fun

This week, I worked on developing a logo, background, and the about section. The background was simple and enjoyable. The logo was difficult to troubleshoot because most websites demanded a fee and choosing a logo was challenging. The first step was to log into WordPress. The second step was to update my post. Step 3: Locate an image for my background. The fourth step is to design a logo. In the future, I plan to use my website to archive my natural hair experience and give suggestions on how to achieve long beautiful natural hair. My website will have a series of posts on my natural hair journey, from the beginning to the end.   Check out http://kikisnaturalhairjourney.com/  and tell me what you think. I’m super excited to share my hair journey with you guys.
