I don’t know where to start. There is a lot to unpack. First of all, can we talk about how fast this semester went by? I swear I was just learning how to make my own GIFs yesterday. Every other class, you take an exam regurgitate information and you’re done. That’s the last you see of your professor and classmates. You leave feeling empty and cold, you whole existence came down to that one piece of paper and that 1-2 hours you had with it. This reflection makes it so much more intimate and even harder to say goodbye.

Although I never talked to anyone outside of class this was the most connected I felt to any of my classmates even if it was behind a screen. In other classes you don’t get to see the work others put forward. There is something really special about watching everyone grow and build their skills. Watching people’s personalities and interest shine through. I enjoyed interacting with people by reading their posts, commenting on their work, and reading comments left for me. It was a fun and overall new experience. I know I’ll never have another class like this so I want to say thank you to anyone who read my posts or commented on them.

 

I think I started off really well this semester, I was growing and thriving. I don’t think I finished off as strongly as I could have. It went downhill after I started not keeping up with the blog posts on a weekly bases. I put in all the effort I could with the time frame I had left. I must say I am a little disappointed in myself for falling behind at the end. Which is why I plan on keeping up with my website. I know I could do better and I want to prove that to myself.

Even though there was some set back I still learned a lot from this course. I sharpened my skills as an author and editor. I learned how to create and manage my own website. I mean, how awesome is that?! I learned how use and navigate WordPress while also learning to express myself through my own blogposts and images. I’m happy that I went the extra mile be designing my own icon and logo.  I even commissioned two artist to draw a portrait of me and one of my dog Onyx. It made my website that much more personal. All and all I feel like I deserve an A-.

As stated before, I will keep up with my website. I’ll have the domain for a year so might as well take advantage and have some fun! I want to reinvent myself. Am I crazy for wanting to delete everything and starting off fresh? I have new concepts and new ideas, after seeing everyone else’s website I am reinspired. I like the lifestyle vlog I currently have but I want to home in specific content. I feel like the blog will look more put together that way.

My Website So Far:

My website name  is erickughh.com. The purpose of my website was to create lifestyle content. It ranged from everything including my dogs and my plants. My plant hobby is my favorite thing ever, and it brings so much happiness and joy. I wanted to share that with everyone else. I also love watching TikToks and wanted to post content I thought other students related to. Click here to watch a couple of TikToks I thought were funny and relatable. Over all, It was a fun experience creating my website. Using WordPress “Twenty-Twenty-One” was relatively easy and beginner friendly. The only frustrating thing was thinking about what to post! I overthink a lot. I thought a lot of content wasn’t good enough. I need to keep in mind that this website is for fun and just to share my joy with the world.

After the first week I was starting to understand what I had to do and made the assumption that this course was going to be easy. Up until we were given our first assignment which instructed us to create our very first blog post and it’s also where the journey begins. The post asked what makes you happy on the internet and since I use Youtube on a daily basis I decided to include it. Youtube is a social media platform on the internet that I use every day, where content creators would upload their work and entertain their users. Assignment #2 instructed the class to express their thoughts on how they feel about the course so far in which I went into thought it was generally a really interesting class. This assignment mainly was for testing our abilities to use Gifs and Memes to which goes into the next assignment asking whether Memes are Art or not. I answered this question in my blog post stating that Memes are Art. 

In this class, my favorite blog posts were Weeks 1,2,3. These were my favorites because I felt like this is where I was most creative and I was really proud of the results. Each week challenged my storytelling, creativity, and writing skills. We are always telling stories whether writing them online or in person. These skills I have learned in this class will be put to good use.

My fellow classmate Elijah Adkins has created a website called People’s Voices. I think he did a great job with the overall design and how he made it very digestible. I learned that he was a journalism major, and I think that the website fit well with what he was going for.

My second blog post is about a day I spent in Manhattan. I recently spent some needed time with my girlfriend. I really needed to clear my mind and to have a day where I could reset. We went around to get food and just have fun. We honestly didn’t shop a lot, we mostly walked around talking about our future. I really enjoyed it as it helped me clear my mind.

The stress during December is always something I hated about college. After this semester I only have one class left so I am not too sad about this semester being my hardest so far. While the start of December is always my most hated time of the year because of all the tests and deadlines the later half is something I look forward to a lot since my birthday is right after finals week followed by Christmas and then we have New Years partying!! This will be me after finals week!

