The Final One

Alright, so boom this is the final assignment/ blog post for this class and my final assignment for York College in general. What better way to end off than a blog post for CT101.

This class has taught me a lot of new skills and tools I can use. From simple and fun things such as making my own memes and gifs to more complex things  but still fun things such as making my own website and taking panoramic photos. I knew I would love this class when one of our first assignments was to post gifs and use those gifs to tell a story of how our first day of class went. Also learning hyperlinks has been such a useful tool to just insert information and links whenever you want.

Assignment 4 taught me you can do storytelling however you want through your own designs like I did, through audio, pictures, videos, writing, animations however you want to express yourself. Now one of my favorite assignments to do was assignment 11 taking panoramic photos is a skill i feel like I will use quite often in the future when I am out and want to take a dope picture or while at work and want to capture the entire event setup in one shot which is something I have always struggled to do when taking pictures of the hall. I feel like I can never capture the full picture but now I can so this skill will be very useful for that. Now the second half of the semester is where we focused on making our websites and the whole process was very exciting while confusing at times. Before I get into that though I would like to discuss my grade. Now I will not lie, I do not think I deserve a high grade for this course. At best I deserve a C. While I put 100% into all the work I did and applied all the tools we learned in class the majority of those assignments were late and I take full accountability for that.

But lets get back to the main program. My plans after graduating is to continue gaining experience in event planning for a bit and then start my own business focusing on that. That is where I got the idea for what I want my website to be. At first I wanted my website to be a layout of everything my business will offer with pictures, services and prices but I do not have enough resources and experience for that yet. But in the future  i will definitely like to update my website once I am ready to move forward with my business. So instead I wanted to showcase something I take pride in and that is setting up events Here is my website.

Let me give you guys a tour. This is my home page with the slogan “If You Can Imagine It We Can Make It Happen”. A menu with the following access to pages home, about, photography, and contact and some of my favorite setups recently at the banquet hall. On the home screen itself you can find my latest blog of the most recent event my team and I decorated and it will change with every new event that we decorate. I walk you through how we set up for a wedding reception in this blog and the final results.

If you scroll to the bottom of the page you can find widgets in place that tells you about the website and where to find the banquet hall where these pictures were taken if you ever want to book an event.

If you click photography it will take you to the page where I showcase multiple event setups for different events. For future reference I will like to include the type of event, and info about it the day off so it has more information. But I hope you guys enjoy some nice setups, feedback would be appreciated and the last thing would be how to contact me and on that page I provide my email. But that’s a wrap. I really enjoyed this class, thank you Professor Seslow for everything you have taught me, one of the best professors at York. Andres signing out.

[1] What I Enjoy on the Internet

What makes me happy on the internet?

The internet is a like a big playground that we all can explore in. Honestly I find my enjoyment on the internet just scrolling though video game subreddits and scrolling through artwork that people share on twitter and tumblr.

This week I found myself binging Uncle Roger videos on Youtube. Uncle Roger is a character by a Malaysian comedian named Nigel Ng. He makes reaction videos on people’s cooking and he really liked to grill Jamie Oliver (also known as Jamie Olive-oil) for his cooking as he doesn’t use native ingredients or cooks in a way that isn’t very acceptable to Uncle Roger.

[5] M’s Three Ms

Hiya there lurkers its me again. If I had the time, patience or the means I’d probably make a audio theme song for these posts.

Using the mmm web browser page for me personally was difficult. Why? Cause my mind imploded with the amount of freedom I had! When I have too much creative freedom I kinda end up shutting down and not doing anything at all. (Its pretty bad I know) Its all just me overthinking is all.

However, I decided to just experiment with the tools as I tried to calm my brain down on what I wanted to do. The site is very easy to use and it was pretty fun messing with the shaped, stickers and colors.

After struggling, I just decided to post one of my comforts: puppies. It isn’t much, but I think puppies soothes the soul, and relieves all my tension. So I thought why not! I am totally sure that no one else thought to just post puppies. My page is simple but I think it looks nice.

I found this assignment interesting cause despite my stress and struggle to actually find a good way to make a page, I still ended up being creative and intuitive somehow. Even if it was out of desperation.

Fun fact: The dot over the letter I is called a title. Thats it.

[3] Memes is Art

Hello there scrollers and lurkers, I am back again.

When I first read the question ‘Áre memes art?’ my immediate thought was duh! Of course, they are! Memes is a creative way to express emotion or send a message. But then again there are probably some art purists out there that will argue with me that memes isn’t actually art cause it isn’t done by a paintbrush or something. To me generally memes is just another artform that is very easy to create and use and share with others. It doesn’t require much to create a meme (unless you have like.. no internet somehow, I guess) and it can be done by anyone.

