We did it guys! We’re proud owners of a domain. I’m assuming most of us are first time owners. How exciting! My registered domain is erickughh.com Don’t peak yet, it’s still under construction! I really liked all five of the domains I had came up with. I was going to pick one based on process of elimination and seeing which one was available. Of course to my luck, all of them were available. I am a very indecisive person, especially knowing something like this is permanent. In the end, I chose erickughh because I wanted it to be easy to follow me throughout all platforms and have consistency with my handle.
At first, I was extremely nervous. All of this was new to me and I felt intimated by the process. I’ve never used any of these websites before or anything like it. I thought for sure I would have a difficult time.
The actual procedure of registering and installing WordPress was simple and straightforward. I did not run into any hiccups along the way. I was relieved at how easy it was. I also find it comforting that it had the same dashboard that I’m used to using for CT101 the only difference was I’m an admin now! Now I’m ready to go. Super excited about developing my website and what the future brings!
Now when I have invited you to my new purply website, may I please let you know how excited I am about this?
It is very exciting customizing my website. This week, following Professor Ryan’s tutorials I customized some basic things on my website. I picked a color for the background. Purple is my favorite color! I checked how the other available colors looked as a background as well, but I decided to pick purple. Also, the content I am thinking about will match with a purple background on my website.
Then I wrote my site title. “Hello, This is Sajani!” sounded good to me. Because I wanted the visitors of my website notice the first thing about this site is me. If anyone randomly visits my website without acknowledging that they are visiting Sajani’s website, this site title will catch their eyes. I removed the tagline.
I added a new category to my primary section menu named “Favorite Quotes”. I am thinking about posting the quotes I like to my website. It can be a quote I saw in any social media platforms from a famous/popular person and liked it (of course I will mention their names). So, I decided to make it a category. For my homepage settings, I left it as a static page. Then I edited my first page. I put a quote that I wrote in the center of my homepage. I removed the default images. I want my about and contact menu to be together, as Professor Ryan has for his website! Once we learn how to do that, I am planning on posting a persona of myself to the about/contact menu. This persona will include an image of myself, and basic things about me (where I am from, where and what do I study, what do I like to do, etc). And, I will also hyperlink my social media to the about/contact menu.
I decided to remove the “search” and “recent comments” widgets from my homepage as a footer. And only left the “recent posts” category there. And, I do not really want to keep any secondary menus.
As I go forward with my website, I am planning on using it for sharing my creative writings, movie/book reviews, my random mobile photography, and of course my favorite quotes! So, I think the background color synchronizes well with my future content. As I was following Professor Ryan’s video tutorial and customizing my website, I did not face any difficulties. It was fun, exciting. I hope it will not get so stressful moving further!
Me and my bestfriend, after telling him I created a domain for his clothing line http://a-townclothing.com/
I had an easy experience creating a domain thanks to Professor Seslow’s recorded video on zoom. The video was self explanatory, all you had to do is watch the recording and follow along.
Me Following Professor Seslow’s zoom video
So far everything is good. I’m looking forward to what next !
Finally, I can proudly say that I can create my website using a few easy steps shown by professor Rayn.
I couldn’t hide my scary feeling when I heard Prof. Rayn mention something about working on the website and registering our domine at the beginning of the semester. I was somewhat scared, and I asked myself if I had made the right choice to enroll in CT101. I was expecting something complex that would take a lot of studies and time to get done, but likely it was an easy, fun process.
First off, we must have done our research to ensure that the domains are available, and of course, that was done in assignment#7. Once that was done we gained access to the free coupon provided by prof. Rayn.
Once my website was set up and officially had my domine, I became the owner of the Naderphotography.net website. I installed the WordPress application. It was super easy to do, It was fun, and I had some excellent set up. I expected it to be difficult, but it turned out to be easy and quick to complete, and I can’t wait to get the prof. Rayn instruction on setting up the website and making it looks official, looking forward to learning a lot.
I was nervous. Although Prof.Seslow showed the class a demo of what how to register our domain name, I thought I’d still screw it up because I screw up everything else I try to do .
Thoughts While Watching The Demo: OH, it’s pretty standard. I was super excited when I saw that my domain was available. I was also proud of myself for getting it done and NOT messing up.
Thoughts While Watching The Customizing Part of Demo:
Okay so this is the hard part. Although I already know the theme, it’s just a matter of how to make everything look appealing while intreating with the user, but that’s part of the process.
I don’t know whether to be excited or nervous about making my own website. My best friend has a clothing line named A – TOWN and he is currently looking for a website designer. This the perfect opportunity for me to learn how to make a website. So I can save my best friend some money and help his clothing line expand.
For the two projects from the DS106, I choice concert “Concert You Want To Be At” assignment as the project I would complete and “Storytelling Through Pictures” assignment as my future project.
As you may know from previous post I have bought a domain name. (I did not have to). I found out late and all of this happened because I rushed. I’m not mad since I had a card under my sleeves.
