Assignment #4: DS106

After browsing through the DS106 Assignment Repository, I finally decided on 2 projects that I want to try my hands on.

The projects I’ve chosen are “City Graphic Poster” by Emma Cate Neves and “Create A Silly Movie Poster” by Richard Barnes. Both projects struck my interest in tackling a unique spin on Graphic Design.

Out of the 2 projects, I’m gonna work on the city poster. Looking at the movie poster project, it feels like something that I can do due to the simplicity of it. It seems like you can simply Photoshop random elements to a famous movie poster. While with the city poster, I feel challenged to push my creativity at a professional level.

For the “City Graphic Poster Assignment,” the goal is to take an existing photograph of any kind of infrastructure and turn it into a whimsical poster by the use of your creative edits.

Here’s how I did it!

I first got a pic I took, myself. It’s from my Photo II class last semester. I sifted through a bunch of photos until I reached one, I wanted to work on. Instead if using Photoshop, I used ClipStudioPaint, instead. It works just as good! I first started by importing the original photo.

I then used the lasso tool as much as I on the sky b/c that was my focus. I wanted to make a dream-like world where the sky was more of a pinkish purple than a regular blue. After lassoing the parts I needed, I made a layer above the image and set the layer to Add (Glow) I also applied this technique to the water.

My next obstacle was the choppy edges, due to the wheat. I wasn’t going to lasso all around the wheat, because it would take me too much time. So I then decided to add fog to play into the dream-like world. I made another layer above everything, used white and the airbrush, and set the layer to Vivid light to cover up the hard edges. I also applied it to the buildings to soften the edges due to bright light.

I almost forgot that this needed to be a poster, so I used the rectangle selection tool to crop out which section I wanted to use as the poster.

Next, made another layer above everything, used the Calbri font and typed out NEW YORK to the size and color I wanted. I then used the magic want tool to make a selection. I lastly used the airbrush tool to lightly erase the lettering to my liking. And that’s how we got to the final product.

In the end, I like ho this turned out. I am not used to doing re-touch work at all. My forte is more on the character illustration side. However, doing this assignment made me realize how much more I’m capable of when I put my mind to it.

I should definitely be doing more of these types of projects. It’s important for me to expand repertoire in my craft. It wasn’t really a difficult process because I am very used to using the tools in ClipStudioPaint/Photoshop. It’s more so I’ not used to using the tools in the way I did for this assignment. This experience will help me break out of that shell to do more of these projects!

Assignment #3: MEMES & ME

Are le Memes art? I would definitely say that they are!

It’s been a long debate on the internet, but memes are definitely a form of art. Memes are good for art because they are another form of storytelling. They are created by existing media and is transformative to communicate a message. This is the core of storytelling. These web sources agree that memes are art.

But despite that, others will vehemently disagree.

If memes are just simply a form of self-expression, then that in of itself constitutes art. Why would there be a separation of the definition just because you may or may not like it? Trying to discredit memes seems like gatekeeping art to suite your own preferences

Here are some of my favorite memes. This could be applied here similar to the cat gif I just used. It’s of a super nerd that is supposed to represent a pompous, know-it-all that misspells the word “actually” as “ackchyually.” This is used to poke fun of a person that tries to play the contrarian to an embarrassing degree. This meme is both hilarious and appropriate for this situation.

Another would be the recently popular “surprised Pikachu” meme. This is used to express complete shock in any situation, kinda like this one here.

Another favorite meme of mine would be the “Well yes, but actually no” meme. It is usesd in a situation whereif you’re stating something a fact that’s somewhat true, but mostly false.

Assignment #2: My Reaction Gifs

My first day of CT101 was quite interesting. It was reassuring that my professor was a nice, relatable, and funny person. I can tell how genuine Professor Seslow was. It made me really excited to come to his classes to hear all the hardy jokes he would tell every time.

I was quite surprised to hear about the creative freedom we were given in professor Seslow’s CT101 class. As an art major, it was already common to have creative freedom, but this class is on another level. This is the first class in my life where we can use memes in our assignments. After fully registering this info, my mind was completely blown.