I personally don’t use memes much, but I like to look at them. I usually just use gifs to joke around or express how I am feeling. Most memes I use are small joke ones that I share with my friends or little posts I find online that are anime or gaming related. However, I do see some people do chain memes in forums or discord to have a conversation instead of actual words. They probably have a gallery full of memes just for that.

Memes can be used to tell a story. Depending on the format one image can be used to illustrate a scenario or what the person making the meme is trying to say.

Lastly, here’s a fun fact for you reader. Avocado is a fruit. Yep. Those gross green things is a fruit. People can put guac on nachos but have the audacity to cry about pineapples on pizza? The hypocrisy!

[Final] The End Of The Line

Here we are readers and lurkers, you read the title, you all know what we gotta do. It’s the last one. The final post. Time to lay it all out there.

CT 101 is a very enjoyable class when I have the time to work on assignments. I got to (re)learn how to hyperlink, make cohesive blog posts, and I got to incorporate different tools like make a meme and giphy into my posts. Honestly, Giphy and Tenor is built into most sites so I never actually went to the ACTUAL sites where I get my gifs from.. so that was cool.

Getting to design a small page on mmm was interesting to do despite my overwhelming insecurity and struggle to even put anything on the page. Maybe one day I can apply what I learned into a part of my business or whatever venture I work on in the future.

However there is setbacks, like me being unable to start my own website. Which I know is bad but I had no idea what I wanted to do, (perhaps eventually I’ll start one if the code doesn’t expire. If not I’d still want to do it and maybe edit a update or send a email.). This will definitely hurt my grade and I acknowledge that I probably will get (hopefully) a C-/D for this course. Its unfortunate but I deserve it for my negligence.

Overall, I really enjoyed this class and reading everyone’s posts, and I thank the professor for sharing his knowledge and insight when it comes to digital storytelling. (Some of the stuff he does online also looks nice from what I glanced at). Despite my terrible procrastinating I do enjoy the work I am doing. And I think that the important thing.

One last fun fact cause I can: Art was an Olympic sport once upon a time. If it still was in 2022 I bet there would be nothing but Will Smith-Chris Rock slap memes.

Assignment 12

A fellow classmate’s website that caught my eye was Manpreet Singh’s website http://videogknow.com/ As a person that likes to play video games during my free time I resonate with this website and the coverage of video games that I have played before. I like the theme of the background black and hot pink. I only have one critique and that would be it is difficult to read the text because the colors do not go together like so

But his review’s were a fun read and I like how he had more info for each video game if you want to read further. My favorite review was the one of Nba 2k22 because that is a game I play. Great stuff!

Another website I liked was Fatema’s website http://love2explore.net/ I like to travel as well so seeing the pictures posted and reading your travel blogs was a fun read. After reading her blog posts I think somewhere I would like to travel to is the grand canyon. The website is really well formatted great job!

Assignment 10

Dear Readers of the Internet-Welcome

I just published a new blog post here on my website http://cincoestrellaseventos.com/ I would greatly appreciate it if you guys would take the time to check it out and read it and hopefully like the most recent event my coworkers and I set up. Thank you muchas gracias. Here is a preview

CT101 Final Blog Post & Course Completion Information

The race is not for the swift!

I must say this was a journey. I enjoy every moment of this class and really get to see how creative I am and also communicating with other classmates when we meet in person. This class has built me into a well-rounded student and have opened my mind to different technique that can last for a lifetime. I will apply my new skills into the world by helping people with business website from setting up to giving them ideas on content that will grab any consumer attention. Also, I am looking forward in the future to open my own business so this will be beneficial to me as well.

Most definitely, I feel a lot of joy blogging Jamaican cuisines and showing all the other delicious food we have in our culture that is not here in America. Even though I will be busy in the summer with work, I will drop by couple times in the week to at least blog and show image of what I prepare for dinner or any restaurants I visit.

I am so proud of myself, and I know I could have done even better but I am pleased and grateful for what I have now. I deserve a B+ to a A- for this class only because I did not comment on all my classmates blog post. I am hoping for the best. Thank you professor Seslow for everything. You are a great Professor!

Final Farewell

This semester has been nothing short of amazing, truly. After going to that first day of class, I’ve looked forward to every Tuesday since to see what cool new skill we’d be learning that week.

What I enjoyed most about this class is the creative freedom that we were allowed on every assignment. Each task we were given was so simple but could be interpreted and completed in many different ways, which was also really fun.

I think I earned a grade A/B because I completed each assignment that we were given and I commented on posts for the majority of the semester, coming on to the end I know I could’ve done better with commenting which is why I think I could receive a B.

Assignment 1: What is Making You Happy on the Internet?

ME TO YOUTUBE WHEN MY FAVORITE CREATORS POST

I wrote about my favorite places on the internet, specifically YouTube, and shared some of my favorite content creators on there.