CT101 was a really nice experience, and it was something different from what I have been doing so far for the last 4 years, which was just A LOT of math and coding. I have my hardest final coming up after I am done with this post and a part of me just wants to go lock myself in my room and just stay in bed but I have to take it. At the start of CT101, I knew I was getting myself into making a lot of gifs and using them to describe things in my post and looking back to it now, it definitely felt like that through this semester. I used GIPHY a lot since the start of this semester and even found some really nice memes which I wouldn’t have seen if it wasn’t for this class. CT101 will definitely go down as one of my favorite classes during my undergraduate at York College. The website we made was also something I really enjoyed as it gave way to expressing myself even if it was a little bit to my fellow classmates. I will try to update and make some more changes to my website as I go along with my life.

This class allowed me and others to show what they are passionate about and use their creativity into their posts using images, gifs, videos, and many more creative and fun ways. This class holds up as one of the best so far for me and Professor Ryan made the class even better. It sucks that we couldn’t be in person I think that would have made the class even better than it was already.

All the assignments we have done so far have been really great into me finding something new on the internet and also looking at other posts which showed me something new. Assignment# 7:                                                                                                              Picking a domain and the different choices we had was something really enjoyable experience. Also had some trouble deciding what I show be putting as far as the content of the domain go.

Assignment# 9:                                                                                                                      Did not have too much at the start but customizing the website as we went on felt really good. Customizing the website can be a little tough at times though.

We are now finished off with my website. I tried my best to put in the clips which are really special to me as well as trying to put some in there which others will also like. I would still like to add more things to my website even after the semester is over as I feel like it’s still missing a ton of things. Using the tools to make the website was fairly easy as Professor Ryan did a great job at explaining everything that we needed to do to set it up. I do plan on messing with CSS a lot during the off time we have and learning some new techniques to build better websites and, in the process, use what I learn to hopefully keep this website up to date.

That’s all for my website and for all of the assignments we did together. As for my grade I did slack off during the semester and while I was able to complete all the assignments, they were still, late. The grade that I think I deserve in the class is probably B, or B+. While I want an A of course who wouldn’t I still want to be honest with myself and with the Professor. This class has been a blast and I will definitely miss it next semester when I take, yet again, another computer science course.

In the assignments, I wrote about various topics; from what makes me happy to creating memes to creating a website. I used the website: https://giphy.com/ to make gifs. I used the mmm page and I used wordpress. <— On these names, I hyperlinked my own page to these websites.

This is my mmm page. I included things that motivated me and what kept me going. My family, my daughter and coffee help me keep myself motivated to continue my career in Nursing.

I enjoyed learning new things. Before CT101, I would have been so lost if someone told me to create a website of my own. I would have not known where to even start. You,Professor Seslow, are part of why I was able to complete all the assignments. The recorded videos were a great help, and so were the actual assignment posts. They were all detailed and easy to follow. I did have trouble completing the assignments on a weekly basis because my other classes were a bit stressful but I am proud of myself because at the end of the day I knew what I was missing and I make sure to complete them all.

Something I enjoyed about this class was using Gifs. It was a new way to express my feelings without actually having to use words. You know the saying, a picture is worth a thousand words. Im guessing a video/GIF is worth even more! 😆 I think I will continue to apply all my skills in the world. Not only did it allow me to use my computer for things other than writing essays and doing homework, but it also made a little computer savvy. Nowadays, it’s important to know how to use a computer and do different things.

I think I will continue to update my website. I think it’s nice having a website to upload pictures of all the coffees I try. However, I know I won’t be uploading daily or even weekly. I won’t make that promise, lol.

For my website, I decided to post updates and reviews on different coffee drinks. At first, I did not know where to start but with tutorials provided, I got the hang of it and started to personalize it. I did not experience any frustrations other than today. I was updating the main page and it kept on freezing. After many tries, my pictures were able to upload.

This is the first thing you will see when you decide to visit my website. I included a recent picture of my daughter and I. That day, we went to see holiday lights at the zoo and it was beautiful to see how creative they were. I also added a picture of Luna, our family dog. Last but not least, I added a picture of coffee. My mom likes to say that I am addicted to coffee, I think I am. Haha.

This is my “About” page. I included a few things about myself. In fact, I edited this page today and I included an update.

This was the first blog I included on my website. It was just an update of my latest work on the commons page for CT101. This assignment was actually connected to the website so why not include it? It was an update of all the changes I did to personalize my website.

In this post, I compared to types of coffee’s that I ordered at Starbucks. Let me tell you, they were both good!

This was my most recent post where I explained that I decided to try out a new drink. It was good and I am glad I decided to try out more. As I stated before, I will continue to update my website and upload blogs on my website.