I absolutely love the vibes in this class, especially from the professor. The atmosphere is very calming, the other students seem very nice.

Compared to my other classes where I had to primarily work with a pen, paper, book, etc, I really like that all the work is done on a computer. Having all the work be done digitally, makes all the information and workload easily accessible.

Moving forward, I’m really excited to learn how to use the tools that brought us famous memes. I’ve always wondered about the types of media and the process of creating memes and gifs. I hope to one day utilize these skills to further increase my repertoire of artistic and comedic skills. I want to increase my comedic potential because I want to start a YouTube channel in the future that puts a smile on everyone’s faces.

Assignment #1: Internet Happiness

When I think of internet happiness, I think of completely unwinding and watching a bunch of videos. This feeling is similar to that of being wrapped up in a warm blanket during winter, in front of a fireplace, enjoying a cup of hot chocolate. Just an unbelieve cozy feeling.

Even when I was really young, I spent most of the time on the internet watching YouTube videos. At first it was a past time became a habit. Especially after the repercussions of the pandemic, browsing YouTube divulged into a lifestyle. It’s insane how the internet is embedded in our lives right now. I remember when other medias such as Twitter and Google shut down temporarily without warning. Mass hysteria ensued at minimum a national level.

Happiness on the internet definitely hit an all-time high when those medias suddenly stopped working. It really puts into perspective how essential technology is in our daily lives and has become part of our identities. Even though the internet has brought us much happiness, we should definitely try to detach ourselves incase another event like that happens again.

Assignment#8 Setting up camp on Reclaim

To start I am really liking how this feels as of right now

I have made websites when I was younger but I feel like they have never been as in-depth as the potential I have from here.

So far I had to make sure I had good themes as customization and uniqueness are very important to me.

I’m excited to really tinker with this hosting site and ideally come up with an actually great website I can use even after this class.

It was a little confusing at first as I sadly missed a few classes because of life outside of school which I really didn’t want to happen as I actually enjoy this class but I do hope to have everything still work out.

As of about 3pm later today… I am a whole college graduate. An Adult. The End of my childhood.

This college journey has been an ABSOLUTE rollercoaster, But this class was a shelter through the storm. It’s so wonderful to come to CT101 because it is safe space.

This was never a class I hated to come to because you would always get poured into even if it had nothing to do with tech. Prof. Ryan has created a place where us college students get to express ourselves and flourish in our creativity no mater what .

I learned that I love to blog with this class. I used to think I was a terrible writer but I learned to love my writing voice in CT101. I usually shy away from creative writing but blogging to me is like keeping a journal.

My writing voice is in my blogs is basically putting my personality to words.

Because of my new found love for blogging, I plan on keeping my website and developing it more. franceluce.com will be all things me and my Faith walk. I hope for it to be a space of influence and inspiration for those who desire a relationship with God.

As much as I would want an A+, I feeel like I deserve a B+ at best. I definitely dropped the ball these past couple of weeks and I haven’t been my putting my best foot forward. I really wished my semester didn’t end on the note that it did but life.

Final Post

This is my final post. I have had a lot of fun and learned a lot.

My website follows a black and white theme.

Overall I found it a bit difficult to figure out. I was just trying to use the default wordpress template until I realized I needed a plugin. So I downloaded the Custom Layouts Plugin.

This made it easier to customize my website.

I wanted my website to have a bit if an informative feel. Concerning design and where to get things from.

Thought I have had plenty of practice I want to get more familiar with WordPress and all of the different elements. In this class I have come a long way from never having posted a blog post to posting an official blog post. I am very grateful for the journey. Here is my previous work–>

And then there is this post. A final reflection. For this class I think I have gotten a B. For a portion of this class I was a bit behind on blog posts. But I did eventually get up to date. Concerning my website I honestly do not know what I will do with it. I am a little tempted to continue posting blogs on interior design. I will make sure to utilize all of the knowledge I have learned in this class.

Now that’s a wrap!