Assignment 2: Making our first GIF

MY FAVORITE GIF I’VE MADE

Assignment 3: Should Memes Be Considered Art?

FIRST MEME I EVER MADE

Assignment 4: DS106 Assignment

FACTOR FINDER WEBSITE I CREATED

Assignment 5: Digital Art & Creative Immediacy

WEBPAGE DESIGN WITH MMMPAGE

Assignments 2-5 were where our creativity was really tested. I learned how to make memes and gifs using sites like Giphy, Imgur, Makeameme, dabbled in web design with mmmpage and even created a website for our DS106 assignment. These were loads of fun to complete because there really were no limits on what we could create.

Assignment 6: Mid-Semester Reflection

The Mid-Semester review was similar to this one, just reflecting on the first 6/7 weeks of the course.

Assignment 7: Picking a domain name

Assignment 8: Registering my domain name

Assignment 9: Getting To Know WordPress

Assignment 10: First Website Post

HOME PAGE

The journey of creating my very own website: brownecorner.com was one with a few bumps in the road. It took me a while to actually figure out what I wanted my website to be about and after that was the struggle of finding an available domain name. After this, registering my domain name and setting up the website itself with Reclaim Hosting and WordPress was smooth sailing. Designing the site was my favorite part because I could make it look exactly how I envisioned it.

Assignment 11: Panoramas and Storytelling

This assignment was fun, especially going through the process and coming up with ideas first, in person with the class. When the time came to take the panoramas on my own however, it was a bit more difficult.

Assignment 12: Surfing The Web

This was probably one of the easiest assignments of the semester, because we had basically been doing this the entire time. It was really exciting to explore everyone’s websites and see what they were able to come up with.

I have some pretty cool ideas that I would like to explore for the remainder of the time I do have the domain, especially during the summer. There really is no limit to what I can try when it comes to having my own website, I just really hope I do maintain the site while I have it, because why not?

These following 3 plus the home page are the only pages I have so far, however I do have 2 posts up on my website already. One of them is categorized as photography because it is mostly made up of photos.

A huge part of the class was giving feedback on others’ posts, I enjoyed reading and receiving everyone’s comments just as much I enjoyed reading your posts every week. You guys are extremely talented and I’m glad I got to witness some of it.

This course on its own is a pretty cool one but I think having Professor Seslow as our teacher made it even better. Whether it was making a joke or letting us know that he’s here to support us, the experience was infinitely better because of him.

The Grand Finale – Final Blog Post

Well Here We Are

I Learned So Much More Than I Expected..

We’ve finally arrived to the end of the semester. In terms of CT101, it really has been a fun ride on the way here. I’ve learned so much since the beginning of the semester and look forward to using what I’ve learned in my internet ventures to come. I learned how to make my own memes via giphy, create blogs utilizing WordPress, create expressive internet works via mmm.page and began to write a lot more creatively. Out of everything we learned, I believe that’s one of the things I’ve noticed I have gotten better at. Comparing my first entry into cuny commons up to now, I realized that the way I would type was a bit robotic. By the end of this semester I definitely became more “loose” and started to let my own voice/humor translate through my posts. I would personally like to thank Professor Seslow for such an amazing semester. I took on more classes than usual and along with also working, I was worried about how that’ll effect my studies. Thankfully it couldn’t have gone any better and I believe it’s the way that the professor formats his class that was incredibly helpful. Now, with that being said, let’s get on with the recap!

It’s Recap Time!

So in total we had about 12 assignments excluding this final blog post:

Assignment #1

This assignment was titled Things That Make Me Happy On The Internet. This was a nice intro/icebreaker assignment that really helped introduce me to the blogging process and starting to put my voice out on the internet. To top it off, what better way to do so than by talking about some of our favorite things to do on the internet.

Assignment #2

With this assignment, we were tasked with creating our first memes. This is probably one of my more favorite assignments of this semester as it allowed me to participate in one of my favorite internet mediums, memes! I was pretty surprised at how easy it was to go about creating our own gifs/memes. The funniest part was that I always knew about the website giphy but I had no idea I could actually use it to make memes. Thinking about it it’s pretty ironic how that happened.

assignment #3

For this assignment we were asked the question if memes could be considered a form of art. To this question I answered absolutely! My reasoning was more on a technical level about how art is purely subject and it is up to the viewer if by their standards, something can be considered art. Overall it was an interesting topic to think about since I’ve never once wondered if memes can be considered an art form.

assignment #4

In this assignment, we were tasked with choosing two projects from the DS106 Repository and complete them. The two I went with were:

Web Assignment: Guess The Story

AnimatedGIF Assignment: TV Show GIFS

The web assignment, I was tasked with taking four gifs and posting them in order to describe an internet folklore and have the viewer guess what that folklore is. SPOILER WARNING, the folklore I was trying to describe was none other than Slender Man. With the animatedGIF assignment, I was tasked with taking my favorite TV show and creating 4-6 gifs utilizing scenes from the show. My favorite show of all time has to be Mr.Robot so that is what I used for this assignment.