As my final grade, I believe that I should get an A- or B+. Not an A+ because I did not exceed the expectations for any assignments. I only met the requirements for each assignment; therefore, I think my work combined is a grade of either an A- or B+. I honestly put in the effort to each assignment and made sure it looked nice and presentable. I used to my advantage the fact that there were no deadlines for the assignments, for which I am extremely grateful. I was not completing the assignment on a weekly basis, as I explained above, but I did complete all of them. I even went back and updated some.

(Hopefully Professor is in a good mood and grants me the grade of an A)

To be perfectly honest, creating this website and taking my time to plan things, I found it very fun. My website ChillLiang is where I will be able to express myself and be able to communicate with my readers.

I want a website where I can post travel, food, and random pictures of my life, and hopefully, entertain someone in the meantime. A day in the life of me 

I decided to visit Ericka Herrera’s website. The link for her website is right here. From reading her websites’ name, I found it funny and creative how she incorporate “ugh” into it, while still making it sound like her first name. Upon entering her website, I already liked what she posted, which I included a screenshot of right above this paragraph. By far, it was my favorite post. I enjoyed seeing pictures of her pets, finding out their names and learning a little bit about each. Pets are literally like humans, they have different personalities and express their emotions very well. I also have 3 pets: 2 cats and 1 dog.

I also like reading her plant post. Quarantine hit hard for almost everyone. Not being able to go out without having the fear of getting sick, having family and friends getting sick was very hard [it still is]. I liked reading how she made use of her time and decided to grow plants. Her plants look very healthy and I hope she keeps us the good work!

Time moves fast, doesn’t it? I feel like I was just writing my first blog post on what makes me happy on the internet. Now we are all writing our final blog post after three months of digital storytelling. Looking back we did a lot of great work in our blog posts and the things we created.

In this class, I enjoyed writing blog posts each week about myself and other classmates. My favorite blog posts were Week 1, Week 4, and Week 5. These were my favorites because I felt like this is where I was most creative and I was really proud of the results. Each week challenged my storytelling, creativity, and writing skills. In the “real world” I plan on taking these skills I enhanced in this class and using them just in day-to-day life.  Every day in life you have to think creatively to solve problems. We are always telling stories whether writing them online or in person. These skills I have learned in this class will be used in good use. I definitely plan on using more gifs in texting, everybody is going to be tired of my gifs.

I honestly think I deserve an A- in the class. 

Why? 

I did every blog post assigned with 100% effort. I took a lot of time for each blog post and even went back to some to make sure that I was proud of the work. None of them really looked the same. You can see the progression of my work from the first blog post to the last. I definitely have progressed in digital storytelling. Isn’t that the purpose of this class? Then my creative works I did such as my mmm.page, my music mashup, and my website are great. The only thing I would say for myself is that I could have participated more in class and been more interactive in all the blog posts.

My favorite part of this semester in this class was hands down making my own website in something I am passionate about, Music. My website is for people to share music together. I personally share my favorite songs of the month, the concerts I go to, and my hot takes. Let me give you a tour. Come along 🙂

Creating this website was not as hard as I originally thought. Professor guided us well with his tutorial videos on setting up our domain name, starting to build our website, and adding plugins. The only frustrations I really had were picking a template to choose from. they over 4,000 options to pick from. I searched for hours looking for the right one. I was obsessed with building my website because I was so excited. Building a website is no small task it involves a lot of work if you want it to be what you envisioned. Nonetheless, I love how it turned out 🙂

Now the question is will I keep this website up? 🤨🧐🤔

I REALLY want to keep up this website, I see great potential in it. The only thing that is would be holding me back from maintaining this website is if it actually grows a community that people would participate in. If I wasn’t able to get people to visit the website there wouldn’t be any point. My content may be better on social media platforms like TikTok or Instagram. Maybe I can grow an audience there and then direct them to my website. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Customizing the website so far has been a little annoying because sometimes I can’t get the page to look as I want it to. I wanted my site icon to be super minimal, so I went with Chill

As for my content, my plan is to create a lifestyle type of blog where I would be posting about my lifestyle and food in my main blog. I also created a category for family, where I would post personal photos for my friends and family to be able to see. I want the coverage to be a collage of everything that makes me, me.

The amount of work people have put into their websites is really mind boggling. There’s a lot of new things I learned about my fellow classmates even though I have never seen them in person or talked with them. A lot of them shared what they liked as well as the hobbies they have. These are some of my favorite websites from my classmates.

I really liked Nader’s website because of the beautiful photography it shows as well as the bright color background which was nice to look at. It was also nice to see that Nader was very passionate about what he wanted to show and shows a really big interest in photography. The website is also all in your face, so it is very unique in my opinion.