We have achieved so much this semester. I’d say this is perhaps the best. While there was so much to learn, I can’t contain it, I’m happy that I was a part of CT101.

From Blog Writing to Website Building, we did ALOT! Keep reading to see everything I worked on in this class.

I liked the fact that the class was very hands–on and interactive. It was a great way to learn how to use technology to tell stories engagingly and creatively. Our instructor was very knowledgeable and always willing to help if we had any questions or needed assistance. The class was also very fun , and I enjoyed all the activities we did.

I would definitely recommend this digital storytelling class. It provides an excellent introduction to the basics of digital storytelling and offers plenty of hands–on experience with the software used to create digital stories.

Building this website wasn’t bad at all. However, it was draining. Very draining. Setting up the hosting was the issue, but building the website wasn’t bad once it started to work There were times I couldn’t access it due to server issues. However, those were resolved.

Overall, I do think I’ve maintained an A+! I deserve an A+ because I have worked hard and put in the effort required to succeed. I have demonstrated knowledge, dedication, and commitment to the CT101 and have shown that I can apply the concepts I have learned to real–world situations. I have also shown an aptitude for writing and creativity, essential skills for success in any field.

I am a journalism major. I believe that what has been taught to me thus far can be a major asset in my field. After all, journalism has many arteries.

During registration for this semester, I was required to select an elective course. Upon reading the detailed information pertaining to this class, I decided to jump into the deep side of the pool knowing that I could not swim at all. In other words, I was not well versed in the computer world nor its capabilities and it’s use of creativity.

I came to find that it wasn’t as scary as I thought. It actually was quite wonderful and exciting. The anticipation of understanding and completing the assignment was nerve racking. To my complete surprise, the assignment itself was uplifting. But isn’t that the way life works?

I really enjoyed the class. It was much different than any other class that I have ever taken. Professor Seslow is kind, patient, and nurturing.

At this point of my digital story-telling learning process, I have decided that this class is not only massive kool, but very enlightening. The professor asked us to decide if internet memes should be considered a form of art work? I believe that they are. Not that long ago, graffiti was considered a public nuisance and the defaming of property.

Now it is a commodity because it is considered a piece of art.

Just as graffiti has come to be recognized as a work of art, a piece of

expression, so too has memes. Memes are nothing more than a consolidated story of feelings.

So in retrospect, memes aren’t going anywhere. As a matter of fact, they have been a part of art for years. The only twist is that it is now digital. Ain’t that a kick in the head?

And just like any other form of communication, memes can be used for good or bad. Let’s stay focused on the good shall we?

Blog #4 I have yet to master. I mean like whoa

The website DS106 is kinda advanced for my blood. It’s undeniable that I’m glad that it has been introduced to me; however, this project will take me some time to fully comprehend and master. It is indeed a very creative and useful website that allows creativity to free fall. Niagara Falls comes to mind when I think about this website.

Look how something that is one in the same take on different lives of its own. This is so remarkable and totally amazing. I find its waterfall to be one of the most greatest arts and gifts to this world.

Now I’m not saying that Reddit, Daily Create, or Photoshop Battle is as lovely and majestic as the waterfall, but it is does come close to its wonderment.

So in essence, this website is one of the projects that will benefit and contribute to my creative abilities of building and expression of my artistic creations and thoughts!

Even though this semester has come to an end, what has been taught to me has just been given birth and is ready to soar like the mighty eagle.

This blog surrounds “Digital Art Making Immediacy,” and the introduction of the mmm.page

This website opens up a world of not only creativity, but also it allows you to use your intuition and comply with immediacy. I must admit that this is a clever and unique combination. It allows personal intimacy that is attached to your own web browser. I found that to be ummmmm different. It’s not quite a website, but it is not that far removed.

This brain with all of its colors and electrodes, helps to describe the brain of all persons working on this particular assignment. Isn’t it amazingly and awesomely magnificent? What another fine work of art. Can you imagine that this is what the human brain looks like and how it behaves with positive stimulation?

Now if this is not a visual metaphor, than I don’t what is.