I have the same name as my brother (Victor Pimentel). Is like god gave me a second chances. My brother also wanted a domain name so when I showed him the domain I bough he told me to create him one as well. So I was thinking of giving him the domain name I bough and staying with the one from this class. Rushing did not end so bad.
Or that’s what I thought… I find a little time to finally create the website with reclaim hosting So When I make the account and finished up registering the domain I was welcomed with an error message. I then check again to see if I skip a step (I did not want to make a mistake for rushing again). But I did every stop the correct way so I don’t know what went wrong. At least I have a back up domain if this one goes wrong. I already contacted the professor and hope to resolve this situation soon!
-Me after successfully setting up my domain and hosting wordpress.
This was such an easy experience, in my opinion. Following Professor Seslow’s recorded video on zoom and description on commons, it was such an easy and fast process. Hosting wordpress wasn’t anything out of this world either. Following professor’s steps on zoom allowed me to set it up very quickly. Since I was already at the page, I decided to change the website’s icon to a picture of my daughter and I. I went ahead and changed the background to a light-blue color. I also added two or three sentences about myself in the about section of my website.
I was very indecisive when it came to choosing my domain name. I ended up going with —> http://julissa1122penaloza.com/ I did not, and still do not, know what kind of ideas I wanted to incorporate in my website; therefore, I just added my full name and my two favorite numbers: 11 and 22. Overall, the process was fun and it was not difficult at all. I was expecting it to be more complex and difficult to create since it does sound like an important and complex topic: CREATING A DOMAIN. As I mentioned before, it was easy by following the steps provided to us by Professor Seslow. I think the difficult part will come when deciding what type of content to include in my website. I am, however, excited!
This week in CT101 we will be focusing on getting everyone customizing their new websites! The coupon code that you need to get started was sent last week to your York e-mail address. By now, many of you have gotten started, you have a new registered domain name, a web hosting account, and a website framework (wordpress) ready to be built and customized! Ill be helping here with the customizing process of WordPress. This part will have multiple aspects to it. There is a lot to share, create and test. The process is experimental, fun and will take a few weeks as you make several visual and functionality decisions about how you would like your website to look and flow. Keep in mind, we are designing our site so that others can navigate to it and through it easily, so good design plays a big role here.
The customizing of your website will play out in context to “how” you also plan to use your new website.
**Assignment #9 – Assignment Details:
Lets publish a NEW blog post this week that shares your 1st series of website building / customizing progress. What did you work on this week? What changes did you make? What aspects were fun or easy, and what aspects were difficult or hard to troubleshoot through? Think of this post as a “tutorial” for yourself and by writing out your steps, the ambition is to retain them and also review them. Make a statement (or a series of statements) about HOW you will be using your new website as we go forward. Will your website be a specific project or a series of many things all brought together into one space? You can brainstorm in this post too just by free writing how you feel about that. You can publish that post here on the CT101 class site and add a “Link” to your new site, and also publish the post on your new site too.
My ambition (prof) is to make a new series of “how-to” class videos on the wordpress customizing process and also share some helpful curated content from the Internet as we go. We will be discussing HOW we will all be using our websites individually, just to mention again 🙂
Im going to focus on using a popular new WordPress theme called “Twenty-Twenty-One” – this theme is extremely versatile and is great for wordpress newbies and beginners. I highly suggest that you consider using this theme (it comes with wordpress when you install it upon setting up the hosting account). All themes are different, and many of them out there promoted on the Internet are not free (plus, its always helpful to start with a theme that has a good amount of video documentation that already exists.)
My experience of registering my own domain was actually great because the recording the professor uploaded and showed during class explained how to register step-by-step making it easy to follow. I was a bit scared about choosing a domain name because I wanted it to make sense with what I was going to add to my page and I did not want to make it too long. I picked the domain name http://alejandracreativity.com/ because I did not want to be sort of tied-down to one topic, especially since I did not have a “crystal-clear” idea of what I wanted to do.
I’m sort of scared to not be as creative as my fellow classmates, my page might seem similar to the mmm.page we had to create but I hope to add more things and make it different. The website wordpress.org is very similar to our class website and it is easy to maneuver around. I can’t wait for my classmates to see my page and for me to read/look at theirs.
I’ve always dreamed about having my website, but I never have the tools and knowledge to make one. I always wanted to promote my family-owned business through social media and have its online website to attract more customers. The lack of knowledge about the website and IT, in general, made it seem like creating a website was impossible, or at least I was not trying enough. However, I am super happy I enrolled in this class which would provide me with the knowledge of creating and setting up a professional website that will belong to me.
Naderphotograph.com
I choose this domain name because I love to take photos of everything I see around me, especially pictures and videos of nature. I recently had a trip to Yemen, and I was able to take some photos and videos of some of the most beautiful locations in Yemen. And I would like to use this website to share my experiences with others and keep my photos and videos safe.
this is a screenshot from one of my TikTok videos which shows the beauty of Yemen.