Assignment #5

This is the assignment I was able to try out the website mmm.page and got to stretch some of my creative muscles. Around the time I started doing this assignment, it was the same time that I was binging all of the Star Wars mainline movies with my significant other (she never saw any of the Star Wars movies) and figured that it was the best opportunity to create a Star Wars themed mmm.page. Along with this assignment, we also had to define the meanings of immediacy, creativity, and intuition.

Assignment #6

This was our sort of midterm assignment where we were tasked to go back and reflect on our assignments up until that point. Kind of like how we’re doing now. It was to, at the time, think back and realize how much I’ve really come to learn so far. Pretty cool to come to that realization.

Assignment #7

For this assignment, we had to make a list of at least 5 domain names and select one to be our official website domain. I actually found this to be pretty challenging as I’m not very good at coming up with names.

assignment #8

For this assignment, we had to choose a domain name out of our list and actually start to get our websites up and running. Out of my list of names I gravitated more toward programmersblock.com. Thankfully it was a pretty straightforward process to since the name I wanted was eligible on the first try!

Assignment #9

With this assignment came the biggest learning curb of this class. We had to learn how to use the customization tools within WordPress in order to actually make our website’s interface. I’ve decided to base my website around helping entry level programmers combat imposter’s syndrome by allowing them to post their code for review. Thankfully, with the help of professor’s lecture tutorials and YouTube, I was able to at least get the landing page of my website to look pretty presentable.

assignment #10

I further customized my website by downloading other third party themes/plug-ins and was able to use a pretty clean design on my “about” page. From there, I was able to change around the new template and add my own wording, pictures, and even wrote up a summary as to why I started this website and what’s its purpose.

assignment #11

In class we were shown by the professor what can be done creatively with the panoramic setting on our phones. The class broke into two groups and created different scenes by using this technique. The scene I created was the finals week process. A sort of phase by phase process that I personally go through when preparing for the end of a semester. This was a pretty fun assignment to do overall since I was able to test out what was possible with the panoramic setting.

assignment #12

So this assignment was actually broken up in two parts. The first being to share my website url on in the comment section, programmerblock.com. The second part was to explore my classmate’s webpages. They all came out amazing! The one that really caught my attention was the webpage aquicklaugh.com. I mean come on, it’s practically a meme museum!

Now…About Grades

Now that I’ve about wrapped up everything, of course, like any student the grade I’m hoping for is at least an A.  However, since I do feel as if the assignments I handed in are of good substance,  I wouldn’t be disappointed with a B/B+. The time at which I handed everything is no one’s fault but my own. Crossing my fingers for the best outcome!

Introducing My Completed Website

I have to say that I’m really happy with the final product. The inclusion of the third party theme Astra, and then the third party plug-in Elementor, definitely made the process so much easier. And now, the time has come to present programmersblock.com.

Biting Nails Reaction GIF by SpongeBob SquarePants

THE END IS NEARRRR. Throughout this course, I’ve learned a ton of things. Such as building my own website, using wordpress the correct way because during the past I was really struggling with it. I believe I’ve earned a good amount of credit grades for this class for my assignments for the effort I put it.

Confused Kid Cudi GIF by Apple Music

What did I enjoy you ask? Well to start off the professor is amazing and very caring with the work. I enjoyed making the memes and gifs and finding out that there are two different ways to say “jis or gifs.” The tutorial videos were very helpful and fluently understanding. Assignments are very straight forward, it was not a challenge at all, it’s all about your creativity and how much fun you want to put in.

Panorama mode allows you to capture more of the scene by combining images to create a panoramic photo. Taking these images during class was a fun learning experience and it’s something that I should have learned a long time ago.  Below is a prime example of the fun activity done in class.

Assignment #12 – Exploring URLs

What Do You Meme

While looking through my classmate’s websites (all amazing), I would have to say the one that stuck out to me the most would have to be Stella’s, aquicklaugh.com. I would definitely say that it’s because I’m biased when it comes to memes/gifs. Since I could remember, memes have always been apart of my internet experiences so it was cool to see that one of my classmates decide to create  a sort of meme/gif museum.

It was a pretty nice to go through the website and experience the “oh I remember that one!” moments. Makes me think how far along memes in general have come. From the early days of troll/lol faces, to reactionary gifs, and now a whole internet culture that surrounds them. The website as a whole is very well thought out and has a very clean interface.

Also, the way the site is formatted in terms of sectioning specific memes under certain topics is also a really nice touch. My favorite section definitely would have to be the “Lore of The Memes ” one. Overall, it is a very fun website to visit and I can definitely see why it is so popular amongst the other students!