The use of this web browser has shown me, and has made me very aware of the skills afforded to a person that can be applied to their fullest potential. I mean just stop and really observe all of the skills, techniques and tools that a square technical machine can bring.

At this point in time, I am at mid-semester. I am having a ball jumping in the deep end of the pool. It is deep and invigorating. Many of my fears have disappeared even though I still have a long way to go. I’m doing pretty well in class CT101.

I’ve learned about memes, gifs, hyperlinks, screenshots, and web design. I have mastered the use of the first four. I’m still working on my comfortability of the mmm.page, and DS106. They are very challenging platforms for me. I’m sure that many folks have mastered them and are having a blast!

Do you see how well that I’m doing with hyperlinks and memes? I find them to be so informative and creative all at the same time. These are the new skills that I have developed, cultivated, and displayed regularly in my weekly posts. I am really enjoying the use of them for creative speech.

As the weeks go by, I can see the expansion of my work. My posts are getting not only longer, but they have more meat, more substance. I am stretching and flexing .

Everything that I have been taught thus far has been new to me. This course has enlightened me about new roads, highways, and byways!

Isn’t it amazing how the internet and roads share the same qualities? They both bring a person to a new desired destination.

For Blog #7, I had to choose a Domain name for my website.

Picking the appropriate domain name for a website, is easier said than done. It’s just as important as naming your baby. Actually it is your baby!

Just like all new mothers, I am still doing my best to get the hang of things. It’s all so exciting and brand new. Just as mothers grow with their babies, it remains the same of the growth with a website. Everyday there are new things developing and changing.

Registering my domain name with Reclaim Hosting was the objective for Blog # 8

Registering my Domain Name for my new website was like a roller coaster ride. It has many loops and turns, ins and outs, plug-ins and options. I found it to be a fascinating experience and quite a ride.

The ride was exciting; but more importantly, the transition was as smooth as silk.

Assignment # 9/Word Press Customizing was a BIG OHHHH NOOOO

I cannot believe how far I have come, only to have the door slammed in my face.

Due to some type of firewall wi-fi protection glitch, we were not allowed access to our website while we were on campus. Even though Professor Seslow provides supported recorded tutorials that are a big help and at our disposal, I grasp information quicker following along in a classroom setting.

So, I need to make it clear that there was no fault on Professor Seslows behalf. As I mentioned earlier, he is an exceptional teacher with many student building talents. This technical situation was an on- campus IT problem that was not rectified before the end of the semester.

It is an unfortunate situation that my fellow scholars and myself were robbed of the complete learning experience. I can’t speak for anyone but myself, but I was excited to get to this point in class only to be slighted of the vital, visual, hands on experience that was planned and incorporated for the conclusion of this semester.

I’ve learned many things in CT101: website making to finding my own sense of uniqueness, using my words, as well as understanding that IT IS okay to talk about yourself. In this class, I was able to talk about my experiences in life and other classes and understand the importance of digital storytelling. I noticed that I’m very quiet in class, I usually say nothing other than smile and laugh along with Professor Seslow, but online I have so much to say, my blog post can go on and on and on.

On my website, I display my experiences in my art classes, painting, and photography, and post some of the work that I’ve done.

Website building was very hard. I was too focused on the small effects that it would do when someone would hover over the main menu, I was too focused on the colors that I used and how everything is organized that I forgot to include more content in my website.

Some frustrations were since I missed classes, it was hard to try and understand why would my post not pop up, and why would my different pages look like this and not like that.

But I overcame it by rewatching the lecture over and over again and just by playing around with it myself and got a better understanding that way.

Assignment-10 Blog Post

For my blog post I chose to write about maximalism.

A Guide To Maximalism.