N&Naccountingfirm,LLC.org
My future jobs will specialize in accounting that includes various services such as taxation, advisory, consulting, and assurance services. I want to create N&N accounting firm LLC to represent my field of expertise and be the CEO and founder of N&N accounting firm. The name of this website represents the first initials of my first and last name, and accounting means everything we do at the firm and is not limited to just the accounting work. Still, it would also include translations, business licenses preparation, as well as immigration services.
N&Nsmokeshopgroup.com
I want to use this website to promote my smoke shop product that I plan to open soon. Since high school, I have worked in a deli and have the knowledge and expertise to run my own business. My website would help me list all my products online to inform my clients of all products and services we provide.
Nader’sarabwesterncothing.com
Everyone loves fashion and likes to dress clothes that will attract everyone’s attention, and this is why I’m coming up with Nader’sarabwesterncothing.com. This website will list all types of clothing including big names such as Louis Vuitton, Cucci, supreme, Nike, etc. However, what would make this website so unique is the is mixer of middles eastern and western perspectives. I am originally a middle eastern man, and we have a dress code that might be unusual to western fashion. Using my new website and fashion industry, I would make clothing design that mixes an Arab with a western style. This website will promote the latest product and enhance the point of view toward the Arab world by showing the amazing clothe and dress type we have.
some of the Arab dress styles I will have on my website, which I will also put some western touch to it.
NadersYemenMochacoffee.com
Not many know, but Yemen used to export the best coffee in the world. In fact. Mocha coffee, people’s most favored coffee, was first exported from Yemen. The early treader gave the name Mocha referring to the Al Moka port city. A port in Yemen that was considered the top center for coffee trading in the 17th century. On this website, I would provide the customer with all kinds of Yemen coffee. This website would bring awareness to people about the best coffee and bring back all the coffee lovers to the best coffee of Yemen.
One of my favorite websites is Amazon. I like Amazon because it provides everyone with their necessary needs. It is easy to memorize and popular with everyone. It allows anyone to shop while lying on their beds.
Like stated on assignment #8 about thinking of domain names, I am excited to create a website. However, this process of setting up a Domain and the path to creating a website was challenging.
“My reaction to the steps”
First of all, having to think creatively and choosing a domain name was very difficult. Especially when your creative ideas were taken, which I did not expect them to be. Even the name I eventually chose proved to be a difficult task, but just adding in two letters allowed me safe passage across this obstacle.
Second of all, the screen showing the money being spent was dealt with caution by me because I did not want to make a fatal mistake that could easily have been avoided. Thankfully, nothing went wrong here and it was a page just meant to scare people even though Halloween had passed us already.
Thirdly, I would have had no idea about the client area page. Seems easily unnoticeable as well as the cPanel section which is what helps you find your WordPress website information.
Lastly, If it wasn’t for the video recordings of classes, I think I would have had a hard time with this process and would have had many questions emailed to the professor. This task was not easy whatsoever and I am glad that we had this video recordings to look back to for future references such as this scenario. It helped me finally create a website and I am looking forward to what’s next.
How am I doing in CT101 you ask? Well if you must know, I’m doing just okay in the class I would say.
I would say I am maintaining a grade of a B- at this point of the semester. The evidence is shown by doing all the assignments but only missing assignment #5 at this point. I plan on completing the assignment this week. I went back and revised assignments #2 and #3 to make them better. I respond and engage with my fellow classmates in their posts. I try to respond to one classmate for each assignment we do. I participated in a class hand full of times and showed my camera once. I believe I can improve in this aspect. Here is a list of my completed blog posts.
What I have learned the most from CT101. The greatest learned assets in this class so far is learning how to express myself more through written word. I would say that I am not the best when it comes to writing and expressing myself however, this class has forced me to think about how I feel, what I am thinking, and how I go about in what I do. Some new skills I have learned and have displayed in my posts are using hyperlinks, using gifs, and using those aspects to create a story through my posts.
One thing I know now that I did not know before this taking this class is how the art of blog posting. I have never written blog posts before so this is all new to me and I am really enjoying it. I would say my blogging work has been expanding creatively slightly by the use of more gifs and the content of the blog post being more extensive. I will work toward a better second half of the semester.
Registering from my domain and hosting setup started quite simple because I followed the instructions provided by the instructor. I hate paying for anything, so I love the fact that a coupon code was involved. The domain name I created is Kikisnaturalhairjourney.com. This website will reveal how I grew my natural hair to waist length in four years. I’ll share why I began my natural hair adventure and why I took off all of my relaxed hair. I will also provide advice on how to grow long, thick, and healthy natural hair. But, the process was becoming very stressful. After signing up for WordPress my domain wouldn’t register because of an error on the invoice. I emailed reclaiming hosting and they fixed the error now my domain has been registering. I feel relieved that a can now access my domain and start publishing my journey. I expect the process to set up the domain, hosting, and WordPress to be easy with no disadvantages.