Another website which I really liked was Ericka’s. I recently got a kitten so seeing her cute animals was really something I enjoyed. I love the pictures of her animals and the little description that she provided. I would love to see more pictures!! I also liked that she talks about her plant collection, while I am not that interested in it, my mom seems to know everything about them. She even has her own garden, so Erika’s post reminded me of that. I did end up showing the picture of the plants to my mom.         What a CUTIE!

I really enjoyed looking at all the websites. Professor Ryan’s website is very nice I love the art that we are opened to. Gives me an album cover feel for a Daft Punk Album. 

So I chose the domain name chilliang as my domain name because it sounds like it could be the designation of where I post everything. I will likely have a private tab for friends and family to who I have to give access. But other areas where I could share my experience with such as food, travel, and my past encounters with trauma.  MY BABY

After taking some time to think about what kind of domain names I would want it became apparent I don’t really know myself that well. At first, I had come up with ChilLiang, which has chilling and my last name in it. This would be where I would post about my experiences with friends and family. 

I had also come up with Ginye, which sounds like a genie. I took my father’s first name and my mom’s last name to make it.  I would like to keep this as a photo book for my family and as a place to store our memories so that my kids or my grandkids could forever be able to see my parents.

I had come up with Williang, which almost sounds like willing. It is a combination of Will and Liang, I think that this could be a personal blog site, where I could post about my experiences with trauma, and other various experiences to share with people going through similar things.

Another domain name I had come up with would be W&SNTF, which would be an abbreviation for William and Sharon never to be forgotten. Sharon is obviously my significant other, and as cliche and cheesy as it may be. I do think that it is a good name. I have spent a good part of my life with my significant other and I think that I would be able to post pictures of our adventures, and of course our problems. I think that throughout this era of technology, it lacks authenticity and genuineness that makes everything so plain and bland.

At this point, I honestly gave up with thinking up a meaningful domain name as that was really what I could think of. However, after eating dinner I had come up with WilliamsFNF, which would be Williams Friends and Family, another place to have pictures and etc.

After making the mmm page, I found it was very easy to get distracted and add as many gifs, pictures, etc to the page. I found that it was very easy to use the tools and there was a guide when you first created the website. I followed the template and added my email, my Twitter, and my Instagram tags. I figured I should add some personality, and add my twist and take on the page. This website that I created was honestly my very first experience with working with a website.

DS 106 has been one of the less exciting projects I have completed for CT 101 so far. It could seem easy, but it is definitely challenging, especially when scrolling through all the options available on the respitory. Honestly, it took me a few hours going through all the projects posted on DS 106 website, as well as reading through them to see what looks engaging.

I ended up with a writing assignment nonconformity

Throughout high school, at an impressionable age, it is easy to follow the wrong people. You do not really get to know how someone truly is until they mature, and you could find their true colors. I luckily stopped hanging out with my older friends, as they moved on to a life full of partying and taking whatever drugs they can. I remember feeling left out when I had to work and they were out partying. For my career and my future, I think working hard and hopefully having a good mentality will lead me towards a bright future.

I honestly, do not know what kind of career path I want to commit to, therefore, I tried taking personality and career tests, and they always lead me to work alone or a startup business. But only time will tell.

 

 

In my opinion, memes are a form of art. Art is very vague and broad. It could quite literally be anything. Memes are quite literally everything. Therefore Meme Equals Art. 

All jokes aside, I do think that memes are a form of art because people are able to express themselves with a simple picture. Sometimes Art can be abstract and have a different meaning viewed by different people. For example, there have been times where I have been sent memes by my friends and I didn’t quite understand it. However, I do think that memes could be a form of art depending on the viewer. According to the video it stated, “ to evoke in oneself a feeling one has once experienced and having it evoked in oneself, then by means of movements, lines, colors, or sounds to transmit that feeling so that others experience the same feeling.” this elaborates the point that art is very broad and can be applied to almost anything.

I think that there are different forms of art whether that is through painting on a canvas, sculpting a sculpture, and various forms of creation including memes. While some people would not like to think of memes as art, it is certainly a form of creativity that allows people to share a similar experience and connect with others who have experienced something similar. 

My first day of CT101 was interesting. I personally thought that the class was going to be the same but slightly different from my other CT courses. When discussing the syllabus, it was pretty straightforward and I figured I was going to be able to use this course as a creative outlet. CT101 is significantly more appealing compared to my other courses. I feel like the majority of the other courses that I have taken were me cramming knowledge into my brain and as quickly as possible. Some potentials of this class are that students are able to express themselves freely. And the Professor makes it obvious that he cares for his students and does not want them to see this as a chore, rather a learning experience and to let us be more open to our peers