Growing up my room was a mess. It made absolutely no sense. My room was essentially the definition of clutter. In a literal sense there was not trash everywhere. However, every piece of furniture had no business coexisting together. Picture two bunk beds, one metal and one wooden, facing each other. This accompanied by a dresser of a different finish of wood than the bunkbed. A toy chest of a different shade of wood than the dresser and the bed. And finally the top bunk of each bunkbed lined with folded clothes. I have since gotten a new room, thank God. The thing is growing up I did not think much of the design of things. This was the room I shared room with my sister. We were impartial to the design and our only complaint was, “Mom, can you use your own closet”. All of the clothes made our New York room seem even smaller. Other than that we were in perfect peace with our room…. until I discovered HGTV.

From then my goal was a new room. I got my sister on board and we both agreed a minimalist room with nothing in it but a bed, a dresser and a rug was ideal. We got rid of the bunk beds and it was a fairytale for a while our voices bounced off the wall and our echos made the room feel even more spacious than it was. Once the euphoria of getting rid of the bunkbeds subsided we realized our room was too empty. And in that moment we became maximalist. Maximalism just makes a place feel lived in and homey. I do not quite know how to define maximalism in words but I can show you.

The three main components of a maximalist space are texture color and layers. These three component do not have to all be present, but at least two have to be present.

HELLO EVERYONE

It’s time for another weekly blog!

You know sometimes it’s good to look back and reflect on your old work. Just like what I’m doing today. CT101 so far is a really fun class, learning how to write a blog and it is such a fun experience. I am doing pretty well learning and improving what I am lacking on this website.

Personally I felt like I’d learn how to make a blog.. duhhhh. Writing a blog is actually relaxing since at first I was stiff and uncomfortable with how to express myself in blogging but after this class, I feel more open. Also, I learned how to use memes more effectively, yeah I could use them for humor but with CT101 I can effectively use better memes to tell a story and it became a form of art for me.

Looking back at my old work, I barely wrote when I did it wasn’t like me. it felt stiff and short. Now, it’s more in-depth and personal and more fun to look back at. With this self-reflection, I personally feel like my performance is better now compare to before taking this class. I do think that when I write for other classes I am more open to myself rather than giving bland answers just to answer. Now I talk more and am more personal.

Also, surprisingly enough I got smarter when it comes to using memes.

Yeah man, now I use my brain to use memes that my friends laugh at more since they understood the references. I feel like I got a big brain.

Even though I post a lot, I do not comment on a lot of my other classmates’ posts. I want to improve on that since I do read everyone’s post but I just forget to comment on it and all of you guys rock.

Overall, I do believe I would have an A or a B+ in this class because I’m having so much fun in this class, and reading everyone’s work is so fun too. I think I do great in this class with my work I give it 100 percent but just need to work on commenting on my classmates’ work.

Well, I think I spoke enough for today’s post here’s a random fun fact; avocados are deadly to birds. So if you know someone that owns a bird, tell them. Until next time!!!

As you know my website I talked about in my first update post how wanted to improve on it from the default settings which I did part of within the second update where I used a new interface that matches what I want to go for.

So here it is, my website!!

As I previously said I want it to be more of an art portfolio where I can show my art. My works so far consist of a series of images I’m working on, you can check the site to see yourself trust me it’s fun. The process was a bit tedious because of how perfect I wanted to be and I forgot to watch videos so I spent a long time looking around and doing things myself.

I think it was successful though. I’ve learned that it is hard to keep a website running and tweak it as well and I got humbled lol. I didn’t expect it was this hard to make a website but I love the challenge. I’ve also learned that there is always room for improvement for my sites and works and try to keep updated to cycle my works to keep them fresh for new faces because it is so fun to add new drawings and people see it and I want people to talk about my work. So being consistent is a great skill I learned in this class. I’m also trying to create a piece of commission information on my contact for those who want me to draw for them.

Overall, I had so much fun in this class it was so unique and a fresh take from blackboard and I feel that I could do more than blackboard. I learned how to write a blog which I never thought I would have so much fun in. I learned new skills on how to write better and be more expressive in my writing compare to my first post. I will definitely use these skills in my life as I want to write more blogs on my site to keep updates on my artwork and talk about my development to it.

I still think I should an A in this class, I got better with my work and I got better at interacting with my other classmates’ work as I comment more which was a big issue I talked about in the last post.

I think this is it, I had a blast with you guys, and I enjoyed seeing your works and hope you guys have successful careers thank you, professor, for being one of the coolest teachers ever. I see you guys later!!!

last ct 101 post

Farewell my fellow peers and Professor. This CT journey has been one for the books. I have never experienced a college course quite like this one.

Ive learned about memes, gifs, diy memes and gifs, mutlple gif gifs (LOL), and most interesting of all, wordpress <3.

I definitely intend to apply my newfound skills of word press to the world. Especially when i start my business. I was thinking of selling scrubs and nursing accessories. Something related to my career field. Or maybe something more of my passion.

With my website preciousprecious.com i used it as an excuse to research about nursing school, the curriculum, schools and different routes. i woukd probably keep up with my blog on my pagre since its a hobbie of mine now.

My page stars off with a few words about goals. It uses the words DREAM CREATE and SUCCEED. Then i put my mmm page which is my vision board. Following that is my social media platforms. If anyone wants to keep in touch you can follow my on Instagram, Tik tok and Pinterest.

Further down the page i speak about my idea and aspirations for this website. It basically states that id like this website to be a resource for inspired future Registered Nurses.

In this segment of the main page, i name the 4 different types of way you can be a nurse. You can be a Associate Degree Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, Registered Nurse and Registered Nurse, BSN (Bachelor of Science Nursing). Each Tab has a link for more information on the profession.

I used pink for most of the design because that is my favorite color of all time.

In this segment, I went further into the BSN route to show you how there are 3 different ways to attain it. You can attain it the traditional way which is through a LPN to RN to BSN bridge program, or go to a 4 year with a nursing school or lastly, the accelerated way which you need a degree already to attain a BSN.

In the second page, my blog, I defined a nurse while adding a reference photo.

This part i wanted to be extra and added extended nursing professions. With your masters degree you can advance to a nurse practitioner or even a certified registered nurse anesthetist.

I believe it is always great to think above and beyond. Also to dream big 🙂

This was a breather spot on my website to stop and smell the trees after all of that information. i believe all nurses are RESILIENT. Also most nurses are very family oriented in my opinion.

This painting reminds me of healthcare. The birds are the nurses rescuing a person in need.

On this page, I broke down the nursing school curriculum for the BSN 4 year program. Each class has different credit scores. Keep in mind the higher the credits, the harder the class.

Further down i explain how all nursing students go to clinicals in a hospital setting. Here you get hands on training to become a nurse.

Every student takes a series of Core Classes which are classes every student takes, Pre-requsities which are mandatory pre nursing school courses and Nursing Classes. To graduate on time you can take 4+ classes depending on the credits each class is.

The last but definitely not the last page I made was a motivation page which consists of encouraging nurse gifs and memes. I am very big on visuals when wanting to gain something. It is almost like manifesting and it keeps you inspired and motivated. That is the best thing while in school because lord knows we ALLL want to quit sometimes. In the end i always prevail and that is what you call RESILIENCE.

I believe I deserve an A+ in this class. This class has definitely challenged me throughout and i tried my best to be more friendly and talk/textative. I am rather a quiet person so I do not talk much but this class has forced me out of my comfort zone and I am grateful for that.

I’m obsessed with film and television so I would create little commentary/reaction videos of different projects and upload them onto my website. As well as all of the short films I have created in the past and will continue to create I will upload them to my website for everyone to see.

I create handmade and digital art and sell them so I will use this website to host all of my work. I will even create a shopping page so people can order directly from my site.

my inner child:

I will host the art that I created based on childhood movies and tv shows for events where I have been in charge of recreating their childhood magic.

remembrance:

I will use this site to help individuals all around the world. I create digital portraits of families who have lost a loved one in their life and add them to the picture and sell those. It has made many people I know happy that there able to have another picture with the person they loved so deeply and still do.

My Choice

The domain name I decided to choose is cotto creations because it is a way for me to incorporate everything that I’ve described in all of the other options but under one lens and keep it cohesive.
